On Tuesday morning, Jan. 26, 2010, a “die-in” protest was staged in front of the White House. The antiwar, anti-occupation event was primarily organized by the Minnesota Contingent of the Peaceable Assembly Campaign. Thirteen protesters were arrested for refusing to obey a police order to get off the sidewalk. During the demonstration, I talked with Peace and Justice activist, Kathy Kelly. History moves in fits and starts, traveling stealthily until suddenly it erupts like a volcano and something new is born. Like the pangs of birth, we can see it coming and even more we can feel its presence. There is evidence that the United States found oil in Haiti decades ago and due to the geopolitical circumstances and big business interests of that era made the decision to keep Haitian oil in reserve for when Middle Eastern oil had dried up.
