"We feel right now that we have, as I mentioned, broken the back of the insurgency."
Marine Lt. Gen. John F. Sattler, Nov. 18, after offensive against Fallujah
CHICAGO - Could it be that we’ve misclassified the insurgency in Iraq - that it’s an invertebrate, able to absorb bone-crushing blows because it has no bones to crush? It seems to be more like a dandelion, which, when smashed, only spreads more seeds.
Seven months after U.S. forces leveled the enemy stronghold, the insurgents (…)

Galloway Calls a Spade a Spade
18 May 2005One Scotsman, Calls a Spade a Spade
by James Glaser May 18, 2005
British MP George Galloway was called on the carpet by a United States Senate Investigative Committee and he shocked them by showing up and defending himself.
Senator Norm Coleman, Republican Chairman of the committee had accused Galloway of making money off the Iraqi oil-for-food program and Galloway was more than Coleman ever expected.
Galloway, "I told the world that Iraq, contrary to your claims did not have weapons (…) -
Former Reagan Official: Only Way to Restore America’s Credibility is Impeachment
18 May 2005George W. Bush and his gang of neocon warmongers have destroyed America’s reputation. It is likely to stay destroyed, because at this point the only way to restore America’s reputation would be to impeach and convict President Bush for intentionally deceiving Congress and the American people in order to start a war of aggression against a country that posed no threat to the US. America can redeem itself only by holding Bush accountable.
As intent as Republicans were to impeach President (…) -
UNITY CALL TO THE ANTI-WAR MOVEMENT FROM TROOPS OUT NOW COALITION
18 May 2005The Troops Out Now Coalition (TONC) wholeheartedly and unreservedly joins the activists and groups who are calling for a united mobilization against the war in the fall. The absence of such unity amongst the anti-war coalitions only serves to demoralize rank and file anti-war activists and local forces across the country. The grassroots of the movement are looking to those of us who make decisions to put our differences aside in the interests of the struggle to get the U.S. the hell out of (…)

Newsweek apology? How about White House retraction of WMD?
18 May 2005What a joke, the White House carrying on about Newsweek. I’d say Newsweek should retract any article only when the White House admits there were no weapons of mass destruction, apologizes to all Iraqis and Americans, brings American troops home and allows the UN to do what it was originally formed to do, namely protect the vulnerable and to establish and keep the peace.
Maybe I’m confusing facts with the issues, and the use of reason has no place in this country anymore, but I just can’t (…) -
A spring morning in the autumn of America
18 May 2005‘Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone’
By John Kaminski skylax@comcast.net
Mornings on my porch these days are exquisite. I pry myself from my bed and shuffle out into paradise in this (what I call) cool Florida spring. Every day starts out at 70 degrees. Sun flashes through the dense foliage, creating lush shadows and undulating sunbeams flecked with shimmering dust motes. The mockingbird symphony (somewhere between Vaughn Williams and Wagner, I (…) -
An Open Letter To The Mainstream Media
18 May 2005Dear Mainstream Media,
Hello. I am the Plaid Adder. I am one of those people who posts stuff on the internet under an assumed name. Unlike "Jeff Gannon," however, I am not under the mistaken impression that I am a real journalist. I am a lunatic with internet access. I’ve always been ready to admit that. And it’s because I don’t work for a ’legitimate,’ branded, American media outlet that it drives me absolutely fucking NUTS to see you people CAVE to this bullshit administration!
I meant (…) -
UK’s Galloway puts US Senators to Shame: Delivers passionate speech exposing the real corruption
17 May 2005George Galloway had vowed to give US senators "both barrels" and after sitting - coiled - through an hour-and-half of testimony against him, he unloaded all his ammunition.
Far from displaying the forelock-tugging deference to which senators are accustomed, Mr Galloway went on the attack.
He rubbished committee chairman Norm Coleman’s dossier of evidence and stared him in the eye.
"Now I know that standards have slipped over the last few years in Washington, but for a lawyer, you are (…) -
US ’backed illegal Iraqi oil deals’
17 May 2005Report claims blind eye was turned to sanctions busting by American firms
Julian Borger and Jamie Wilson in Washington Tuesday May 17, 2005 The Guardian
The United States administration turned a blind eye to extensive sanctions-busting in the prewar sale of Iraqi oil, according to a new Senate investigation.
A report released last night by Democratic staff on a Senate investigations committee presents documentary evidence that the Bush administration was made aware of illegal oil sales (…) -
The American News Media - Tools and Fools and Scapegoats
17 May 2005The shepherd always tries to persuade the sheep that their interests and his own are the same. Marie Beyle
The media must have been flipping out recently. Terri Schiavo was gone, Scott Peterson was in jail, Martha Stewart was out of jail and Michael Jackson could only make news when he showed up for court in his jammies. My gawd! What are we gonna report on?
“Well, the President’s numbers are way down.”
“Uh-huh...what else ya got?”
“Um, the insurgency in Iraq is getting (…)
