Demos-Actions Movement Wars and conflicts Secret Services USA

Cindy Sheehan called After Downing Street moments ago at 10 p.m. ET to report that the Secret Service is trying to intimidate her and members of Gold Star Families for Peace, Iraq Veterans Against the War, and Veterans for Peace into leaving their protest near Bush’s Crawford, Texas ranch.

This morning Cindy led dozens of protesters as close as they could get to the ranch; they were stopped by local police about five miles away. Cindy and others plan to stay there throughout Bush’s five-week August vacation until he agrees to meet with her and other family members of soldiers killed in Iraq and answer their questions about the war.

Throughout the afternoon and evening, however, the Secret Service has been telling protesters that if they stay there they may be hit by Secret Service vehicles. Cindy says, "They’ve told us this at least ten times. There isn’t much room between the side of the road and the fence, and they go zooming by far over the speed limit." Cindy reports the Secret Service already ran a mother and her six year-old off the road. She believes the Secret Service’s actions are a clear attempt to coerce her and the other protesters into leaving.

Cindy and others are asking to meet with the Secret Service and local police to ensure the safety of everyone involved. In the meantime, she asks that anyone who can contact the media to alert them to the situation.

If you are able to do this, media contact information can be found here. Please politely let them know what’s been happening with the Secret Service, and encourage them to continue covering Cindy’s efforts to meet with President Bush.

Update from Celeste Zappala, Co-Founder of Gold Star Families for Peace, on Crawford

I have received the following email from Celeste Zappala, co-founder of Gold Star Families for Peace. She asked that I post it on Dailykos and to thank everyone for their support.

I have just spoken to Cindy Sheehan at 5:05 pm. Her message:

"Today is the begining of the end of the occupation of Iraq." She is feeling strong, people have been bringing her food and water. The police have been polite. She has decided to stay on the Prairie Chapel Road, which is one mile from the Ranch, until George Bush meets with her and tells the truth. She invites anyone who can to join her during the month of August for as long as they can. She urges them to bring camping gear. Also, there are two caravans coming in from Louisiana and from Dayton, Ohio now.

Cindy says she knows from her travels that "people are fed up with this war and want to do something to stop it."

Cindy asks that those who want to lend support to send donations to the Crawford Peace House which has been generously offering hospitialtiy.

Code Pink is sending out a national call for its members to have a hunger strike until George Bush has an honest meeting with Cindy. Cindy’s sister Dede has joined that hunger strike. Please keep Cindy and all of our folks in prayer. This is a stand for the honor and memory of our kids and the soul of our nation.

peace be with you,

Update [2005-8-6 18:47:46 by NYBri]:

More from Cindy via Celeste.

JUST NOW-6:13 p.m.

Cindy just called again.

TWO PEOPLE CAME OUT FROM THE RANCH TO TALK TO HER: JOE HAGEN, ASSISTANT WHITE HOUSE CHIEF OF STAFF, AND STEVEN HADLEY, NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR

They told Cindy, George Bush really believed there were weapons of mass destruction, Saddam was a threat, the war in Iraq is making America safer, we are fighting in Iraq so they we don’t have to fight terrorists here, and George Bush sincerely cares about the loss of the soldiers and their families. They had a twenty-five minute discussion as Cindy refuted these tired arguements, and reminded the men that she had met Bush last June and she had felt disrespected and belittled. She said to them "You are intelligent men, how can you believe what you are saying?"

Cindy will continue to wait for an honest discussion with George Bush.

For my part, I am proud that Cindy is standing up against these dreadful lies and the Bush ideology that has blinded so many from reality and logic. It’s as if they keep saying these things it will become true. As Cindy pointed out to the representatives, since our kids were killed, the Downing Street memo and the 9/11 Commission report have been released which refutes these false claims. Yet here we are on August 6, 2005 and the President’s men are still trying to convince American Mothers that their kids died for WMD and 9/11 links. It is not only insulting, it is madness. I will keep you posted as I talk to Cindy.

blessings,
Celeste

  • Cindy Sheehan and all Supporters !

My family and I send all of you greetings from Canada and wish you luck.

