[Remarks at September 15, 2007, impeachment rally in Miami, Fla., organized by www.floridaimpeach.org ]
It’s great to see such a crowd and so many groups represented. I especially want to thank Veterans for Peace. Dave Cline was a great leader and will be badly missed. We should all go out and do as much as he did with his admirable life.
On a lighter note, I went to a party yesterday in Washington, D.C. You might think we have very (…)

Food Guides for the Organically Inclined: Fertilisers Blamed for Frog Deformities
27 September 2007Reports from American scientists are claiming that “run-off from farmland drenched in fertilisers is behind the explosion in amphibians missing legs, or having extra legs and other deformities.” This is the first report to find a correlation between “nutrient enrichment” and severe limb deformities and increased mortality in species within “the aquatic ecosystem”.
If fertilisers are having such a severe effect on amphibians and other species, it would be safe to assume that they will also (…) -
PFOX Cried Wolf
27 September 2007by Wayne Besen
It was the oddest event in my fifteen-year activism career.
I had ventured to Orlando, Florida last summer to attend the National Education Association’s annual meeting. Crashing the conference was the so-called "Ex-Gay Educators Caucus," a sham organization run primarily by anti-gay lobbyists, who are attempting to get the viewpoints of "former homosexuals" into public schools. To counter their presence, I staged a press conference outside the huge convention center. (…) -
Rev. Billy Graham: A Prince of War Exposed
27 September 2007“The shepherd always tries to persuade the sheep that their interests and his own are the same.” - Stendhal
The propaganda machine of the Evangelical Christian Right will soon be in counter attack mode. One of its darling preachers is about to take it on the proverbial chin. The Rev. Billy Graham, who has created a multimillion dollar media empire, that a Rupert Murdock would envy, is the subject of a shocking expose’ due out on Nov. 15, 2007. It’s entitled, “The Prince of War: Billy (…) -
Robert Fisk: Even I question the ’truth’ about 9/11 (video)
27 September 2007By Robert Fisk
Each time I lecture abroad on the Middle East, there is always someone in the audience – just one – whom I call the "raver". Apologies here to all the men and women who come to my talks with bright and pertinent questions – often quite humbling ones for me as a journalist – and which show that they understand the Middle East tragedy a lot better than the journalists who report it. But the "raver" is real. He has turned up in corporeal form in Stockholm and in Oxford, in Sao (…) -
Hizbollah ’did not use civilians as cover’
27 September 2007By Mark Lavie in Jerusalem
In its strongest condemnation of Israel since last summer’s war, Human Rights Watch said yesterday that most Lebanese civilian casualties were caused by "indiscriminate Israeli air strikes".
The international human rights organisation said there was no basis to the Israeli claim that civilian casualties resulted from Hizbollah guerrillas using civilians for cover. Israel has said that it attacked civilian areas because Hizbollah set up rocket launchers in (…) -

Get Out of the Valley of Elah
26 September 2007By David Swanson
I spent a day meeting with Congress Members and their staffers, urging them to end the occupation of Iraq, and having them tell me they would never "defund our troops." In the evening I watched Paul Haggis’s new film "In the Valley of Elah." I walked out stunned, shaken, far more angry than I’d been, and convinced that we shouldn’t be asking Congress Members to end the occupation, we should be asking them to watch this movie. If any Congress Member were to watch this (…) -
A Hero Gets His Due
26 September 2007Anything But Straight
by Wayne Besen
About three years ago, I was lounging in a Montreal hotel room when I got a call from activist Mike Rogers. I was unaware of who he was, but this intense stranger began interrogating me for information about - well, I don’t even remember what the topic was anymore. But, I do recall that he was about the toughest advocate I had encountered in quite some time. As I hung up the phone I thought, "thank God this guy is on our side."
In an era of softer (…) -
Bush’s False Analogies Between Vietnam and Iraq!
26 September 2007By Brian McAfee
With President Bush recently bringing up the killing fields of South East Asia as justification for the US continuing the war in Iraq [1], I could not help but think of John Pilger’s 1991 film "Cambodia: The Betrayal." This documentary investigates and outlines the West’s, particularly the US’s, behind the scenes and ongoing support for Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. Indeed, this backing began during the Carter administration and it continued throughout both the Reagan and (…)
