Gathering nuclear storm By Arnaud de Borchgrave August 29, 2006
Just days before the United Nations Security Council deadline for Iran to cease and desist enriching uranium, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad gave the West the Iranian bird. By inaugurating a "heavy-water" reactor, Iran instantly doubled its chances of acquiring nuclear weapons. Adding insult to injury, the military mullahs test-fired a new long-range missile — the Thaqeb, or Saturn, a submarine-to-surface weapon.

Italian Islamic groups forced to sign a Statement of Values
31 August 2006Shaping opinions by constriction
By Mary Rizzo
In a functional democracy, one of the basic principals is that there should be the recognition of the right of individuals to hold their own opinion. This is often extended to groups, as is natural, since groups are nothing more than individuals who share things in common. The right to hold an opinion also entails the right to express that opinion, even if it is in dissent from the dominant or majority one. There are many ways to express an (…) -
We need you as much as you need us ... it is a symbiotic relationship, folks!
31 August 2006by Mary MacElveen
Many have emailed me that stating that I hate United States and nothing can be farther from the truth ... I love my country, just not its government.
On many occasions through writing for VHeadline.com, I have told my readers in the United States how their own damn government was their enemy and not President Hugo Chavez.
On several occasions, I have written favorable comments when it comes to Congressman Ron Paul of Texas. In my eyes, he is very much the patriot. (…) -
Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them

Tom Kean, the Republican running against Bob Menendez for the U.S. Senate seat recently vacated by John Corzine, is trying very hard to avoid talking about the issues. For instance, he’d rather avoid letting New Jersey know that he would have voted to confirm Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. He’d rather avoid discussing whether he would have voted for the Bush tax cuts that (…) -
Towards the Truth Regarding War Crimes Committed in Lebanon
31 August 2006Lebanon has been victim of what the French government has called a ‘disproportionate’ act of war committed by Israel. This war has violated international law which stipulates that all attacks should be in keeping with proportionality and a limited use of violence against only military objectives. In addition, Israeli military operations contravened the First Additional Protocol of the Geneva Conventions, which stipulates that collective punishments and actions against the civilian (…)

A Father’s Ode to His Lost Son
31 August 2006by Haim Watzman
David Grossman, a leading Israeli novelist and peace activist, lost his soldier-son, Uri, earlier this month. Uri was serving on the front lines in Lebanon and was killed two days before the U.N.-brokered cease-fire. He died two weeks before his 21st birthday. His father delivered these remarks at his funeral on Aug. 16.
My Dearest Uri,
For the last three days, almost every thought has had a "won’t" in it. He won’t come home, we won’t talk, we won’t laugh. That boy with (…) -
Real Wages Fail to Match a Rise in Productivity
30 August 2006By STEVEN GREENHOUSE and DAVID LEONHARDT
With the economy beginning to slow, the current expansion has a chance to become the first sustained period of economic growth since World War II that fails to offer a prolonged increase in real wages for most workers.
That situation is adding to fears among Republicans that the economy will hurt vulnerable incumbents in this year’s midterm elections even though overall growth has been healthy for much of the last five years.
The median hourly (…) -
Trying to Make It Home New Orleans a Year After Katrina
30 August 2006By BILL QUIGLEY New Orleans .
Bernice Mosely is 82 and lives alone in New Orleans in a shotgun double. On August 29, 2005, as Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, the levees constructed by the U.S. Corps of Engineers failed in five places and New Orleans filled with water.
One year ago Ms. Mosely was on the second floor of her neighborhood church. Days later, she was helicoptered out. She was so dehydrated she spent eight days in a hospital. Her next door neighbor, 89 years old, stayed behind to (…)
