IDF Commandos Shot American Peace Activist Furkan Dogan 4 Times in Head Killing Him
4 June 2010This is an important development as the details of the IDF’s assault on the Gaza Peace Flotilla emerge from individual eye witnesses emerge. One particularly galling detail was Israel’s long delay in releasing the names of the peace activists who were killed. One reason for the delay was probably the U.S. nationality of one of the IDF commandos’ victims, 19 year old Furkan Dogan.

Rachel Corrie: Gaza aid organisers lose contact with ship, blame sabotage
4 June 2010The Gaza flotilla organisers lost contact with the Gaza-bound MV Rachel Corrie today. Although the Free Gaza movement decided to pull the aid-laden cargo ship into a port to add more high profile people and journalists, the organisers said they couldn’t communicate the decision to those aboard the vessel. “The situation is we lost contact with the boat. We assume this was sabotage by the Israelis, “ said Audrey Bomse of the Free Gaza Movement.

Alvarez’ “Storyteller” Has Characters Galore (Book Review)
4 June 2010“Our meat is aged, our fish is fresh and our butchers are both.” (1)
On May 23, 2010, I attended a book reading at the Crystal Moll Gallery in South Baltimore. Rafael Alvarez, a local who worked for twenty three years as a reporter for the Baltimore Sun, was one of the participants. Afterwards, he signed copies of his book, “Storyteller, published in 2001, the same year he hung up his pad and pencil at the Sun.
Reading “Storyteller,” I enjoyed recognizing so many of the colorful (…) -

TV news reader quits in protest at Berlusconi
3 June 2010One of Italy’s top news readers has dramatically quit her job on state-funded television after claiming its coverage was biased in favour of the media mogul and premier, Silvio Berlusconi.
Maria Luisa Busi, who presented the flagship evening TG1 news show on the Rai 1 channel, reportedly told bosses what she thought of the programme’s editorial line in a frank letter pinned to a notice board.
Her abrupt departure at the weekend follows a series of clashes with TG1 editor Augusto (…) -

3 June 2010ICTR lawyer Peter Erlinder, who along with others on the defense team of the Rwanda Tribunal, helped expose the US backed regime change operation which installed President Paul Kagame as Rwandan leader, has been arrested and is now in Kagame’s clutches in Kigali.
