We have reasons and the power to impeach Bush

A letter to the editor

Dear Editor: A year ago in our community, there was a sense of resignation, hopelessness and frustration when impeachment of President Bush was discussed. "How I wish we could do that, but it is impossible, Republicans are in control of everything" and "It can never happen - why bother?" were standard exhortations.

NOW it can happen! Most importantly, now, it must happen for the sake of our democracy.

Most of us know that the president has lied to us and to Congress. Most of us understand that he manipulated intelligence and gave false reports to Congress on the reasons for invading Iraq. Most of us recognize that his propaganda was full of trickery and lies. Most of us recognize his abuse of presidential authority and power.

There are more than sufficient grounds to begin the inquiry.

So let us start the New Year by bringing order to our house. Let us advocate for the impeachment of Bush. The process will make us stronger and help us find solutions to our many problems.

More important, the impeachment process will finally hold those in power accountable to those they govern.
