Just a month ago, during a football game on October 1, University of Oklahoma student Joel Hinrichs detonated a bomb on a bench not far from the west stadium gate and killed himself. The bench was right adjacent to a sidewalk, and the bomb exploded three minutes before half-time. Police confirmed that two days earlier he had attempted to buy ammonium nitrate, and that other explosives were found in his apartment when they (…)

Bird flu panic spreads-among the beneficiaries: Donald Rumsfeld.
3 November 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
3 commentsA year ago Tamiflu was known, if at all, as an obscure remedy for influenza, which doctors typically treat with bed rest and chicken soup. Today, with panic mounting over a potential bird flu pandemic, it’s the most sought-after drug in the world, as everyone from suburban soccer moms in the U.S. to health officials in London and Taipei scramble to stockpile the pill. At the moment, it seems, virtually the entire world is on sick-chicken alert.

In the Name of Justice

Kevin Benderman sits in jail. An injustice. He did not want to go. He did not take his stand, break a law and dare the courts to put him in jail with a stiff sentence. Kevin Benderman put his principles on the line and dared to trust that his rights would be respected as the constitution he fought to defend demands.
Kevin Benderman did everything he could to demonstrate to the military, and to the world, that he did not want to go to jail, by consistently (…) -

NEW YORK (Fortune) - The prospect of a bird flu outbreak may be panicking people around the globe, but it’s proving to be very good news for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other politically connected investors in Gilead Sciences, the California biotech company that owns the rights to Tamiflu, the influenza remedy that’s now the most-sought after drug in the world.
Rumsfeld served as Gilead (Research)’s chairman from 1997 until he joined the Bush (…) -

"The Watergate crisis represents a conflict in the American establishment brought on by the Indochina War, giving the peace movement its best chance yet to finally end U.S. involvement..."
So concluded "A Strategy To End the War", a working paper of the Indochina Peace Campaign, in 1974. The IPC was a network in key states which carried out public education and pressured Congress from the grass roots (…) -
What the ’Shield’ Covered Up

Has anyone noticed that the coverup worked?
In his impressive presentation of the indictment of Lewis "Scooter" Libby last week, Patrick Fitzgerald expressed the wish that witnesses had testified when subpoenas were issued in August 2004, and "we would have been here in October 2004 instead of October 2005."
Note the significance of the two dates: October 2004, before President Bush was reelected, and October 2005, after the president was reelected. Those dates make (…) -

Anti-US protesters are planning a mass demonstration against President George W. Bush’s visit to Argentina this week for the Summit of the Americas in the seaside resort of Mar del Plata.
Luis D’Elía, who heads one of the country’s so-called piquetero movements - leftwing groups of disaffected unemployed - said the protest would bring together up to 100,000 people and would include popular figures such as Diego Maradona, the former Argentine soccer star.

Bush, Congress Turn a Cold Shoulder To America’s Poor This Winter
3 November 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
by Brian McAfee
President Bush and Congress nixed winter heating aid for poor families 3 months after subsidizing oil companies. Energy Secretary Sam Bodman said "this is not something I would be in favor of (using some of the oil profits to help the nations poor). That would be the equivalent of windfall profits tax" Bodman went on to say that any transfer of oil profits to programs to help the poor with heating this winter is not even under consideration.
