A new kind of Nuclear War

While we were brushing our teeth this morning, or staring into the refrigerator to decide what to have for breakfast, contemplating whether to get a new ring tone for the phone, and going about yet another uneventful day in our mundane, but hopefully pleasant, existance spare a thought for what was going on during those very moments of domestic routine in a land far away both geographically and mentally.

A nuclear war is being waged - not your typical nuclear war of powerful, glowing mushroom-cloud blasts that reduce everything in their paths to blackened, flattened ruin, but a covert nuclear war using a mechanism that is just as deadly but not so obvious.

During the past few wars, starting with the Balkan wars, and the first Gulf War and on to Afghanistan and the current Iraq war, a major "improvement" to weapons has been in use. It was the tipping of munitions - bullets, shells and bombs with so-called Depleted Uranium. So-called because there is nothing really depleted about it. It is just as lethal un-depleted Uranium.

DU is a by-product of the Nuclear industry - a hitherto waste product and a problem to dispose of. Now the perfect solution was to put it to use making weapons more lethal.

This nuclear war has spread radioactive dust and refuse across the whole landscape where these munitions have been used. The immediate "benefit" of tipping weapons with DU is that it gives a multifold penetration power, hitherto not possible with regular weapons. Munitions can penetrate armour plating with ease and reduce tanks and buildings to ruin. When they explode the power is immense, causing a massive fireball that engulfs all, burning or vapourising its hapless victims without mercy.

This is the immediate horror of war - that we rarely hear about or see. (What we do see and hear about is the sanitised version.)

The aftermath of the immediate horror is the after-horror - over 1000 tonnes of DU has been deployed in the current war in Iraq. The chernobyl nuclear reactor explosion in 1986 released 700 tons of radioactive material into the atmosphere. Over 20,000 bombs (many DU tipped) were deployed in Afghanistan up to mid 2002. "The DU explosive charges in the guided bomb systems used in Afghanistan can weigh as much as one and a half metric tons - as in Raytheon’s Bunker Buster - GBU-28" (Le Monde March 2002)

This material gets into the soil, leaches into plants, rises in dust when the ground is disturbed, gets into the lungs and seeps into the skin of local populations, and the soldiers of both sides, and is carried around the world on the winds.

Children playing on and around destroyed tanks and battlefields are particularly susceptable.

"Children rather than adults may be considered to be more at risk of DU exposure when returning to normal activities within a war zone through contaminated food and water, since typical hand-to-mouth activity of inquisitive play could lead to high DU ingestion from contaminated soil." (The Laissez Faire City Times, Vol 5, No 44, October 29, 2001}

Soldiers exposed to radiation by the handling of these weapons and the dust released after they explode have been affected in large numbers.

The first Gulf War resulted in a very low official US soldier death toll and 7035 injured.

The reality is that of 580,000 soldiers who served in that war 325,000 are on permanent medical disabilty and 11,000 have subsequently died - an astonishing figure of 56% of those who served are now seriously ill with radiation related sicknesses, eupehmistically labelled "Gulf War Syndrome" by the medical and military establishments that refuse, of course, to acknowledge its true cause. Typical official explanations are dust storms, reaction to vaccines, exposure to pesticides. Other "official studies" try to further whitewash the situation by inadequate tests on military personnel who were not exposed to the dangers, and subsequently reporting "negligable or zero" levels of radiation in their urine.

Since dust storms, vaccines and pesticides are not known to cause cancers of the magnitude being experienced then the DU issue is front and centre of suspicion.

From the 2003 Iraq invasion, in one US military unit alone, eight out of twenty soldiers have developed malignancies. That is 40% have become seriously ill only 16 months after being exposed to the radiation.

Throughout Iraq (and Afghanistan) doctors are reporting frightening statistics of hitherto unseen levels of hideous birth defects, and radiation sickness related conditions in a wide cross section of the population.

