2004 : le Forum Social Mondial aborde de nouveaux horizons !
Que de chemin parcouru depuis la mobilisation de Seattle en 1999 et le refus de laisser l’Organisation Mondiale du Commerce (OMC) décider l’avenir de la planète sans les peuples ! Depuis, les Forums Sociaux se sont multipliés. Porto Alegre, bien entendu, mais aussi Florence en 2002, Paris -Saint Denis fin 2003 et maintenant Mumbaï... Avec ce forum mondial c’est l’Asie et ses exclus qui s’inscrivent dans la recherche d’un autre (…)

Avenir prometteur, pour au moins deux orateurs...
Pour George Monbit, journaliste et activiste britannique, le pouvoir en place est a la source de ses prochains ennuis : en invitant le plus de pays possible a sieger dans les grandes instances comme l’OMC, il se retrouvera bientot face a un G20 puis a un G90... Ou encore : imaginez un peu ce qui se passera si de multiples pays decident d’un commun accord de ne plus assurer le remboursement de la dette ? Ensemble, ils pourraient bien imposer (…) -

Compte-rendu du séminaire organisé par la Friedrich Ebert Stiftung et Focus on the Global South, le 19 janvier.
Intervenant en premier, Rafael Alegria, secrétaire exécutif de Via Campesina, est revenu sur l’histoire des mobilisations contre l’OMC depuis Seattle, constatant que, depuis lors, la ligne néo-libérale de l’OMC n’a pas réussi à s’imposer. De Doha, en passant par le Sommet de la FAO à Rome, jusqu’à Cancun, les mouvements paysans ont été parmi les plus nombreux à s’organiser pour (…) -

Enfin presque fini, il reste la manif tout a lheure.
Ca va etre dur de vous resumer ces quatre jours de folie. D’abord quatre jours c’est super fatiguant : 4 heures de transport par jour, entre 9 et 11 heures de forum, la chaleur et surtout la poussiere. Je sais pas combien on etait finalement, mais 80000 personnes qui pietinnent la meme terre seche, ca fait une poussiere irrespirable. Et puis le bruit, les allees du forum sont l’occasion d’une manif permanente. Par petit groupe, (…) -
A Bombay, Coca-Cola est érigée en symbole de ces multinationales accusées de pollution

Les temps sont décidément difficiles pour Coca-Cola en Inde. La polémique sur le niveau de pesticides contenu dans les boissons qu’elle produit localement est à peine retombée que la firme se trouve au cœur d’une nouvelle campagne. OAS_AD(’Middle’) ; Et cette bataille pourrait bien devenir, pour les organisations non gouvernementales (ONG) internationales, le symbole de leur lutte contre les multinationales qui pillent et polluent, accusent-elles, les ressources en eau des communautés (…)

Après une journée passée à revendiquer un monde plus juste, Dayabai, villageoise indienne de 63 ans, quitte ses compagnons étrangers pour passer la nuit sous la tente, alors que la plupart des Occidentaux rejoignent les hôtels de Bombay. Le choc des cultures est visible au 4e Forum social mondial (FSM), rassemblement des altermondialistes qui se déroule cette année en Inde.
Sur le parvis transformé en fourmilière humaine, des artistes venus de toute l’Inde célèbrent la venue du FSM sur (…) -
