The Death of the Bill of Rights in America (Part II)
28 October 2004(Part I)
by David R. Hoffman
Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence, once said: "When the people are afraid of the government, that’s tyranny. But when the government is afraid of the people, that’s liberty."
To minimize the possibility of this tyranny developing, and to ensure the inviolability of certain fundamental rights and freedoms, America’s founding fathers created the Bill of Rights to serve as a "check-and-balance" between the government and the (…) -
Kerry’s Entangling Alliances
28 October 2004Americans who oppose the war in Iraq find it easy to hold President Bush in contempt - as they should, considering his deceptive and disastrous wars that have killed thousands. What’s harder is finding much to like in John Kerry. Most antiwar American voters will probably pull the lever for Kerry - or, more accurately, against Bush - but we must all come to terms with the fact that Kerry is a hawk, and a very dangerous one.
Kerry never tires of pointing out that Bush didn’t wage his (…) -

What is there really to say?
Other than to straight up hand it to Eminem, Dr. Dre, Ian Inaba, Anson Vogt, Kevin Elam and Thomas Brohdal and everyone else who had a hand in the making of this video?
Watching this video is one of those experiences that just changes you. Mosh has a transformative power. Like, before I clicked on my computer this morning and downloaded the thing....well, I thought and felt one (…) -
Tip of the iceberg: highly lethal explosives stolen just a fraction
28 October 2004Tip of the iceberg
As I learned while embedded in Iraq, the highly lethal explosives stolen from Al Qaqaa are just a fraction of the mountain of poorly secured munitions that could be turned against U.S. soldiers and citizens. - - - - - - - - - - - By David J. Morris
Oct. 26, 2004 | Monday’s New York Times contained a front-page story describing the disappearance of nearly 380 tons of high-powered explosives from a sensitive weapons cache outside Baghdad known as Al Qaqaa. "60 Minutes" (…) -
I want REAL hope: That when gas costs $46 a gallon, America will still shine...
28 October 2004by Jane Stillwater
The future scares me. I want reassurance.
"Yes, you will always have a charge card and, yes, there will always be a mall." I get that reassurance all the time but that’s not the reassurance that I need. I’m not a fool. I know that we can’t go on spending the earth’s resources and living on peak oil forever. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER THAT.
This is the reassurance that I crave: "No matter what happens with regard to your material circumstances, your life (…) -

Murdoch: Fox News does not favour Bush
28 October 2004by Claire Cozens
Rupert Murdoch has claimed his Fox News channel is not biased in favour of George Bush and that News Corporation, his global media empire, is a "fair and balanced" company.
Speaking at the company’s annual general meeting in Adelaide, Mr Murdoch insisted Fox News’ reporting was more balanced than that of other US networks.
"It’s full of Democrats and Republicans, the others only have Democrats. We don’t take any position at all," Mr Murdoch said in response to a (…) -

28 October 2004By Ben Cohen
Last week, the co-founder of Ben and Jerry’s argued the U.S. government is looking for a new villain to justify a Pentagon budget increase. This week, it found one — under the worst of circumstances.
You may know some despicable characters, but are they mean enough to apply for this job posting?

Increase in War Funding Sought Bush to Request $70 Billion More
28 October 2004By Jonathan Weisman and Thomas E. Ricks
The Bush administration intends to seek about $70 billion in emergency funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan early next year, pushing total war costs close to $225 billion since the invasion of Iraq early last year, Pentagon and congressional officials said yesterday.
White House budget office spokesman Chad Kolton emphasized that final decisions on the supplemental spending request will not be made until shortly before the request is sent (…)