However do not count on the Chicken Hawk to come out to talk to you. He is letting others do his dirty work, just like he is letting young soldiers fight and die in Iraq for his and his Admin. LIE

Keep strong, I would join you in Crawford if I could.

All the best to all of you and my Hero Cindy Sheehan,

    • Cindy,

My brother SIGNED up for the military service. It is VOLUNTARY in this country. If he died in Afghanistan while he was serving and obeying the duties he VOLUNTEERED for, I am certain I would grieve. My point is that Your son asked to serve. He should have been prepared to die. My brother was and is. If he didn’t want to get shot at or blown up, he should not have joined. I don’t think Bush has any obligation to send his daughters to a war zone. You didn’t sign your son up for service, did you? NOr should any other parent have to sign their offspring to service. I am sure that if Bush had one of his twins sign up, he would support that decision. Bush didn’t kill your son. Some guy with a gun did.

      The Destroyer.

    • Those that sign up for Service trust their Government not to USE THEM for their Political gains, power, and money. Their only fault was in Trusting Cheney & W., they should not be USED and have to die for THIS!!

    • What a fucking jerk you are. Casey Sheehan did not volunteer so that he could die for president junior’s lies, he volunteered to defend and serve his country. Ms. Sheehan has every right to ask this impudent asshole to explain exactly how her son’s death served his country now that we know that the stated rationale was a deliberate lie.

    • I am very concerned with your apparent disrespect for human life and your dissillusioned belief in our President.

    • To the destroyer, What a perfect name for a bush supporter. you and "w" don’t have any balls. you sound like the type that hyas others fight for you or you would be over there too. What an ignorant ASS. Wake UP !!!

    • Dear Destroyer - seems like Bush didn’t have either of his twins sign up for Iraq. It’s easy for Bush to say the "sacrifice is worth it" when he is not willing to sacrifice his own flesh and blood. The scary part is that Americans are dying in his illegal war and he’s out at bar-b-ques campaigning with a big smile on his face and doesn’t have the courage to meet Cindy and the other parents face to face.

Cindy - I admire your courage and the courage of the other families that are with you outside the Bush ranch. As a parent, my heart aches for your loss.

Bless all gods creatures - no exceptions.

From: Cats are flyfishing in Pike Township, Berks County, PA.

    • wow , this guy - my brother - is really !@#$%%^ , i guess i can not post what i really would say ,,,,
      more power to CINDY!!!!!

    • Honestly, how much credibility can you give some yahoo who pipes up using the name The Destroyer. Of what? Worlds? Asshat.

    • The justification for the Iraq War is all based on lies. The people who struck the US on 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia.
Oh and by the way most of the people in this country now give Bush a 38% approval rating. Are Haliburton profits something to die for?

    • MY brother signed up, too. He is in Iraq right now, for one year minimum. His very first baby will be born in November. He signed up to protect America! not to protect corporations and their politicians. How dare Bush&Co. use our brave men and women to guard pipelines, escort Halliburton mercenaries, and misuse out tax dollars.

They lied to our soldiers. They lied to us. They did NOT lie to protect us, they lied to deceive us into supporting this attempt to build military bases in the heart of Babylon.

Bush&co. work for us. They are not our employers. They are our employees. Fire them.

    • The fact that this is a voluntary army misses the point. When Americans join the service, they are trusting that their leaders will only send them into war when it is absolutely necessary, and with proper planning and equipment to ensure their safety. None of this happened with Iraq. It was a done deal sold on lies with no plan for success once the initial invasion was completed. According to your logic, once a person volunteers to be in the armed services in this country, we should all just shut up, even when our soldiers die because of lies and mismanagement. You aren’t much of a patriot.

    • No American soldier should be expected to fight in an illegal war. They volunteer because they need a job and don’t expect to support a war that is nothing more than "BLOOD FOR OIL." What is wrong with paying $5 to $10 per gallon for gas? That is better than paying for oil with the blood of thousands of men, woman, and children plus take Americans hard earned tax dollars (about $300,000,000,000 that’s billions) to add to the cost of "BLOOD FOR OIL." I don’t think Bush should send his daughters to a war zone either, I think he should hold their hands as he TAKES them to the war zone. Cindy Sheehan has a question for George Bush, why doesn’t he answer her now. Maybe he doesn’t see the Peace Train coming down the tracks, coming from all parts of America. Wage peace not war!!