For the people of Iraq the lack of adequate medical facilities, and indeed proper infrastructure of power, water and supply shortages means that any semblance of proper treatment is usually next to impossible and the situation is totally futile.

Don’t forget that during the "Sanctions" against Iraq between the two wars - it is reported that over 500,000 children died as a result of lack of medical and other supplies. A figure that former Secretary Of State, Madeline Albright said was "worth it".

For the soldier who unwittingly has been exposed to high doses of radiation, the threat is not only immediate to his or her own wellbeing but the danger is brought home. The reproductive system becomes a radioactive infection agent, passing on damaged genes to their offspring and even to their spouses.

In a group of 251 soldiers in Missouri who had produced normal babies prior to deployment to the first Gulf War, 67% of post-war babies were born with severe defects - missing arms, eyes, legs and with rare immune and blood diseases.

Marion Fulk, a nuclear physical chemist, when asked about what efffect DU contamination has upon the body explained that the effects of uranium contamination targets the DNA. This causes a multitude of medical conditions that are typically vague and far reaching - in effect the body is "trashed".

When asked if the main purpose for using DU was not only improving weapon performance but indirectly to cause maximum destruction to life, she was blunt - “I would say that it is the perfect weapon for killing lots of people.”

The first DU weapons were produced in 1968 for the US navy and early, crude versions were used by Israel against the Arabs in the Yom Kippur war of 1973. DU weapons have been subsequently sold by the US to 29 countries.
Thousands of tons of DU weapons were tested in the US between 1974 and 1999, and contamination from these tests resulted in a dramatic increase in cancers and leukemia rates of those living around the test facilities.

The military again denies any connection to DU.

A new book by Michael Collins Piper, published by American Free Press, “The High Priests of War: The Secret History of How America’s Neo-Conservative Trotskyites Came to Power and Orchestrated the War Against Iraq as the First Step in Their Drive for Global Empire,” details how the US administration neocons led by Henry Kissinger from as far back as the late 1960s had formulated plans to launch wars against the Arab world. This manifested itself into "The War Against Terror", after the 911 atrocity - which, by the way, was NOT caused by a bunch of Arabs living in caves, but that’s a different altogether more scary story.
The book delves into the creation of the neocons - by Trotsky lover Irving Kristol - whose son is currently one of the most influential men in the US.
The Israeli lobby’s neocon network has strong links with Kissinger and other notables as George Schultz, Zbignew Brzezinski, Paul Wolfowitz, Samuel S Huntington, and of course the more visible Cheney, Rumsfeld and not to forget the media contingent -for example our own Rupert Murdoch - hence the rabid support of the Iraq war on Foxnews and why you would never hear about the DU story or the true reasons for the Iraq [and onward-Christian-soldier invasions still to come] on Fox or any other mainstream network.
In Brzezinski’s book “The Grand Chessboard: American Primacy and Its Geostrategic Imperatives,” the map of the Eurasian chessboard includes four regions strategic to U.S. foreign policy. One of those regions (Afghanistan and Iraq) is currently laid waste with DU radiation.

