Nicaragua
Es quizás una de las imágenes más fuertes de la época del gobierno sandinista: el padre Ernesto Cardenal, arrodillado en la pista del aeropuerto de Managua, amonestado públicamente por el Papa Juan Pablo II.
Poco después, en una misa campal, se daría el que fue, probablemente, el momento más dramático en los incontables viajes del Pontífice por todo el mundo. En medio de la guerra que desangraba Nicaragua, la multitud le gritaba "Queremos la paz", mientras el Papa exigía: "¡silencio!".
El padre Cardenal, poeta, escultor, ex ministro de Cultura, sentado en su modesta oficina de Managua, rodeado de los cuadros de su comunidad de la isla de Solentiname, lo recuerda en una conversación con la BBC.
