Edito Wars and conflicts Prison Governments USA

By Matthew Moore

MORE photographs have been leaked of Iraqi citizens tortured by US soldiers at the notorious Abu Ghraib prison on the outskirts of Baghdad.

Tonight the SBS Dateline program plans to broadcast about 60 previously unpublished photographs that the US Government has been fighting to keep secret in a court case with the American Civil Liberties Union.

Although a US judge last year granted the union access to the photographs following a freedom-of-information request, the US Administration has appealed against the decision on the grounds their release would fuel anti-American sentiment.

Some of the photos are similar to those published in 2004, others are different. They include photographs of six corpses, although the circumstances of their deaths are not clear. There are also pictures of what appear to be burns and wounds from shotgun pellets.

The executive producer of Dateline, Mike Carey, said he was showing the pictures leaked to his program because it was important people understood what had happened at Abu Ghraib.

Seven US guards were jailed following publication of the first batch of Abu Ghraib photographs in April 2004.

Mr Carey said he could not explain why the photographs had not yet been published, as he thought it was likely that some journalists had them.

"It think it’s strange, maybe they think its more of the same."

■ The Daily Telegraph, London reports: A British soldier who is believed to have filmed fellow troops assaulting Iraqi civilians has been arrested, the Ministry of Defence said on Monday. The ministry had not confirmed whether he was being questioned as a witness or a suspect.

  • 1.2 billion Muslims in the world. USA about to bomb Iran to stop the oil exchange from opening. From Haiti to Columbia to Middle East to Europe to Asian to Africa and all the way back to North America. Get ready for some serious chaos caused by stupidity and ignorance from the West.

Hope everyone has already sold their big SUV’s, pulled out of the stock markets, and got rid of their debts because the big boys with their big banks are about to do another big money grab.

    Alan Philps: Baghdad weblog

American and Iraqi troops have found hundreds of prisoners packed so tightly into a Baghdad detention centre that they had trouble lying down, it was announced yesterday. Some had been tortured.

Of the 625 men, 13 were taken to hospital to be treated for broken bones or the effects of electric shocks. Others had fingernails pulled out or cigarette burns on their necks and backs.

    More Saddam Tapes: creepiness - Wednesday, February 15, 2006 @ 12:06:21 AM
Revelations include discussion of a WMD attack on the United States sometime in the late 90s.

Revelations include calling on the expertise of a prominent member state of the UN Security Council in order to conceal WMD and weapons systems.

Revelations include discussions of assassination plots against prominent world leaders, none of whom will enjoy hearing his or her name mentioned once the tapes are played.

Revelations include a nightmare scenario that will not surprise readers of AmSpecBlog.

There is much more on the way, from all levels of major media. And a note to those who think the Bush Administration is large and in charge: there is good reason to believe that the White House political team does not know the contents of these tapes — and that critical congressional commitees do not know the contents. Not yet. These translations are first-time-ever from an idiomatic Tikriti-flavored Arabic to American English.

And the ummah internet crowd around the world will download and listen to the threats and boasts of a monster and puzzle how the ummah could have been fooled accidentally on purpose for so long.

Saddam "Chin" Hussein is a shrinking creep now; once he was a dangerous creep.

    • Oh panic panic panic....the public is going to find out more about the perverts in the military AGAIN.......quick make up some lies and put them out in the news via the military service propaganda machine and the corrupt main stream news organizations.....cover it up some more and pretend someone was held accountable.....9/11 9/11 9/11.....Saddam Saddam Saddam......."better them than us"....."those rag heads are not human"....."Our God is bigger than theirs"......"We’re Christians, so we can torture cause God wants us to"......"God bless our troops"...."If you don’t support our perverts, I mean our sacred troops, then you are not American"...."Love it or leave it"......"This is a "Christian" nation"....."Our behavior should never be questioned"...."Sodomizing these Iraqi scum is God’s way of telling them he hates them"......

    • i said all along they would never let us see the saddam trial and despite the fact that the trial started in october and we still have not seen any evidence that points to saddam we are seeing plenty of evidence that will jail bush and his father and brothers and sister. lock up every bush and it want solve all the worlds problems but a bush behind bars is a good start

  • There are some redneck perverts on this board who think this was justified.

America is a sick country and it makes me sick!

"...better them than us". This comment shows it all!

  • "State of Fear", Pamela Yates director. Everyone should see it - the US tv will not permit it to be aired. National Geographic International aired it world wide. It’s been translated to countless languages around the wolrd. But Americans cannot see it not even on PBS. When you see it, you will know why.

It scares the crap out of me to know that thses same US military personnel who committed those atrocities will be coming back to the US to live among us.

  • "And it scares the crap out of me that they’re still training some US military personnel with torture manuals: http://www.geocites.com/virtualtruth/manuals.htm Let’s sort them out starting at the top. They must be held accountable."

They have been and are being held accountable. Unfortunately you are only hearing the negative propaganda side of the story.

  • I think, I will state the obvious:

The horror and utter humiliation inflicted on the depicted Iraqi individuals are sickening and makes me ashamed, not just as a Westerner and a Christian, but simply as a human being.

However, I do not think, that those who haven’t been moved by the first batch of the Abu Graib pictures, as well as the numerous other witness stories and photos available on the ’net suddenly will exercise their empathy for the sufferers now.

Alas there is a danger, that the relentlesss publications of these photos, subconsciously drags us down to a sadistic-pornographic level.

    Tom,

    • This is what GW Bush thinks of when he says "spreading freedom and democracy". The US has been reduced to a pathetic flock of sheeple who clap like seals and yel ork, ork, ork while cold blooded murder is being perpetrated in their name.

The Republic is dead America. Face it. The ONLY difference between the US and the old Soviet Union is that THEY wore uniforms - WE wear SUITS!

Democracy was a nice experiment but it ended in 2000. And the lock was placed on freedom after the CONTROLLED DEMOLITIONS OF 911.

      Adios Republica

  • The CIA ordered these people to be tortured and American GIs to pose with them. The GIs got punished and the CIA agents got aroused. To be a CIA agent you have to be a coward, liar, pervert, pedophile and Transvestite just like the FBI’s J. Edgar Hoover was, its a little known fact!

    • Another blatantly transparent attempt to rouse up the muslim population (like the recent muhammed cartoons) into acts of revenge to further justify brutal "suppression" of the "insurgents", or invasion of yet more arab countries. These poor souls who were subject to these atrocities (torture) are probably innocent taxi drivers or goat herders rounded up and thrown into abu graib. under torture they will admit to anything thus further justifying the lies of the allied invasion.

  • Now that you have seen the pictures of what 9/11 can do, listen to Dame Edna.