The US, Australia and Britain went to war with Iraq based on a totally fabricated premise that Iraq possessed "Weapons Of Mass Destruction". Ironically the United Nations defines the use of Depleted Uranium as a "Weapon Of Mass Destruction".
The "coallition of the willing" are deliberately flouting a United Nations resolution which classifies Depleted Uranium munitions as illegal weapons of mass destruction.
According to an August 2002 report by the UN subcommission, laws which are breached by the use of DU shells include: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; the Charter of the United Nations; the Genocide Convention; the Convention Against Torture; the four Geneva Conventions of 1949; the Conventional Weapons Convention of 1980; and the Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907, which expressly forbid employing ’poison or poisoned weapons’ and ’arms, projectiles or materials calculated to cause unnecessary suffering’. All of these laws are designed to spare civilians from unwarranted suffering in armed conflicts.
When we have the new US Attorney-General Alberto Gonzales, the man who set the groundrules regarding what is "acceptable torture" - saying that the Geneva Conventions are "quaint" - well you get an idea of the seriousness of the problem.
Professor Doug Rokke, ex-director of the Pentagon’s depleted uranium project — a former professor of environmental science at Jacksonville University and onetime US army colonel who was tasked by the US department of defence with the post-first Gulf war depleted uranium desert clean-up — said use of DU was a ’war crime’.
Rokke said: ’...This war was about Iraq possessing illegal weapons of mass destruction — yet we are using weapons of mass destruction ourselves - such double-standards are repellent.’
Rokke added: ’A nation’s military personnel cannot wilfully contaminate any other nation, cause harm to persons and the environment and then ignore the consequences of their actions.
To do so is a crime against humanity.
It is equivalent to a war crime.’
Not only is it a War Crime, it is a War Crime in four ways.
Karen Parker JD, famous UN War Crimes and humanitarian lawyer stated "My ’four-point’ test is this:
"It spreads" (beyond the field of battle);
"it lasts" (can’t be turned off when the war ends);
"it injures people in impermissible ways" (as in making an as yet unborn child deformed); and
"it harms the environment".

Since the one and only time "real" nuclear weapons were used - Hiroshima and Nagasaki world opinion has not been favourable for the use of such destructive weapons - the Ultimate WMD.

Uranium-tipped bombs, shells and bullets are just different forms of slow-acting, nuclear weapons by stealth. They are slower than the instant big boom and flash of Nagasaki type Nuclear Weapons. Now we are using the next generation of nuclear weapons on the hapless civilians of Iraq - and our own soldiers, indeed the whole world, is going to pay a heavy price. Uranium weapons spread deadly radioactivity that kills and contaminates forever.

Japanese professor, Dr. K. Yagasaki, has calculated that 800 tons of DU is the atomicity equivalent of 83,000 Nagasaki bombs. The U.S. has used more DU since 1991 than the atomicity equivalent of 400,000 Nagasaki bombs. 10 times the amount of radiation released into the atmosphere from atmospheric testing!

In June 2003, the World Health Organization announced in a press release that global cancer rates will increase 50 percent by 2020.

So when you are filling up tomorrow’s breakfast dish with cereal - spare a sobering thought that those flakes of corn could be contaminated by an invisible danger - but even if they are not, rest assured that hundreds of thousands of people are.

      Americans in general should feel very upset about all of this. So why is this not happening?

      It is quite clear that the people that would bring about this type of stealthed mass murder would also know of and/or allow the occurrence of the events surrounding 9-11. They are the same people that will bring about the next 9-11 to bring on the official draft for a war with Iran.

      Bush needs to be impeached, but is there anyone who has the guts to go up against him and his accomplissess? It seems they have threatened everyone who has dared to step forward! Who out there has the courage to step in and get it done? I hate to see anymore blood-shed in the name of greed. These power hungry neocons have got to be stopped! It makes me sick to think of all of the children who have lost their lives before they ever had the chance to experience any kind of joy. The sad thing is that most people don’t have a clue of what is really going on because they have been lulled to sleep by the mainstream media that is controlled by the very ones doing all of the harm. Peace needs to be declared and we need to bring every last soldier home!

    • One thing Americans should keep in mind very vivid is that pain they have caused to the rest of humanity is kept alive in the hearts of billions of people, those able to talk about it publicly and those lamenting in silence. it will only be a day when all these wounded heart will rise up together strongly to claim justice against the Americans and the British. I believe so much in the dialectics of Hegel that at each era one nation may rise up and be stronger than any other but again another era another nation will rise up again and we have already seen some feel countries that are emerging now even when you can turn a blind eye to this this time is coming.     The Geneva convention bans ABC weapons!
    A rougue state like the U.S. uses them widely. There is evidence that mustard gas has been used in Fallujah Iraq!

