A lawsuit filed today against U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld reveals the gratuitous cruelty inflicted on a foreign student held without charges for more than two years as an "enemy combatant" in a South Carolina naval brig, Human Rights Watch said. Although three men have been confined in the United States after being (…) -
McKinney and Others Blast the Atlanta Journal Over ’9/11 Conspiracy’ Comments
10 August 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
3 commentsTwo weeks ago I mentioned the AJC’s article on the recent 9/11 hearing hosted by Cynthia McKinney. I have seen sections of the hearing as well as listened to it live, and the term ’conspiracy theory’ being mentioned in the AJC’s article did strike a cord with me. At this point I am always somewhat happy to see any mention of 9/11 questions by the mainstream media, and seeing as how the AJC was the only mainstream news source to even mention the event I couldn’t hate them too much (although (…)

How Building a Saudi City Made a Lefty Out of Dick Underhill, VFP

Back in the 60s you could say two things about Navy and Air Force veteran Dick Underhill: he liked to do the work that nobody else wanted to do, and he was a Goldwater Republican. Today as Underhill shuttles in and out of Crawford, Texas, running supplies and tending to lists of things to do in support of Cindy Sheehan, you could still say he likes to do the work that nobody else wants to do, but you couldn’t call him a Goldwater Republican anymore.

Important new details of the U.S.-Israeli espionage case involving Larry Franklin, the alleged Pentagon spy, two officials of the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee, and an intelligence official at the Embassy of Israel emerged last week. Two AIPAC officials-who have left the organization-were indicted along with Franklin on charges of "communicat[ing] national defense information to persons not entitled to receive it." In plain English, if not legal-speak, that (…) -
Cindy Sheehan threatened with arrest: Freedom to Assemble under threat
10 August 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentCan you believe Bush? He hasn’t attended a single funeral of the 1838 soldiers reported as killed in action, 20 dead in two days last week, 9 more today- they’re dead because he lied, and now he’s on vacation! And if that’s not bad enough, now he wants to arrest Cindy Sheehan on the grounds that she’s a threat.
Whatever happened to the First Amendment- the FREEDOM to Peaceably Assemble? According to Bush- that is no longer our right. After 9/11 they had to take away that freedom to (…) -
A Look Into the Mirror By Manuel Valenzuela
10 August 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
3 commentsThrough the veneer that is Washington, with its grand monuments to great men, its hallowed halls of history, its monolithic structures of governance, its corridors of power, its seats of wealth and effervescent illumination as the reincarnation of ancient Rome, can we, if we dare look upon the vision emanating from its shallow pools, see the manifestation of what America, and by consequence Americans, has become. To see inside the capital of modern day Democracy, Freedom, Liberty, Manifest (…)
