READING BETWEEN THE LINES What the U.S. has in store for Iran By Lance Selfa | Janury 28, 2005 |
A FEW hours before President George Bush gave his inauguration address promising to rid the world of tyranny, Vice President Dick Cheney made a few comments that tell more about where the administration is heading.
Yukking it up with right-wing talk show host Don Imus on MSNBC, Cheney placed Iran at the “top of the list” of “potential trouble spots” that the Bush administration was determined (…)

No, honestly, its not an occupation...
27 January 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsTHE BUSH administration and its media cheerleaders will declare the “dawning of democracy” in Iraq no matter what happens on January 30. They hope that enough Iraqis manage to cast ballots that the results lend legitimacy to the U.S. occupation of Iraq.
But the elections on January 30 have nothing whatsoever to do with democracy.
U.S. generals claim that the residents of only four of Iraq’s 18 provinces may not be able to “fully participate” in the voting. “Good news,” wrote antiwar (…) -

Officer Threatens To Arrest Woman For Anti-Bush Sticker
January 25, 2005
DENVER — Some people are angry when they see Shasta Bates’ derogatory bumper sticker about President George W. Bush — but she didn’t think she’d be threatened with arrest because of it.
The Denver Police Department is investigating a sergeant who allegedly threatened to arrest the 26-year-old for displaying the bumper sticker.
Bates said she was told by the sergeant (…) -
No Comparison?
27 January 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
No Comparison? January 24th, 2005 : Filed by A! This so-called ill treatment and torture in detention centers, stories of which were spread everywhere among the people, and later by the prisoners who were freed... were not, as some assumed, inflicted methodically, but were excesses committed by individual prison guards, their deputies, and men who laid violent hands on the detainees. Can anyone tell me who said that? Was it:
A) George W. Bush B) John Ashcroft C) Donald Rumsfeld D) (…) -

1 commentTurner Compares Fox’s Popularity To Hitler Jim Finkle - Broadcasting & Cable 1/25/2005 Ted Turner called Fox a propaganda tool of the Bush administration and indirectly compared Fox News Channel’s popularity to Adolf Hitler’s popular election to run Germany before World War II.

The 66-year-old (…) -
9/11 Truth Movement Only Just Beginning
26 January 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentSelf-appointed leaders of the 9/11 truth movement have come out in recent days to deliver a simple message.
Lay down. Submit. Give up. There’s nothing you can do about it.
We’ve been told to believe that there’s no possibility anyone in authority connected with the 9/11 attacks will ever be brought to justice.
Elsewhere we’ve seen prominent Internet columnists completely giving up the ghost, stating that the evil that controls the planet will never be defeated and that they’d rather (…) -
White Rice Confirmation
26 January 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
6 commentsSenators, those of you voting to approve Condo (White) Rice will be voting for an Oreo, and signing your own death warrants. How sad for all of us.
Also, Senators, won’t you feel tortured if you vote to confirm Gonzales as Attorney General? -
US Foreign Policy (apart from Iraq)
26 January 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
3 commentsUS Political and Military Interventions since 1945 The US has launched a series of military and political interventions since 1945, often to install puppet regimes, or alternatively to engage in political actions such as smear campaigns, sponsoring or targeting opposition political groups (depending on how they served US interests), undermining political parties, sabotage and terror campaigns, and so forth. It has done so in nations such as
China (1945-51) South Africa (1960s-1980s) (…) -
Senator Dayton denounces Rice and US policy in Iraq
26 January 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
3 commentsI don’t like to impugn anyone’s integrity, but I really don’t like being lied to repeatedly, flagrantly, intentionally. It’s wrong. It’s undemocratic, it’s un-American, and it’s dangerous. It is very, very dangerous. And it is occurring far too frequently in this administration. And this Congress, this Senate must demand that it stop now.
My vote against this nomination is my statement that this administration’s lying must stop now. I urge my colleagues to join me in this demand, (…) -
Few Penalties for Soldiers that have admitted abuse of Iraqis
26 January 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
Army personnel have admitted to beating or threatening to kill Iraqi detainees and stealing money from Iraqi civilians but have not been charged with criminal conduct, according to newly released Army documents.
Only a handful of the 54 investigations of alleged detainee abuse and other illicit activities detailed in the documents led to recommended penalties as severe as a court-martial or discharge from military service. Most led to administrative fines or simply withered because (…)
