His photo could be that of any of hundreds of thousands of anonymous U.S. soldiers in desert cammo. But suddenly, Spc. Jeremy Sivits find himself cast on the world stage as The Face of America.
The first public hanging in the Abu Ghraib abuse fiasco has been scheduled for May 16. Not surprisingly, the first perpetrator to be tried is a lower echelon enlisted person - Spc. Sivits. It’s not clear what Sivits role in this whole mess might have been, but (…)

A failure of leadership at the highest levels
12 May 2004http://www.armytimes.com/story.php?f=1-292925-2903288.php
Around the halls of the Pentagon, a term of caustic derision has emerged for the enlisted soldiers at the heart of the furor over the Abu Ghraib prison scandal: the six morons who lost the war.
Indeed, the damage done to the U.S. military and the nation as a whole by the horrifying photographs of U.S. soldiers abusing Iraqi detainees at the notorious prison is incalculable.
But the folks in the Pentagon are talking about the (…) -

After reading a statement, the man was beheaded.

CHAIN OF COMMAND: How the Department of Defense mishandled the disaster at Abu Ghraib.
11 May 2004In his devastating report on conditions at Abu Ghraib prison, in Iraq, Major General Antonio M. Taguba singled out only three military men for praise. One of them, Master-at-Arms William J. Kimbro, a Navy dog handler, should be commended, Taguba wrote, because he ’knew his duties and refused to participate in improper interrogations despite significant pressure from the MI’-military intelligence-’personnel at Abu Ghraib.’ Elsewhere in the report it became clear what Kimbro would not do: (…)

Until now EU has been unwilling to eliminate farm subsidies.
11 May 2004KILLARNEY, Ireland The European Union is ready to eliminate its lavish subsidies on farm exports to galvanize sluggish world trade talks provided its main partners do the same, EU trade chief Pascal Lamy said on Monday.
Details of the proposed move, long demanded by critics of its generous farm subsidies, have been sent to members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) just days before ministers from several WTO states hold a potentially crucial meeting in Paris.

Military Personnel: Don’t Read This!
How a Pentagon email sought to contain the prison abuse scandal
By VIVIENNE WALT / BAGHDAD
Document: The Pentagon Email
It’s not exactly every day that the Pentagon warns military personnel to stay away from Fox News. But that’s exactly what some hopeful soul at the Department of Defense instructed, in a memo intended to forbid Pentagon staff reading a copy of the Taguba report detailing abuse of detainees at (…) -
Our Nation has been hijacked - An Extreme Danger - NOT in My name and never again.
11 May 2004An Extreme Danger:
The Neocons and Bushites are fine tuning thier ’White propaganda’ for our consumption through the domestic press.
They are trying to stop the continued viewing of any pictures with clever seeming arguments about the damage being done to the nations interests, that the pictures are purely media sensationalsism for ratings.
These arguments are very dangerous.
I believe these events create an opportunity to look beyond the torture, the crimes, and legal (…) -
