COUNTERPUNCH
Second in a three-part series.
In 1990, the National Law Journal ran profiles of "the 100 Most Influential Lawyers in the United States". Hillary Clinton was on the list, and for years she would publicly boast that the Journal had named her one of "the nation’s 100 top lawyers". Finally, the editor of the National Law Journal, Patrick Oster, wrote to Arkansas’ first lady—as she still was in 1991—testily pointing out that the word "influential" is not synonymous with "top" or (…)

JOHN PILGER : LEST WE FORGET
16 November 2007INFORMATIONCLEARINGHOUSE
1/15/07 "ICH" — — On Remembrance Day 2007 – Veterans Day in America – the great and the good bowed their heads at the Cenotaph. Generals, politicians, newsreaders, football managers and stock-market traders wore their poppies. Hypocrisy was a presence. No one mentioned Iraq. No one uttered the slightest remorse for the fallen of that country. No one read the forbidden list.
The forbidden list documents, without favor, the part the British state and its court have (…) -

Canadian taser death sparks calls for police review
16 November 2007By Simon Santow
Tasers, or stun guns, are meant to be a substitute for lethal force. Every police force in Australia at the moment is either conducting trials of taser guns or already using them officially.
But an incident in Canada has again raised questions about their safety.
A Polish man who had just arrived at Vancouver Airport died when Canadian police tasered him into submission. Two bursts of 50,000 volts into the man were enough to kill him.
Robert Dziekanski had not been (…) -

Red Cross Monitors Barred From Guantánamo
16 November 2007By WILLIAM GLABERSON
A confidential 2003 manual for operating the Guantánamo detention center shows that military officials had a policy of denying detainees access to independent monitors from the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The manual said one goal was to “exploit the disorientation and disorganization felt by a newly arrived detainee,” by denying access to the Koran and by preventing visits with Red Cross representatives, who have a long history of monitoring the (…) -

THE MAKING OG HILLARY CLINTON by ALEX COCKBURN AND JEFFREY SAINT CLAIR
16 November 2007From Nixon Girl to Watergate First in a three-part series.
Hillary Clinton has always been an old-style Midwestern Republican in the Illinois style; one severely infected with Methodism, unlike the more populist variants from Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa.
Her first known political enterprise was in the 1960 presidential election, the squeaker where the state of Illinois notoriously put Kennedy over the top, courtesy of Mayor Daley, Sam Giancana and Judith Exner. Hillary was a Nixon (…) -

CNN SHOWS CANADIAN POLICE MURDERING A GUY WITH SEVERAL TASER GUNS
15 November 2007Several Canadian Mounties fire tasers into guy who can’t speak english, because he was throwing a small temper tantrum. These devices are lethal and any department or people thinking they can use them any differnet than anyother weapon should be arrested police or non police. Canada will hopefully get sued big time, and these officers will go to jail for excessive force. This was an unarmed civilian who is now dead because these police were scared and should never had been officers in the (…)
