Video: Derek Cooper: The State of Maryland Says: “I Should Just Die!”
24 June 2008On June 19, 2008, I interviewed Derek Cooper at a protest action in Baltimore City relating to the ongoing health care crisis in this country. Mr. Cooper is 34 years old and suffers from a “chronic disease.” He has no health insurance and his current medical debts exceed $36,000. Maryland’s Health Insurance officials have “refused” to help him. Mr. Cooper says that they figure: “I should just die!” The governor of Maryland is Martin O’Malley. Mr. Cooper lives in Montgomery County. He added: (…)

The chaos that erupted outside Milwaukee County’s main welfare office Monday over disaster-related food aid had more to do with a weak economy and crushing poverty in parts of this community than the devastating floods that swept through the state earlier (…) -

Two Federal Agencies Are Culpable in Oil Price Manipulations
By PAM MARTENS
If you want to flush out market manipulation, don’t turn to the sleuths in Congress. They’ve been probing trading of the oil markets for two years and completely missed a company at the center of the action. During that period, a barrel of crude oil has risen from $50 to $140, leaving a wide swatch of Americans facing a choice this coming winter of (…) -

Blonde ambitions
23 June 2008The recent league tables hitch of Kingston University has made the round of the national news. I cannot understand why. Just practical things, a VC would say. From a point of view of a marketing manager in the University UK PLC it would be ridiculous to provide evidence of such collusions between students, lecturers, senior management of the university up to the government. It is something that is intended to be there already: an intricate network of interests bum-to-bum as nobody knew (…)

The Real State of Iraq
22 June 2008American television loves natural disasters. The Burmese cyclones that may have carried off as many as 200,000 people offered the cameras high drama.
The floods in Wisconsin, Iowa and Missouri along the Mississippi River, which have wiped out thousands of homes, have been carefully detailed hour by hour.
But American television is little interested in the massive disaster blithely visited upon Iraq by Washington. Oh, there is the occasional human interest story. Angelina Jolie’s visit (…) -
USAID May Outsource Global Cash-Distribution Function
22 June 2008"Someone in the State Department or at USAID likely already is planning to leave government service and enter the private sector to get that contract," the source said. "That’s just how things are at State. You can be sure that there’s an official or a group of officials who are currently making plans to start their own company, use their inside connections to secure the contract, and become millionaires at the expense of the average working stiff."
