Home > Saudi Arabian Kobar hostage rescue - Al Qaeda - Why ?
’Most of the hostages (reportedly dozens), have been freed’ The Saudi authorities claim to have killed or captured all of the perpetrators. Saudi sources state that it is believed that the men were linked to al-Qaeda
One thing al-Qaeda isn’t is stupid. It is very dangerous to consider them as some band of wildcat maverick fundamentalists. Quite apart from the fact that ’al-Qaeda’ is more a philosophy than an organisation and that acts committed in its name (or attributed to it), are usually the work of myriad groups who subscribe to that philosophy, the ’senseless violence’ carried out is anything but senseless. Each operation is a message and it may being directed at a single or multiple audience.
Operatives do not have to sport bushy beards or match the identikit fundamentalist specification. They are permitted, when on ’active service’, to adopt subterfuges such as wearing Western style dress, cologne and gold jewellery. They are permitted to drink alcohol, smoke tobacco, have sexual relations with infidel women and frequent clubs, bars, strip joints and casinos. While prayer is still very important to them they are encouraged to keep a distance from pious Muslims and places of worship. In other words, they do not ’stand out’.
On this occasion the persons who committed the Saudi attacks were dressed in some kind of military uniform. As they moved through the accommodation complex they sought to separate Muslims from the people they took hostage. One woman was reportedly told to leave, return to the Lebanon, become a better Muslima and cease wearing Western dress.
What was the purpose of the operation? What is the message? Who is it aimed at?
The operation seems to have been quite simply one of killing ’infidels’. First they were killed at a number of locations on the streets, then they were attacked in their own residence. At this juncture no information is available to suggest that any demands were made when hostages were taken. Some reports suggest that the attackers laid explosives in certain areas of the residential complex. The killings and subsequent siege generated plenty of publicity, a prerequisite of any such operation. Infidels died, Muslims were spared. It has to be presumed that the attackers knew that their own lives would be forfeit and their being heavily armed suggests that their intention was to cause as much damage as possible before their own deaths.
What’s the message? That this is what ’infidels’ can expect in Saudi. On the streets, in their homes, they can be hit with relative ease. The conflict is not against Muslims but kuffars, and young men are prepared to give their lives to cleanse Saudi of infidels.
Who is the message for? Apart from the oil workers? And their families abroad? And us? Well, there’s a message for Bush and Co. There’s a message for Wall street. There’s a message to the Saudi people and another to the Sauds, their 20,000 princelings and their American armed security forces. And it isn’t a suicide note - these guys don’t see what they’re doing as in any way negative and they know that their deaths don’t mark the end of things.
It may well fade from the news in a day or so, but don’t for one moment doubt that the various messages sent by this incident will be transmitted again and again until all the target audiences have tuned in and reacted accordingly. And you can bet your SUV that al-Qaeda has already worked out its own response to whatever moves are made.
Random, senseless terrorism? Don’t you believe it. Thinking that way is what has brought America to the state it’s in, flailing about like a blind man, killing thousands and in the process creating millions of opponents. The West is looting the Middle East and the natives don’t like it. There, it’s not so hard to work out is it?
