In an effort to thwart domestic terror, some privacy protections would be rolled back.

WASHINGTON - Pentagon intelligence operatives would be allowed to collect information from U.S. citizens without revealing their status as government spies under legislation approved by the Senate Intelligence Committee and publicly released this week.
The bill would end a long-standing requirement that military intelligence officers disclose their (…)

Bush’s Stay out of Jail Card
4 October 2005Bush’s Stay out of Jail Card
In the high stakes game of Supreme Court Hold ’Em, Dubya has made a decisive and bold, yet defensive move. Has has gone "all in" and nominated his former personal lawyer, Harriet Miers, for the Supreme Court. What better way to avoid jail for war crimes, profiteering and conspiracy. Appoint your own lawyer to the bench. A truly brilliant maneouver even if Alberto’s really disappointed. Bush’s cronies can stop sweating now.
ABC News: Who Is Harriet Miers? (…) -
History of the War Machine
4 October 2005This presentation comes from a wealth of sources, but I want to acknowledge the outstanding contribution by David Callahan, author of Dangerous Capabilities. For the sake of audio recordings, some of what I say will undoubtedly paraphrase his work, and-lest there be any misunderstanding-whatever overlap occurs between his work and my notes is to his credit and not mine.
Today’s presentation provides information surrounding the co-opting of Cold War policies by post-Cold War (…) -
Sibel Edmonds: Translator caught in web
4 October 2005When Sibel Edmonds was a young girl, her father, a physician in Iran, was asked to falsify an autopsy finding. Angrily, he refused, daring the authorities to retaliate.
At home, he told his family: "Things like this do not happen in truly democratic civil societies - like America."
Sibel still clings to her father’s words, but her Kafka-esque encounter with the U.S. government is challenging her faith.
She wanders a wonderland of classified documents and covert hearings, waiting to see (…) -
CNBC’s Ron Insana Propaganda Exposed on Live Radio
4 October 2005Anyone listening to Ron Insana’s radio program today heard Ron, with his 2 guests, US Generals Francona and Downing, field callers questions about the situation in Iraq.
I called in and asked 3 quick questions. To paraphrase the questions:
1. On Supporting the Troops: I noted that the Generals expressed the need for more money to be allocated by Congress to the occupation, and I asked how can we give them more money when much of it goes missing. I asked about Halliburton and the missing (…) -
Audio: Brad Blog crushes Ann Coulter
4 October 2005AUDIO FILE NOW AVAILABLE FOR LISTENING!
Blogged by Brad in Portland, OR
Just finished my hour on the Ron Insana Radio Show with Ann Coulter...Well, half hour with Coulter. She left at the bottom of the hour for some reason.
Prior to the show, when Ron asked her off air if she would be able to stay for the full hour, she said "Well, I had it down for 30 minutes, so I’ll have to let you know at the bottom of the hour if I can stay."
For some reason or another, she was then gone after (…) -
Tex. grand jury indicts DeLay on new charge- money laundering
4 October 2005A Texas grand jury indicted Rep. Tom DeLay on a new charge of money laundering Monday, less than a week after another grand jury leveled a conspiracy charge that forced DeLay to temporarily step down as House majority leader.
Both indictments accuse DeLay and two political associates of conspiring to get around a state ban on corporate campaign contributions by funneling the money through a political action committee to the Republican National Committee in Washington.
The RNC then sent (…) -
Neo-CONNED! and Neo-CONNED! Again
4 October 2005A Must-Read Set on Gulf II
After 20 months of extensive research, Neo-CONNED! and Neo-CONNED! Again are finished! Currently on a truck and headed from the printer in Wisconsin to our Chicago distributor and Colorado fulfillment center, these two volumes bring together the leading minds and pens of journalism, politics, the military, the intelligence community, and academia for a hard-hitting, no-holds-barred examination of the immorality, the injustice, the illegality, and the insanity of (…) -
Abu Ghraib guard tells of worse abuse
4 October 2005A US soldier convicted of humiliating and abusing Iraqi prisoners has said she knew of "worse things" happening at Abu Ghraib.
Former private first class Lynndie England also insisted on Sunday that military commanders were fully aware of what was going on in Iraq’s infamous jail. In her first post-court marshal interview, England contradicted assertions by top Pentagon officials that a small group of out-of-control soldiers was responsible for abuse at Abu Ghraib and said that (…) -
Why I No Longer Support The Military! They Have Betrayed Us!
4 October 2005I can no longer support the military and let me tell you why. By “military” I mean the higher echelon, the generals, - the commanders, - those who are using our enlisted troops as fodder. Our enlisted men and women are the pawns sent to bleed and die in the Bush wars, and have become the fall guys who take the blame for the horrors in this illegal and immoral war.
I have spent every day of my life for the past 3 years fighting for my nation and fighting for our troops. Yes, I have fought (…)
