3 October 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
OAXACA CITY - Protesters in Oaxaca City were on full alert Saturday after two Navy helicopters conducted several flyovers over the besieged state capital.
When the helicopters were spotted, members of the Oaxaca People’s Assembly (APPO) set off signal rockets from the Zócalo to alert supporters who were manning barricades throughout the city.
APPO quickly began broadcasting on Radio La Ley - one of the radio transmitters in the city that they have taken over - preaching calm, but at the (…) -

YOUR GOVERNMENT, on the basis of outrageous lies, is waging a murderous and utterly illegitimate war in Iraq, with other countries in their sights.
YOUR GOVERNMENT is openly torturing people, and justifying it.
YOUR GOVERNMENT puts people in jail on the merest suspicion, refusing them lawyers, and either holding them indefinitely or deporting them in the dead of night.
YOUR GOVERNMENT is moving each day (…) -
America’s "Laurel and Hardy" Syndrome: Why am I not laughing?
28 September 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentMost of the world is familiar with Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, the two loveable "idiots" of comedic cinema. Well, now I’ve slapped their names on the totally obvious "syndrome" which so many Americans exhibit every day.
But it ain’t funny!
In many of their films Stan and Ollie, always the innocents, manage to be suckered by some scam which is so obvious to most viewers that we recoil in incredulity at the rank stupidity the two bafoons demonstrate!
In our country, the MEDIA has the (…) -

The Radical Changes in Conservatism since Goldwater
22 September 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentLanguage is the most imperfect and expensive means yet discovered for communicating thought.
William James
HBO is currently running, "Mr. Conservative: Goldwater on Goldwater," a brilliant documentary on the life and times of Barry Goldwater. Though produced by his granddaughter, it’s as fair and critical as anything in its genre. In addition to tracing Goldwater’s career, it illustrates how today’s fundamentalist/neoconservative intellectuals and politicians calling themselves (…) -
A Day at Camp Democracy
11 September 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentA Day a Camp Democracy I woke up at 5:30 AM to catch a 6:20 train to Philly, where I caught a train from Philly’s 30th street station to Washington’s Union Station. I walked about half mile from there to the mall where Camp Democracy was set up. Entering it, there was a 30 foot high inflated figure, like one of thsose parade floats, in the shape of George Bush, with a very long nose and a a big sign on it— "impeach me." They called it Bushnoccio.
There’s a great lecture by Steven Zunes (…) -
THE AMERICAN RESISTANCE - THE TIME HAS ARRIVED

6 commentsTHE AMERICAN RESISTANCE - THE TIME HAS ARRIVED
By: Ted Lang
The time has arrived - a designation must be assigned to the increasing number of Americans who are fed up and terrified by the unbelievable and staggering criminal acts perpetrated both domestically and internationally by the Bush gang. Bush and his GOP are targeting and immediately attacking any and all inspirations of accurate journalistic reporting of administration wrongdoing, proving all the more how despotic American (…) -

(A talk by Mitchel Cohen at the "Another World is Necessary" conference on July 24, 2006 in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, sponsored by the Center for Global Justice.)
There is a kind of environmentalist who argues that police clubs must be made from organic, non-rainforest wood, that police use soy-based ink to take our fingerprints when we are arrested, that they use recycled paper for all tickets and citations, and that their bullets be made from recycled metal. We on (…) -