  • If you complain about this and try to educate others about it, you are a "terrorist", "un-American" or what have you. Quite simply, the United States government, with Zionist coaching, is trying to make Americans a bunch of zombie killing machines with little or no regard for human life. There are many of our troops(which many supposedly "patriotic" Americans plead with us to support) I am sure that take some sort of pleasure and thrill in killing innocent defenseless people. Our very culture has been grossly infected with violence and the acceptance of it in achieving certain aims. DU disease may be the "what" that goes around and then comes around to finally wake up the sleeping American masses!

  • DU munitions are not tipped or coated. This misconception must stop. The entire round is uranium plus other radioactive contaminates. It is imperative that all DU contaminaruion be cleaned up and that medical care be given to all casualties.     Depleted Uranium Situation Requires Action

    While U.S. and British military personnel continue using uranium munitions-
    America’s and England’s own "dirty bombs" U.S. Army, U.S. Department
    of Energy, and U.S. Department of Defense officials continue to deny that there are any adverse health and environmental effects as a consequence of the manufacture, testing, and/or use of uranium munitions to avoid liability for the willful and illegal dispersal of a radioactive toxic material - depleted uranium. They arrogantly refuse to comply with their own regulations, orders, and directives that require United States Department of Defense officials to provide prompt and effective medical care "all" exposed individuals [Medical Management of Unusual Depleted Uranium Casualties, DOD, Pentagon, 10/14/93, Medical Management of Army personnel Exposed to Depleted Uranium (DU) Headquarters, U.S. Army Medical Command 29 April 2004), and section 2-5 of AR 70-48]. They also refuse to clean up dispersed radioactive Contamination as required by Army Regulation- AR 700-48: "Management of Equipment Contaminated With Depleted Uranium or Radioactive Commodities" (Headquarters, Department Of The Army, Washington, D.C., September 2002) and U.S. Army Technical Bulletin- TB 9-1300-278: "Guidelines For Safe Response To Handling, Storage, And Transportation Accidents Involving Army Tank Munitions Or Armor Which Contain Depleted Uranium" (Headquarters, Department Of The Army, Washington, D.C., JULY 1996).

    Specifically section 2-4 of United States Army Regulation-AR 700-48 dated September 16, 2002 requires that:
    (1) “Military personnel "identify, segregate, isolate, secure, and label all RCE" (radiologically contaminated equipment).
    (2) "Procedures to minimize the spread of radioactivity will be implemented as soon as possible."
    (3) "Radioactive material and waste will not be locally disposed of through burial, submersion, incineration, destruction in place, or abandonment" and
    (4) "All equipment, to include captured or combat RCE, will be surveyed, packaged, retrograded, decontaminated and released IAW Technical Bulletin 9-1300-278, DA PAM 700-48" (Note: Maximum exposure limits are specified in Appendix F).

    The past and current use of uranium weapons, the release of radioactive components in destroyed U.S. and foreign military equipment, and releases of industrial, medical, research facility radioactive materials have resulted in unacceptable exposures. Therefore, decontamination must be completed as required by U.S. Army Regulation 700-48 and should include releases of all radioactive materials resulting from military operations. The extent of adverse health and environmental effects of uranium weapons
    contamination is not limited to combat zones but includes facilities and sites where uranium weapons were manufactured or tested including Vieques, Puerto Rico, Colonie, New York, and Jefferson Proving Grounds, Indiana. Therefore medical care must be provided by the United States Department of Defense officials to all individuals affected by the manufacturing, testing, and/or use of uranium munitions. Thorough environmental remediation also must be completed without further delay. I am amazed that fourteen years after was asked to clean up the initial DU mess from Gulf War 1 and almost ten years since I finished the depleted uranium project that United States Department of Defense officials and mauy others still attempt to justify uranium munitions use while ignoring mandatory requirements. But beyond the ignored mandatory actions that the willful dispersal of tons of solid radioactive and chemically toxic waste in the form of uranium munitions just does not even pass the common sense test. Finally continued compliance with the infamous March 1991 Los Alamos Memorandum (http://www.tv.cbc.ca/national/pgminfo/du/doc1.html) that was issued to ensure continued use of uranium munitions can not be justified.

