Hugo Chavez seems to take great pleasure in tweaking George Bush’s nose. He’s repeatedly called Bush a "terrorist" and disparaged the US as a "terrorist state". Just last week, Chavez fired off another broadside saying, "The planet’s most serious danger is the government of the United States...The people of the United States are being governed by a killer, a genocidal murderer, and a madman."
He got that right.
For liberals and leftists Chavez’s fiery salvos have been a welcome respite (…)

Incumbents Out
21 November 2005Next year, we should all go to the polls and vote against every single incumbent running for re-election, regardless of his or her party or so-called philosophy.
Can you understand what a shock it would be if all 435 members of the U.S. House and the third of the Senate that will be running were defeated? Washington would never be the same again, and that, on its face, would be a good thing.
I know most folks feel about their congressional representative or senator the way most parents (…) -

As rural economies collapse, communities across America are being deserted
21 November 2005Population 1: the town that’s been reclaimed by the prairie
As rural economies collapse, communities across America are being deserted, as Paul Harris discovers in Monowi, Nebraska
Sunday November 20, 2005 The Observer
The entire population of Monowi, Nebraska, is sitting in a bar. Her name is Elsie Eiler, 72.
Monowi, founded by Czech immigrants seeking a slice of the American dream, is on its last legs. Only Eiler is left, surrounded by the ruins of homes that once boasted families, (…) -
The failing of small towns across America is a canary in the coal mine.
21 November 2005Jobs are disappearing everywhere across the country. We can no longer sit silent while Washington denudes the U.S. of its farms, ranches, factories, defenses, and wealth. Make no mistake - this country is being gutted like a corporate takeover. The people are being left with nothing.
Our military is being wasted in Iraq to enrich defense contractors. Oil is just a small part of that picture.
And when there are no factories left to manufacture a defense, when we are importing everything, (…) -
Iraq fraud arrests expose criminality of US occupation
21 November 2005The arrest this week of a private contractor and a former US government official in connection with a multimillion-dollar contract-rigging and bribery scandal has exposed a piece of the corruption and criminality that is pervasive in America’s continuing military occupation of Iraq. It has likewise offered a glimpse of the layer of con men and profiteers who have flooded into the country in the name of reconstruction and democracy.
Formally charged on Thursday were Philip H. Bloom, a US (…) -
WHEN LEADERS ARE MURDEROUS
21 November 2005MURDEROUS LEADERS
By Peter Fredson
November 21, 2005
History has long passages referring to the murderous inclinations of politicians. Just read the HISTORY OF THE PERSIAN WARS by Herodotus if you wish to get a feeling of revulsion at the senseless murders of many thousands of people because of the whims of leaders seeking power.
Perhaps you have heard of a leader of Haiti who marched a troop of soldiers over a cliff just to demonstrate to a visitor their absolute loyalty to him? (…) -
GOP’s New War On The Poor Designed To Accomodate the Nation’s Wealthiest 0.2%
21 November 2005by Brian McAfee
In a shocking but nevertheless not surprising maneuver U.S. House Republicans are attempting to introduce a bill that will cause serious damage to the already precarious existence of the nation’s 37 million poor.
In a multi-pronged attack the Republicans have endeavered to target the safety net that the nation’s children and those living in poverty rely on.
Programs targeted include food stamps, school lunch programs, student aid for college, child support (…) -

21 November 2005A former guardsman suffering from Gulf War Syndrome has won a landmark legal case against the Ministry of Defence.
Daniel Martin, 35, who has suffered from chronic fatigue syndrome, memory loss and impaired concentration since the 1991 conflict, will receive a disability award under the "umbrella term" of Gulf War Syndrome.
He is one of 1,500 soldiers who made a claim for a disablement pension because of the syndrome, which, for the past 14 years, the MoD has said does not exist.

Bush Misled by Chinese Door: Exit Plan Fails
20 November 2005President George W Bush tried to make a quick exit from a news conference in Beijing on Sunday - only to find himself thwarted by locked doors.
The president strode away from reporters looking annoyed after one said he appeared "off his game".
President Bush tugged at both handles on the double doors before admitting: "I was trying to escape. Obviously, it didn’t work."
Mr Bush flies to Mongolia on Monday to complete his East Asia tour.
