Pro-Coal PM Rudd of climate criminal Australia attacks"act now" greens as "radical" & "extreme"

Environment Australia

The World is under enormous threat from man-made global warming (see the One-Page “Climate Emergency Facts and Required Actions” Statement designed for transmission to EVERYONE: http://sites.google.com/site/yarrav... ).

However leading per capita greenhouse gas polluter Australia is committed to DOUBLING CO2 pollution by 2050 (while most EU countries want to REDUCE it by 80%) – and now Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has slammed those wanting to save the Planet through urgent action of carbon pollution as “radical green groups” and “extreme green groups”.

The major threats to tropical and mega-delta regions (notably in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and the Americas) from steadily increasing, MAN-MADE global warming are from melting of the Himalaya plateau glaciers (the origins of major South Asian, South East Asian and East Asian rivers); increasing drought and potential monsoon failures (tropical and sub-tropical agriculture will be greatly damaged by global warming); and sea level rises, increased hurricane intensity and storm surges (that are already devastating delta regions around the Bay of Bengal and the Gulf of Mexico).

Low-lying Island States, other low-lying countries like the Netherlands and low-lying mega-delta regions are at increasing risk from man-made climate change.

A major climate criminal culprit is AUSTRALIA which as an “annual per capita Domestic and Exported fossil fuel-derived CO2 pollution” that is 2 times that of the other world-leading climate criminal nations the US and Canada, 10 times that of China and the World - and 40 times that of India and 160 times that of Bangladesh, countries most acutely threatened ALREADY by the present consequences of global warming.

Thus if one consults the US Energy Information Administration database (see: http://www.eia.doe.gov/ ) one obtains the following information on “annual per capita fossil fuel-derived carbon dioxide (CO2) pollution” in “tonnes per person per year” for Australia and other major polluters (2004 data): 19.2 (for Australia; 40 if you include Australia’s coal exports), 19.7 (the US), 18.4 (Canada), 9.9 (Japan), 4.2 (the World), 3.6 (China), 1.0 ( India) and 0.25 (for Bangladesh) (see: http://sites.google.com/site/yarrav... ).

Using the US Energy Information Agency (US EIA) and Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) projections it is estimated that Australia’s “annual per capita Domestic plus Exported greenhouse gas emissions” in tonnes CO2-e per person per year totalled 53.5 (2007) and 54.6 (2008) – and are projected to increase to 57.0 tonnes CO2-e per person per year in 2009 as compared to the 2005 OECD average of 14.0 and the World average of 6.6 tonnes CO2-e per person per year (see Figure 7.1, p154, Garnaut Report: http://www.garnautreview.org.au/pdf... and http://sites.google.com/site/yarrav... ).

However climate criminal Australia only recently signed the Kyoto Protocol (December 2007); sabotaged the 2007 Bali Climate Summit; is currently sabotaging the 2008 Poznan Climate Summit (by again refusing to declare specific GHG pollution targets); and the current policy of the new Bush-ite, right-wing, pro-Coal Australian Rudd Labor Government is committed to effectively DOUBLING Australia’s Domestic and Exported CO2 pollution over the 2000 value by 2050 – in horrible, stark contrast to many EU countries that want to REDUCE CO2 pollution by about 80% by 2050 (see: http://sites.google.com/site/yarrav... ).

This week, in interview with Kerry O’Brien (ABC 7.30 Report, 11 December 2008: http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/content/...) and after being asked about business pressure against Government action on greenhouse gas pollution, Australia’s Prime Minister Kevin Rudd described people wanting urgent action as “radical green groups” and “extreme green groups”, quote: “And I’m sure when this [Government carbon pollution policy] is delivered, early next week, we’ll get attacked from the left, from the right, we’ll get attacked by various radical green groups saying that we haven’t gone far enough because we haven’t closed down the coal industry by next Thursday ... We’ll be attacked from the far right and by various business groups, I suppose, and certainly the Liberal Party, for doing anything at all. And we’ll be attacked by extreme green groups for not taking the most radical course of action”.

One must seriously consider who is “extreme” and “radical” when top US and UK climate scientists are demanding urgent reduction of atmospheric CO2 concentration to a “safe” level below 350 ppm from the present 397 ppm (see: http://sites.google.com/site/yarrav... );

when top coral scientists say that the Great Barrier Reef goes above an atmospheric CO2 concentration greater than 450 ppm (see: http://www.abc.net.au/rn/sciencesho...) ;

when top UK climate scientists published recently in the prestigious Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society say “Even an optimistic interpretation suggests that stabilization much below 650 ppmv is improbable” (see: http://www.tyndall.ac.uk/publicatio... );

when outstanding UK environmentalist Professor George Monbiot says “The Planet is now so vandalized that only total energy renewal can save us” (see: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentis... );

when top scientists say “we face a climate emergency” (NASA’s Professor James Hansen), “it has reached the level of a state of emergency “ ( Professor David de Kretser AC, Governor of Victoria), ”we are in real danger” (Nobel Laureate Professor Peter Doherty (see: http://sites.google.com/site/yarrav... and http://sites.google.com/site/yarrav... );

when Australia’s Domestic and Exported greenhouse gas pollution under Rudd Labor INCREASED by over 2% in 2008 and is projected, barring recession effects, to increase by 6.5% over the 2007 value in 2009 (see: http://sites.google.com/site/yarrav... );

and when Australia’s actual current carbon pollution under Rudd Labor EXCEEDS that required under official Labor policy which is to DOUBLE Australia’s 2000 Domestic and Exported CO2 pollution by 2050 (see: http://sites.google.com/site/yarrav... ).

What can decent folk do to help protect the WORLD from remorseless, greedy, climate criminal, climate terrorist, climate racist countries like Australia?

Perhaps decent folk should take their cue from how decent folk around the world SUCCESSFULLY reacted with Demonstrations, Sanctions and Boycotts to the US-, UK-, Apartheid Israeli- and Australian-backed Apartheid régime in South Africa for its treatment of Africans, Indians and Chinese as second class citizens and denying them “one man one vote”.

Decent folk concerned about our increasingly threatened Planet should (a) inform everyone they can about the climate racist, climate terrorist, climate genocidal greenhouse gas pollution policies of climate criminal countries such as Australia; and (b) act ethically in all their avoidable personal and business dealings with individuals, institutions, corporations and countries complicit in the ongoing terracidal War on the Planet, the ongoing War on Terra (see “War on Terra, Climate criminals. “Terra” painting”: http://mwcnews.net/content/view/156... and “Climate Criminals & Climate Genocide. Anglo-Celtia threatens final Bengali Holocaust”: http://mwcnews.net/content/view/135... ).
