WASHINGTON - An FBI counterterrorism unit monitored - and apparently infiltrated - a peace group in Pittsburgh that opposed the invasion of Iraq, according to internal agency documents released on Tuesday.
The disclosure raised new questions about the extent to which federal authorities have been conducting surveillance operations against Americans since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
Previous revelations include FBI (…)

Israeli Attack on Jericho Jail Sparks Uprising in Gaza and West Bank by Donald Macintyre
15 March 2006Published on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 by the Independent / UK
Six Palestinian prisoners, including a militant accused of the murder of an Israeli government minister in 2001, surrendered last night after a nine-hour armed siege that began when British monitors abandoned the jail where the men were being held.
The siege had triggered a wave of protest attacks and abductions directed against foreigners across Gaza and the West Bank and there were heavy exchanges of fire outside the (…) -
U.S. Military Airstrikes Significantly Increased in Iraq by Tom Lasseter
15 March 2006Published on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 by Knight Ridder
BAGHDAD - American forces have dramatically increased airstrikes in Iraq during the past five months, a change of tactics that may foreshadow how the United States plans to battle a still-strong insurgency while reducing the number of U.S. ground troops serving here.
A review of military data shows that daily bombing runs and jet-missile launches have increased by more than 50 percent in the past five months, compared with the same (…) -
Latin America and Asia are Breaking Free of Washington’s Grip By NOAM CHOMSKY
15 March 2006The prospect that Europe and Asia might move towards greater independence has troubled US planners since the second world war. The concerns have only risen as the "tripolar order"—Europe, North America and Asia—has continued to evolve.
Every day Latin America, too, is becoming more independent. Now Asia and the Americas are strengthening their ties while the reigning superpower, the odd man out, consumes itself in misadventures in the Middle East.
Regional integration in Asia and Latin (…) -
F**king, spineless, gutless, b*llless Congressional Democrats
15 March 2006Once again our elected so-called leaders stick wet fingers in the wind, consult the political "Don’t-ever-take-a-stand-or-some-voter-realorimagined-somewhere-may-take-offense-and-not-vote-for-me" manual, and fail to back Russ Feingold in his (actually mild) censure resolution. It was okay for 20 Senate Dems. to vote to censure Bill Clinton for getting bl*wj*bs by a consenting adult on his own time, and for the House of Representatives to impeach him for the same thing, but not okay to even (…)

France : a look at the growing revolt against CPE
15 March 2006French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin unveiled his labour law liberalisation package CPE on the 16th of January. He said that “urgent” action was needed to “bring the French labour market into the modern era”. The law would see employers hire 18-26 year olds on two year contract that would allow them to fire the youths without notice, and without explanation.
In responce, student union bodies called for a week of meetings and mobilisation from 30th january including a call for a (…) -
George W. Bush is not evil. He is just stupid.
15 March 2006I once saw a bumper sticker that read: “I’ve never made a mistake. I thought I did once, but I was wrong.”
Well I have made a mistake. And today I must apologize to loyal PRAVDA.Ru readers, and to the thirty percent of Americans still enamored with the Bush dictatorship.
George W. Bush is not evil.
He’s just stupid.
On second thought, this stupidity does make him susceptible to the Machiavellian machinations of evil men, like Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Donald Rumsfeld, Alberto (…) -
Checkmate: The End of US Hegemony and What it Means for the People of the United States
15 March 2006By Brandon Batzloff Editor, Free Voices freevoices@lycos.com In October 2004, i wrote an essay titled “US and Russia: Democracy in Check” in which i compared the methods that both the United States and Russia were using to curtail human rights and democratic process. Since that time both countries have taken great steps in this direction, but the US has definitely taken the lead. Under the banner of providing security and an expanded economy, the Bush regime has taken unprecedented (…)
