Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena : US troops fired on the convoy transporting her

Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena, earlier reported released in Iraq, was wounded when US troops fired on the convoy transporting her, her newspaper said.
Freed Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena was wounded when US troops opened fire on a convoy carrying her to safety, and an Italian mediator who help negotiate her release was killed, her newspaper Il Manifesto said on Friday.
"She was going in a car to the airport with three people from the Italian security forces. US forces opened fire on the car. She is fine but there are wounded," Il Manifesto’s editorial director Francesco Paterno said.
Sgrena was taken to a US-run hospital for treatment for wounds to her shoulder, the newspaper said.
Italy’s Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi confirmed late on Friday that US troops had fired on Sgrena’s convoy as it approached a checkpoint.
Shot dead
Berlusconi’s office also announced that the US ambassador to Italy had been summoned over the matter.
"As the fire came from American forces, I decided to summon the US ambassador immediately," Berlusconi told a news conference.
The mediator, an Italian secret service agent, was shot dead in the incident, Il Manifesto said.
Sgrena, 56, was kidnapped by armed men near Baghdad University where she had been interviewing refugees from last year’s US assault on Falluja.
Il Manifesto’s editorial director Francesco Paterno said he had been informed of Sgrena’s release by an Italian official in charge of the secret service.
"It’s been confirmed. Gianni Letta confirmed it. They have her," said Paterno, without giving any further details.
Italy’s President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi also confirmed that Sgrena had been released.

This happens because of the poor communication between troops and checkpoints and the generally poor training that US Troops have. The training is rushed, it borders on sadistic and really...what the hell are they doing there anyway?

Not much else newsworthy in the AP account, but this is unbelieveable- ’they don’t know where the car is’. The incompetence excuse is getting very old. And then there’s this:

This whole situation is a bit ridiculous. Shouldn’t the headline actually read:
"Communist responsible for the death of one of Italy’s best Secret Service Agents"
After all, if she hadn’t happened to get herself kidnapped in what appears to be a farcical and possibly staged abduction, the secret service agent would never have been in country in the first place.

I didn’t write the original message - but is this site just for left-wing pie holders (see picture)? People should re-read the utterly absurd things that have been written about the U.S. above - I don’t worship the U.S. but I also don’t take what communists say seriously. Also - could you please post a picture of her in her War Correspondent Clothing instead of holding a pie? I mean it makes it look like she wasn’t a member of a risk taking profession.

So the presumption is a "communist" never tells the truth according to apologist of U.S. occupation forces. So if a "communist" says the earth is round, one must assert that it is flat?
The fact of the matter, there is NO...NO story that Sgrena’s kidnapping was STAGED, that’s is just
baseless ranting from a bush reporter. NOT even the U.S. goverment has EVER said anything, indicating that is was even a possibility. So FORGET about it!
As far as poor training, not all U.S. occupation forces are "poorly Trained"..some are, not all, in fact
IsraEL according to numerous reports, has trained U.S. forces in the art of controlling towns,roads and
yes even check points.
WE DO know they passed through several U.S. check points with NO problem, so why did the last open fire?
