Opposition Leader Kim Beazley says the ALP needs to concentrate on holding the government to account rather than looking inward.
On Thursday, Mr Beazley said he was turning his focus to the campaign by the ACTU against the government’s proposed industrial reforms.
Speaking to a crowd of around 100,000 in Melbourne, Mr Beazley committed Labor to fight to wind back many of the proposed changes.
A rally of similar number will wind through the streets of Sydney.
Mr Beazley’s call follows (…)

Dangerous Incompetence
1 July 2005The president who displayed his contempt for Iraqi militants two years ago with the taunt "bring ’em on" had to go on television Tuesday night to urge Americans not to abandon support for the war that he foolishly started but can’t figure out how to win. Skip to next paragraph

By Anthony Wade
George W. Bush knows no shame. Having presided over the deaths of 1,700-7,000 American kids, for lies he propagated, President Bush used tonight’s message to extend his lies, and launch new, brazen mistruths. George Bush proved one thing tonight. He cares not what the American people think, and he further thinks they are too stupid to realize when they are being (…) -

PRESIDENTIAL EBULLIENCE

By Peter Fredson

A comment from a reporter concerning George W. Bush’s speech on June 27th was that he was “ebullient.” . My collegiate dictionary describes ebullience as “A boiling up or over: overflow.” While ebullient is a “boiling up or causing such action; hence, manifesting exhilaration or excitement, as of feeling.”
My computer WORD thesaurus describes ebullient as “cheerful, happy, fun, jovial, bright, and cheery.” I thought all those (…) -
Kucinich: New Urgency to bipartisan efforts to pass "Homeward Bound" Resolution
30 June 2005Iraq Withdrawal Bill Critical and Timely
There is a new urgency to our bipartisan efforts to pass House Joint Resolution 55, a bill to establish a plan to begin the end of the war in Iraq. Last night’s nationally televised speech by the President made it clear we are in Iraq for time indefinite. While the Administration relentlessly conflates Iraq and 9/11, the war in Iraq is not about Saddam and WMDs anymore. It’s about terror, terrorists, and anti-terrorists: the President told us that (…) -
Mr President, I’ll fly my flag at half staff on July 4
30 June 2005I was struck by the demeanor of the 700 soldiers in dress uniform attending the President’s speech last night at Ft Bragg. They were polite. The singular time there was applause came at the prompting of a White House Advance team person.
The soldiers were the dignity and nobility in that room last night. Their Commander in Chief, our President seems to have a way with exploiting the dignity of our military and our loved ones deployed who are doing the grist of the ’hard work’ . The litany (…)