    In conclusion: the President of the United States- George W. Bush and
    The Prime Minister of Great Britain-Tony Blair must acknowledge and accept
    responsibility for willful use of illegal uranium munitions- their own
    "dirty bombs"- resulting in adverse health and environmental effects.
    President Bush and Prime Minister Blair also should order:
    1. medical care for all casualties,
    2. thorough environmental remediation,
    3. immediate cessation of retaliation against all of us who demand compliance with medical care and environmental remediation requirements,
    4. and ban the future use of depleted uranium munitions.

All of these uses are designed to reduce the huge U.S. Department of Energy stockpiles left over from the uranium enrichment process.

    It is important to realize that DU penetrators are solid uranium 238. THEY ARE NOT TIPPED OR COATED! During an impact at least 40 % of the penetrator forms uranium oxides or fragments which are left on the terrain, within or on impacted equipment, or within impacted structures.

    The remainder of the penetrator retains its initial shape. Thus we are left with a solid piece of uranium lying someplace which can be picked up by children. DU also ignites in the air during flight and upon impact. The resulting shower of burning DU and DU fragments causes secondary explosions, fires, injury, and death.

    All individuals must ask if they would want tons solid uranium penetrators lying in their backyard? Does anyone want any radioactive contamination of any type lying in their backyard? The answer is simple- NO ONE!

  • It’s a lot worse than you think. I thought I knew how bad DU was until I saw some articles in The Lone Star Iconoclast (published in Crawford, Tx. where a pretend president pretended to work on his pretend ranch while ignoring very real warnings about 9/11). Take a look at my blog entry to see just how bad this is.

    One of the Iconoclast articles uses the word "omnicide" to describe what Bush is doing with DU. The death of all life everywhere on the planet. It doesn’t get any worse than that...

  • I completly disagree with this post and the silly people who posted absured comments.
    Using DU in weaponary is a good thing, it enables the solder to shoot through objects in the way of the enemy and end the volence as quickly as possible why can you see that, DU is safe and reliable, once used it is safely blown away into the nearst see were it will fall to the sea bed, other wise DU safely goes into deep earth through natural process of nature.

    Stop this stupid articles and go and sign up to fight in the iraq war to keep us all safe from terorists.

      The terrorists, Mark, are running the USA and using these weapons on us all—since the DU travels worldwide on wind currents.

      All nuclear materials regardless of your distractive claim of "wow, how good they are for doing what they are doing" are illegal under the Geneva Convensions. Mark, you support war crimes and pre-emptive war on areas of the world that never threatened you. How did you get fooled into doing that? First of all, it’s not your responsibilty that you were are lied to and frighened, though it is your responsibility to wake up and realize the iraq = 9-11 fear you seem to keep perpetuating is and was a total hoax from the start.       I hope you understand that cognitive dissonance is a good thing when all you seem to regurgitate in your comment is Bush Admin. lies—which have been proven as total lies (i.e., Downing Street Memo plots on creating a media context favorable for illegal pre-emptive warfare, showing Bush schemed for attacking Iraq without Congressional authorization for war, etc.).

I cannot fathom how someone could use the phrase " natural process " when refering to depleted uranium rounds. I fail to recognize any semblance of compassion or intelligence in your comments. You need help " truth seeker " , I for one would like to see your kind face down in the desert inhaling that dust. Unfortunately the truth will be self evident to our children and theirs for billions of years.

  • Alright already, everyone who has taken the time to read this and similar material has three choices. 1) Ignore the evidence and follow the puppetmasters and their puppets. 2) Spread the truth and use the current laws to impeach most of the US government. Or 3) Use the rule of the land as it was intended and remove the corruption entirely to be replaced as it was written that it should be - READ the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights "FOR YOURSELF" and you will get a better idea of just how bad it is right now.

    I will warn you right now, they will not sit by peacefully for any of the three options, but at least two of them will show SOME results. Sept 11 "2.0" is being planned and or finalized right now so that the draft can be put into place.

