Scientific opinions, global warming & 2010-2011 Pakistan, Brazil, Sri Lanka & Australia flood disasters
15 January 2011Because the day to day weather is highly variable one cannot attribute the severity of any specific weather event (such as the current La Niña-associated Queensland and Eastern and Southern Australian floods) to man-made global warming.
However increased greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution leads successively to global warming, increased sea temperature, increased evaporation and thence to increased precipitation.
Indeed the incidence of floods has greatly increased throughout the world over (…) -

15 January 2011Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria in Australia are currently ravaged by floods associated with the latest La Niña climate event. However man-made global warming from greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution has increased sea temperatures and increased the likelihood and severity of such flood disasters. The Climate Emergency Network has issued a statement urging Australia, a world-leading per capita GHG polluter, to stop burning coal and gas.
Queensland, Australia, continues to be ravaged by (…) -

8 Smears and Misconceptions About WikiLeaks Spread By the Media
13 January 2011The corporate media’s tendency to blare misinformation and outright fabrications has been particularly egregious in coverage of WikiLeaks. As Glenn Greenwald has argued, mainstream news outlets are parroting smears and falsehoods about the whistleblower site and its founder Julian Assange, helping to perpetuate a number of "zombie lies" — misconceptions that refuse to die no matter how much they conflict with known reality, basic logic and well-publicized information.
Here are the bogus (…) -

An American Suicide Terrorist
12 January 2011The shooter of Congresswoman Gifford acted as a domestic suicide terrorist on the political “battleground” of American politics. His YouTube postings and “goodby” phone messages are ominously reminiscent of the traditional farewell videos of Islamist martyrs.
The deadly combination of suicide terrorists’ mental instability, their political and religious indoctrination, and readily available bomb materials and firearms explode in violence almost every day somewhere in the Middle-East. (…) -
What’s Causing Kidney Disease in Nicaragua: BUSPH Researchers Investigate
12 January 2011It’s a compelling public health mystery: Thousands of people in Northwestern Nicaragua are dying from chronic kidney failure, and no one knows why.
Now, an interdepartmental team of Boston University School of Public Health [BUSPH] researchers is on the case, sifting for answers.
"The disease has, essentially, been a death sentence once you get it," said BUSPH researcher Daniel Brooks, an associate professor of epidemiology who leads the group. "We don’t often have public health (…) -

As Sarah Palin whines about liberals blaming her for the recent Arizona tragedies, thus focusing those tragedies on her rather than the victims and their families, I ask you to imagine pundits and politicians saying what she has said about so called terrorist tragedies. In a recent video Palin says, "After this shocking tragedy, I listened at first puzzled, then with concern, and now with sadness, to (…) -
