In May of 2004 I attended my first Barter Faire ever, in Curlew, Washington. Sponsored by the Veterans for Peace, I arrived as far north as I had ever been in America. I came to tell the people of Eastern Washington that depleted uranium needs to be dealt with. I had a wonderful visit, met wonderful people, and made wonderful friends. Thank you, Eastern Washington, for receiving me so nicely.
A year prior to my visit, in its May issue, Environmental Magazine informed the (…)

This past Sunday, half a million people sent a message around the world that we reject the Bush administration’s policies of war, greed, hate and lies. On Thursday evening, as George Bush is making his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, exploiting the 9/11 tragedy for political gain in the most crass and cynical possible way, we must continue to (…) -

The mother of a British soldier killed in an Iraqi ambush has launched a petition for the withdrawal of UK troops as she prepares to sue the Ministry of Defence over the death of her son.
Rose Gentle, 40, whose outspoken criticism of the conflict has fuelled criticisms that her grief has been hijacked by anti-war campaigners, denied yesterday that she was being manipulated. "Let’s just make this clear," she said. "It was my decision to speak out. Nobody is using me. I was (…) -

Iraq’s leading Islamic authority, the Association of Muslim Scholars, has condemned the killing of 12 Nepalese captives.
Dr Harith al-Dhari, secretary-general of the AMS, strongly condemned the execution, describing the slain captives as "simple people" who did not deserve their fate.
"Speaking from [a] religious and humane point of view, I was the first among those calling on the kidnappers to release the hostages,"he told Aljazeera.
"We are against killing hostages, particularly if (…) -
March on the media: why we protest
1 September 2004 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsFor the past few years, the mainstream media have marched in lockstep with the Bush administration. Now it’s time to march on the media.
Whether the issue is corporate abuse, the 2000 Florida recount, the Patriot Act or post- 9/11 detentions, the mainstream media have behaved more like lapdogs than watchdogs. When the Bush administration pursued a plan to attack Iraq, the media amplified the charges of the Bush partisans and ignored or downplayed dissenting views.
And it’s important to (…) -

The use of depleted uranium weaponry by the United States, defying all international treaties, will slowly annihilate all species on earth including the human species, and yet this country continues to do so with full knowledge of its destructive potential.
by LEUREN MORET
Since 1991, the United States has staged four wars using depleted uranium weaponry, illegal under all international treaties, conventions and agreements, as well as under the US military law. The continued use of this (…) -

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.
Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared (…) -
The Cradle of Devastation
30 August 2004 par (Open-Publishing)
by Manuel Valenzuela
Gunboat soldiers of wars past and brutal, bitter at the truths spoken thirty years ago, have taken us back to bloody deltas and haunting demons, purposefully smearing one man and making an entire nation relive memories still too fragile to exorcise from the collective mind of the American people. Traversing waters of painful history so that we ignore the now toxic waterways of the Tigris and Euphrates, tools of proxy and pawns of convenience have only succeeded in (…) -
