WORK IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY
By Peter Fredson
March 28, 2006
It is not my intention to weigh in on the current immigration debate in the U.S. other than to say that George Bush has been careless, negligent and inept at dealing with securing our borders. As I looked at the protest demonstrations on TV, in Los Angeles, most of the several thousand protestors looked like they recently came from some Mexican countryside towns.
That jogged my memory. After WWII I had 4 years of G.I. Bill (…)

The “Noble Cause” That Killed Casey Sheehan

March 24, 2006 By Mike Whitney
A lot of rubbish has been written about “religious faith” lately. The fact is, there’s a force more powerful than faith: the power of denial. America has completely surrendered to denial; abandoning any claim to reason or clear-sighted analysis. The vast majority of people are perfectly content to ignore the telltale signs of looming disaster choosing instead to keep their heads firmly tucked in the sand.
Is it really that hard to see what’s happening?
Is (…) -

Joshua Bolten
G. W. Bush, along with his Daddy and Ronald Reagan have enjoyed the services of their "own personal law firm": O’Melveney and Myers. The controller of the US budget, Joshua Bolten, was drawn from the O’&M pool. Michael Powell is also a former O&M man. O&M’s CEO Arthur B. Culvahouse was Reagan and Bush I’s chief legal advisor for everything from Iran Contra to devising ways to increase (…) -
United States Must Address Control of its Middle East Policies by Israeli Lobby
28 March 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
by Paul Findley
Because of the gross, longstanding bias in U.S. policy in the Middle East, the world teeters on the precipice of widening conflict focused on religion— sadly, unnecessarily, dangerously. Christendom versus Islam.
Despite the efforts of many brave people to bring about just reform, the bias continues-more flagrant and costly each year. America ignores this injustice because misdirected, religion-based passions at home override even vital national interests.
Our bias is (…) -
Reparations Are Due
28 March 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsAny amnesty for ILLEGAL immigrants or guest worker’s program in the United States should be tied to several $100 billion dollars in Reparations for African Americans.
Any African American born prior to the 1965 Civil Right Act would be entitled to a share.
In the mean time, the laws already on the books concerning immigration should be fully enforced.
Quite frankly, I don’t see the difference between illegal aliens and terrorist.
But, then again on the Reparations issue, I believe (…) -

Counterfeit Conservative
Impostor: How George W. Bush Bankrupted America and Betrayed the Reagan Legacy, Bruce Bartlett, Doubleday, 320 pages
by Doug Bandow
President George W. Bush took office to the sustained applause of America’s conservative movement. In 2000, he defeated the liberal environmentalist Al Gore, abruptly terminated the legacy of the even more hated Bill Clinton, and gave Republicans control of both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue. A few cynics were suspicious of Bush’s (…) -

JAMES CARROLL Rumsfeld and the big picture By James Carroll | March 27, 2006
’’FORTUNATELY, history is not made up of daily headlines, blogs on websites, or the latest sensational attack," Donald Rumsfeld wrote in a Washington Post op-ed column last week. ’’History is a bigger picture, and it takes some time and perspective to measure accurately."
Rumsfeld was arguing that any evaluation of the present catastrophe in Iraq should take a longer view, and I agree with him. Indeed, I have (…) -