    • You Bush lovers are either intellectually or morally challenged or both. You always drag out out the same old refrain. "The military is VOLUNTARY" You try to make it sound as if it’s about someone who’s had an accident on a motorcycle is being reminded that he CHOSE to ride a motorcycle. Our children VOLUNTEERED to save your sorry ass from WMDs and Al Quaida, you moron! Problem is there WERE no WMDs. They were lied to and the American public was MANIPULATED. Doesn’t it tip you off that their cowardly Commander in chief found every way to run as far away from armed combat when it was his turn to ’spread freedom and democracy?’

I hold you people personally responsible for the wreckage of our country. Your stupidity is no excuse.

Cindy, keep it up, and tell the world that we are all still fighting to bring back to this country the principles that it once stood for and for which its founding fathers fought. You are strong, brave, and eloquent. I know this takes every bit of energy you’ve got. God bless

      Your friend,
      Gilda
      Military Families Speak Out

    • Yes, military service is currently voluntary. But you overlook the obvious point that thousands were induced to volunteer for the military with false information provided by the Bush administration, by all appearances in a very calculating fashion. If I manipulate your brother with lies in order to convince him to enter a dangerous situation am I free of responsibility for his death or injury?

    • What? Have you no understanding of military? The Golden rule is that OUR COUNTRY will not send OUR MEN, ie soldiers, in harms way UNLESS... it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. Read... that might help. Before you begin to defend something, understand it to its fullest. Cindy knows her son joined in a volunteer manner, she also knows that you do what you are told, in the military especially during a time of war or you are placed in prison or shot on the spot. So... in that respect... she has the RIGHT to know if her son was placed in harms way over a LIE, which we all know that it was! Go CINDY!

  • All prayers & blessings & empowerment to Cindy and the other protestors. I will convey this information to local media and hope the spotlight is turned upon this harassment they are enduring.

  • Cindy,

Please stay the course. There are millions of Americans who feel, and know, as you do, and we are proud of your courageous attempts to speak with President Bush, in the hope of helping him to understand the tragic, unnecessary price we are paying for a war based on half-truths and non-truths.

While we whole-heartedly support the men and women who fight and die on the battlefield, we deplore the fact that they have been needlessly placed in harm’s way.

    Sincerely,

    Georgia C. Williams
    Yucca, AZ

  • First, I am amazed and so proud of you Cindy for never giving up the memory and life’s sacrifice of your son.

Second, we all need to support Cindy and our duped soldiers (in harms way via prevarication for profit & power), if not in body and funds, in spirit.

I can’t believe our little local paper in Las Cruces, NM actually ran a story on Cindy’s actions today (Sunday) on page A 2! This paper is infamous to free thinkers, for relegating the 2003 war protest (the largest, grass roots, coordinated, political human event in the history of the WORLD) to a small paragraph on D12.

I believe that Air America, Current, the Nation, Mother Jones, Michael Moore, as well as the international press; The Guardian, The Independent, and Al Jazeera et/al, should be interested enough in this story to send their own correspondents. United for Peace and Justice, A.N.S.W.E.R and all genuine Christian organization need to support her. If you are reading this please notify these organizations and get them down to Crawford!

And speaking of support, your website respectfully asks that donations to be sent to a "Crawford Peace House" but there is no contact information. Please include this if possible, ASAP and pass it on!

Thank you again for the work you are doing. It WILL bring peace, and not more violent insanity, to our world.

  • We can all draw encouragement from the conduct and example of this brave woman.
Those, who would tempt to belittle her effort, are better recall the history of the bereaved mothers of Soviet soldiers (young conscripted men, many of them just barely late teens) who had been killed in Afganistan. Their protests had burst empty of all propaganda effort of the Soviet state. In time, both politicians and the military ’brass’, had learned to dread the effect they had on the population and they played an important role, in pressuring them, to withdraw the troops.