    I personally don’t have to worry about the draft since I am already in, but posts like this one could potentially put me in jail. Don’t heckle me for signing up, my awakening was long after I signed my freedom away. If you think that being in the military has benefits, HA! I am told how much to weigh and when and how to work out, if I can or can’t work a second job, that I can’t claim food stamps even though I am well below poverty level with three kids, the free medical care is affectionately known and medical UNcaring (and much, much worse). The job I trained for makes 5 times more on the outside on average, and I could potentially bump that up to 8 times just for personal skill and work ethic. The worst part about it is that even WHEN I get out I can be pulled back involuntary AT ANY TIME as long as I have use of my limbs and eyesight. Gotta love THOSE benefits.

    • Thanks for the info. I MIGHT be able to prove that my mental health is not in line with military standards, the other options are not feasible for me.

      After having given more thought to my three options listed above, none of them would truly work. The black ops groups "that don’t exist" would restore order from any attempt to impeach their head or coup so fast that the bodies of those responsible would be scattered among the next "terrorist" attack. It is a sad day when true patriots in the original sense are more afraid of their own "elected" officials than drugs or gangs. The only shot we had at holding onto our country was deeply wounded in Waco and finished off in OKC, and with the current enforcement of the (UN)Patriot Act any attempt to form a solid militia group would result in arrest (ala Waco) as "terrorists."

    • I’m wondering where Depleted Uranium (DU) used in Iraq for hardening shell casings originates. Is it the U-238 isotope discarded as tailings during the enrichment process to increase the U-235 content?

      Or does it have a component from the spent fuel from power stations?

      Also, how does the DU from exploded shells contaminate human bodies? Is it aplpha emitting particles ingested then retained in the cells, or is it gamma radiation from the contamination on the land?

      When shells are described as vaporising on impact does this mean the DU metal turns into ’vapour’ or does it mean it is exploded into fine particles resembling dust?

      And, if the data is true, the cause of explosion is due to not only depleted uranium, but also another reasons.
      For example, do you know the fire disaster depend on destroyed oil field, and how many tar or another chemical poisons ware spread to the field of Iraq?

      I am Lieutenant in the french Army (DGSE) and I was 1992/1993 in Iraq and the birth defects and cancers are 100% result of DU ammunition.

      It’s very interesting. Please see me or tell me where is the "photos" in the net. I haven’t heard before that satellite photos can catch radio-active contamination.

      I’m very sorry and very unfortunately. But you must think more and make your efforts to know the truth. For example, there may be another reasons of "the birth defects", and, this is very important, there may be many lies for anti-American propaganda, like "Mississippi" babies.

  • The use of Depleted Uranium in Iraq is nothing short of a crime against Humanity. Usa and Britain should be ashamed. I am English and i am appauled at what is happening. It has not only been used in Iraq and with a half life of 4.5 billion years lives are going to be ruined over and over again. Unlike normal ammo that kills once this stuff kills happily forever without having to reload once the fighting has stopped and does not care who’s side you are on either. The killers become the killed. Iraq is going to be infected and it is the young who will suffer the most. Was this justice for 9/11? did this stop the terror?

    Of course not. The home of world terrorism is in the white house and 10 downing street. For years the united states has acted like a schoolyard bully attacking or making sanctions on any country that makes what they call weapons of mass destruction because they cant be trusted to not use them. Yet they are happy to infect the world for all time and have a massive arsenal.

    Al qeada is either a myth or a justified cause when you consider all the evidence. Whether 9/11 was an inside job or not can be argued. There is so much evidence to support both sides. What cant be supported is the continued use of this stuff that will cause untold misery to the world for lifetimes to come and may never be neutralised.

    Bush and Blair should be impeached. Brought before a war crimes tribunal and all depleted uranium shells should be disposed of safely. They can’t make weapons out of nuclear waste simply cause they cant find anything better to do with it.
