April 3rd and 4th — Strasburg. NATO turns 60. Let’s celebrate. An opportunity to seize, a call to be heard. Counter-summit in Strasburg: not an appointment with the Power, but a meeting with the situation.
Civilization knew it was bound to die someday – but only in theory. After several shocks and attacks, it now feels it through all its fibers, all its vital flows. A feeling of death in the democratic air. It is no longer denied, it has become a threat, a pretext for mobilization. Powers (…)

Being Woody Guthrie
1 March 2009 par (Open-Publishing)

Today we have so many celebrities who take on social causes; it is almost a given that they will each have some charity or cause that they support. That is good, I suppose, but still there is a clear distinction between being socially conscious and being Woody Guthrie.
Woody has been dead almost half a century, and his deeds and exploits have fallen from public memory. Woody wasn’t socially conscious, he was its conscience. In the dark (…) -
Video: Activists Want Law to Require 365 Days Notice of Eviction
24 February 2009 par (Open-Publishing)
On Feb. 23, 2009, activists held a press conference, rally and protest, at 4:15 PM, in front of Baltimore’s City Hall. They are seeking support for a City Council Bill, No. 09-0289, which will be introduced at the City Council meeting later this evening. The Bill, if passed into law, will require a 365 days notice of eviction on foreclosures. The measure is being championed by City Council members Bill Henry (D-4) and Mary Pat Clarke (D-14), among others. The group, “Network to Stop (…)

A New Declaration of Independence
20 February 2009 par (Open-Publishing)
When, in the course of human development, existing institutions prove inadequate to the needs of man, when they serve merely to enslave, rob, and oppress mankind, the people have the eternal right to rebel against, and overthrow, these institutions.
The mere fact that these forces—inimical to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—are legalized by statute laws, sanctified by divine rights, and enforced by political power, in no way justifies their continued existence.
We hold these (…) -
Psychedelic Israel - The Geula Party represents the cosmic anti-virus for Israel 2009
14 February 2009 par (Open-Publishing)
Ido Hartogsohn
What is the Geula Party? Is it a political statement? Art? A spiritual manifesto? The Geula party seeks to be all of the above, but it is first of all an attempt to transmit a radically different message to the Israeli people on the eve of the Israeli elections which will take place this Tuesday, on the 10th of February.
Like the Intergalactic Underground, the idea for the Geula Party came from voyages in the psychedelic realms. It was there, while traveling in inner (…) -
Video: A Tribute to the Peace Movement
13 February 2009 par (Open-Publishing)
A slideshow of photos, which pays tribute to all the gallant activists in the Peace Movement. They have persisted in their noble struggle to end the scourge of war, the barbaric practice of torture and the shredding of the U.S. Constitution. Their laudable objectives have been delayed, but they will not long be denied. Taking the advice of the poet, Edgar Allan Poe, in his splendid poem, “Eldorado,” they “ride, boldly ride,” in pursuit of the central dream of their hearts: a peace, with justice.

It’s Not Going to Be OK

The daily bleeding of thousands of jobs will soon turn our economic crisis into a political crisis. The street protests, strikes and riots that have rattled France, Turkey, Greece, Ukraine, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Iceland will descend on us. It is only a matter of time. And not much time. When things start to go sour, when Barack Obama is exposed as a mortal waving a sword at a tidal wave, the United States could plunge into a long period of precarious (…) -

France paralysed by a wave of strike action, the boulevards of Paris resembling a debris-strewn battlefield. The Hungarian currency sinks to its lowest level ever against the euro, as the unemployment figure rises. Greek farmers block the road into Bulgaria in protest at low prices for their produce. Icelandic police tear gas protesters

By VALUR GUNNARSSON and JILL LAWLESS
REYKJAVIK, Iceland (AP) — Police used tear gas to break up an angry protest outside Iceland’s parliament early Thursday, and two officers were hospitalized after being hit by rocks, the force said.
It was the first time the country’s police had used tear gas in more than half a century, and came as demonstrators mount increasingly violent protests against a government they blame for leading once-prosperous Iceland into economic ruin.
Demonstrators, (…) -
No Victors in the War on Dissent
8 January 2009 par (Open-Publishing)
Among the wars currently being fought by the American government is one in which there can be no winners. Our prior law enforcement experiences warn us that the “war on terrorism” has spawned an internal “war on dissent” in which everyone loses.
Author William John Cox’s law enforcement career spanned 40 years, the early part of which was spent as a Los Angeles police officer and which included direct policing of both the riots and terrorist incidents in that city in the late 60’s to (…)
