    Record numbers took to the streets of France yesterday in the biggest demonstrations since Nicolas Sarkozy’s election, to protest about his handling of the economic crisis.
    Unions estimated that more than three million people took part in demonstrations across the country, in the second general strike over the economic crisis in two months. Police put figures at about 1.2 million. With one in three people supporting the protest, it had the highest public backing for a strike in a decade. (…)

    Martinique strike turns violent, mayor urges calm
    A general strike in the French Caribbean island of Martinique turned violent on Friday as protesters clashed with business owners who organized their own peaceful protest.
    Hundreds of police launched tear gas as protesters threw rocks and bottles and set cars and garbage bins on fire.
    Martinique’s prefect, Ange Mancini, said four police officers were slightly injured. He asked residents to remain indoors.

    Undeclared curfew and general strike threw normal life completely out of gear across the Kashmir Valley today.

    SRINAGAR, Oct 27:
    Shops, businesses, schools and government offices remained closed as people across occupied Kashmir observed a general strike on Monday to mark the anniversary of the day Indian troops took control of the region in 1947.
    Thousands of Indian soldiers in riot gear patrolled deserted streets of Srinagar and prohibited any gathering of more than five people, said a police officer.

    Solidarity is proud to offer our 100% support to the oil refinery workers at Grangemouth.
    For the “crime” of refusing to accept the tearing up of their pension scheme they have been vilified by the Ineos management and sections of the press in Scotland. In a disgusting campaign the oil workers have been accused of “holding the country to ransom” and of being “hell bent on strike action.”

    U.K. Teachers’ Pay Strike Closes Thousands of Schools

    April 24 (Bloomberg) — Thousands of schools across England and Wales are closed today as the U.K.’s biggest teaching union stages a one-day strike over pay, the first in 21 years.
    The National Union of Teachers, which represents almost 200,000 of the 435,000 teachers in England and Wales, called the strike after the government offered a pay rise of 2.45 percent, which the union says is below the rate of inflation. (…)

    Since 1993, the Pensions are attacked by capitalists. The workers of private sector had to give 40 years of dues instead of 37,5 years since 1993 and retirement at 60. In 1995, the governement tried to attack railways workers retires. He also wanted to close 6 000 km of railways. These two attacks were fighted by railways workers by a victorious strike of 3 weeks. We obtain a delay of 12 years before the new attack of this year.

    Germans faced the prospect of summer holiday chaos yesterday as train drivers voted for an unlimited nationwide strike. It seems set to be the worst rail strike in 15 years and, along with a threat of industrial action by airline pilots, could bring the country to a standstill.

    Taxi and bus drivers are staging a strike in the northern city of Mosul over fuel shortages.
