The UK Guardian’s “Comment is Free” has just published an article by a former British member of the US-funded Israeli Defence Force, one Seth Freedman. I commented on what I described as a “thoughtful article” which simply made the point that in remembering the Allied war dead in World War 1 on Remembrance Day (11 November) one should give pause to think of the Other Soldiers in that conflict and indeed in what the author euphemistically describes as the “Israeli-Palestinian imbroglio” ( in (…)

11 November 2008Remembrance Day (Australia, Canada, United Kingdom), also known as Poppy Day (Malta and South Africa) and Armistice Day (France, New Zealand, and many other Commonwealth countries; and the original name of the day internationally) "is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War. It is observed on 11 November to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918.”

He will have to get out of Iraq, and he will have to tell Israel a few home truths

American lawyers defending six Algerians before a habeas corpus hearing in Washington this week learned some very odd things about US intelligence after 9/11. From among the millions of "raw" reports from American (…) -

RE-BRANDING OPPRESSION
John Chuckman
There has been an ad on television recently, one featuring a young couple walking or drifting into a place of enchantment, a warm and colourful fantasy world, a kind of biblical Disneyland. Every step of their brief journey is met by people smiling warmly, moving slowly, even bowing, greeting them at each turn with Shalom!
It is interesting that all the faces in the ad are the same kind of faces we might see in New York or (…) -

The same old with Powell, Rice, and Obama, or real change with Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich?
10 November 2008I’m not sure when exactly I became color blind, it was years ago. I believe it occurred during my time at the University of Waterloo where I had the good fortunes of interacting with people from around the world, many of whom were from Africa. The only major difference that I noted between blacks and every other race was that when we played soccer, almost everyone that was from Africa wore gloves and extra clothing so that they could stay warm.
I mention this because there seems to be a (…) -
