Edito Demos-Actions Movement Wars and conflicts USA

Despite an unconstitutional federal ban being placed on the posting of promotional material for today’s September 15th Anti-War Rally, reports show that thousands have turned out to participate in the demonstration at the US Capitol.

American citizens are marching on the White House, many arrests have already been made, and mass die-ins are also planned to represent the casualties of war and occupation. A number of prominent speakers are being heard at the rally in Lafayette Park, across from the White House.

Unfortunately, my financial situation has keep me from being there myself, but I’ll be posting several short videos from the rally throughout the day from other vloggers participating in the protest. Check back throughout the day for more updates below the fold.

Brian Becker states that the next antiwar rally, set for set for late October, will bring one million demonstrators to DC. In the “Civil Disobedience” video below, you can see that Becker was later arrested for crossing a police line at the Capitol.

Rev. Yearwood delivered one of the most genuinely passionate speeches I’ve ever heard. He didn’t let the injuries to his leg, that he obtained after being abused by Capitol police, prevent him from leading the march. “We won’t sit down, but we will lie down so the whole world can stand up.”

Brian Becker is seen being arrested by Capitol police. After about 3 ½ minutes into the video above, you can also see Rev. Lennox Yearwood, president of the Hip-Hop Caucus and member of Iraq Veterans Against the War.

CEO of Grassroots America Tina Richards is the mother of Cloy Richards, an Iraq War Veteran. She and Adam Kokesh of Iraq Vets Against the War were arrested earlier this month for defying the federal government ban on posting promotional material for today’s Antiwar Rally. In this clip, Richards reads a powerful poem written by her son entitled, “A Word is Worth a Thousand Pictures.”

If you’d like to see speeches from Medea Benjamin of Code Pink, Kevin Zeese of Voters for Peace and Democracy Rising, Gloria La Riva of the National Committee to Free the Cuban Five, Peta Lindsay of the ANSWER coalition, and Fred Mason of the AFL-CIO, then visit William Hughes’ channel on YouTube. He has done a phenomenal job of providing the majority of clips posted here already.
