Dr Azmi Bishara, the Arab member of the Zionist parliament, along with a group of Palestinians have entered their fifth day of hunger strike protesting the Zionist separation fence in a tent pitched before the construction site of a section of that wall on the Quds-Ramallah road.

Bishara alongside a number of Palestinian political and popular figures started the strike on Saturday 3rd July, with the aim of drawing the attention of the Arab and world public opinion to the sustainable construction of the racist fence, and to the Palestinian people’s sufferings.

The forthcoming days would determine the destiny of the racist fence, he pointed out in a press statement to news agencies, referring to the long-awaited consultative opinion to be passed by the International Court of Justice in The Hague by the end of next week.

When asked whether such a strike would work out, he answered, "The strike would not halt the building of the racist fence. However, our battle is not a matter of demand, the question to be raised here whether we will succeed to turn the fence issue into a pivotal one."

Palestinian delegations and high dignitaries were still flocking into the sit-in tent to express solidarity with Bishara’s initiative, now turned into popular one.

The sit-in tent has turned into a headquarters for the anti-fence activists and national committees lobbying against it.

Sheikh Tayseer Al-Tamimi, chief judge in Palestine, and Dr. Attalla Hanna, the Orthodox Church spokesman, had arrived to the tent and joined hands with Bishara in his campaign along with hundreds of Palestinian civilians.