  • Ms. Sheehan, I am praying that you and every mother succeeds to put an end to this madness.
These are pure lies coming from Bush and Co. The war is due to the insecurity of oil shortages in the U.S. and it has nothing to do with delivering the people from Saddam.

Ms. Sheehan, I can understand your pain and God bless you for the courage that He has given you. Every mother feels that once their child has been killed, life is worth fighting for a good cause. Your doing the right thing.

If Bush does not talk to you personally, I hope we collectively gather in front of the white house and demand for an impeachment. The Congress and the House run by the religious cowards will have no choice but to change course. The folks did it during Nixongate and impeached him. We can do it. We need to change the middle eastern policies so we all can live in peace. Don’t believe the lies that U.S. is safe. No, U.S. is not safe, we have awaken those savage giants. They believe in "eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth." It is the Christians that believe in forgiveness. So, we need to make change from here if we are a Christian nation. How can any missionaries spread the gospet at this rate? I can’t and so I am with you to end this war.

  • Cindy Sheehan is a real American hero. Thank you for your boldness and courage to fiercely uphold the truth.

  • I just want to send a message to Cindy and tell her to keep hanging in there and that she is a very brave person for saying what she feels . She is in our thoughts and prayers, and we will be keeping an eye on the news to see if Mr. Bush will talk to her personally or other developments. Stay strong Cindy, do not lose your courage! You are right to pursue a face-to-face talk with this man to get the truth out of him. We wish we could be there in person to camp out with you and the others but my husband cannot get off work and I am not a well person. If my husband gets a temporary lay-off by the end of Aug. we may just come down to Texas even though it would be a very grueling trip for me to take. I am concerned that our troops get out of Iraq but I must admit I have a personal interest as my own nephew who may be going there within the next four months. This will be the third round of a nephew of mine going there. IT is very nervewracking to say the least, but I cannot imagine losing a son in this war that we have been lied to as being just., it is not. Bill and Valerie Davis- Alton Iowa

  • Cindy Sheehan and the people with her are TRUE AMERICAN PATROITS! They have the courage (that our gutless media lacks) to stand up to the Bush thugs. I support Ciondy 100 percent!

  • Where can we send money?

    • Is there a Post Office Box in Texas where we can send letters of Thanks and encouragement for Cindy to read while she is "waiting to speak to W"?

    • Here is address where you can help...

      9142 - 5th Street
      Crawford, TX 76638 - 3037

  • Dear Cindy;
All great victories begin with one great person. You are in for the fight of your life. Gain your strengh by knowing that perhaps you are the first ripple in the beginning of a ground swell. God bless you and God bless this country. Be strong !

  • Thank God for brave women. America must wake up before it is too late or we will be a dictatorship.

I pray the true 9-11 reports will be believed by enough people to have a demonstration against this government that continues to erase the Constitution and Bill of Rights. I think the true reason for the war is for oil..

    • I agree partly about Oil being 1 reason for War but you can’t deny Money that is being lost (millions) and Haliburton’s profits (billions). Haliburton Stock is up over 200%. They have an endless amt. of work, repairing ALL the Destruction W. has caused!! It is VERY profitable for them and if they were willing to risk all those lives on 9/11 they certainly don’t mind hundreds of thousands of Iraqi’s dying.
The bottom line for the Evil Cheney (who runs the show) is $$$$$!!!!!

  • YOU GO GIRL!!! We are ALL with you if not in body.. in spirit! I am sure your son is ALSO looking down at you and feeling VERY PROUD!!

  • in your letter to prsident bush-
if you did not call his actions assinine , you probably would have been able to meet with him again-

    was your son drafted?

did you stop him from joining?

you are here now fighting for your cause, but where were you when he signed up?

and i guess it is presidents bush fault your unemployed.

mcdonalds and wal-mart are always hiring.

    • Maybe she could get a job teaching you grammar and spelling; not to mention manners.

    • I sincerely applaud Cindy Sheehan for expressing her US Constitutional, American rights to criticize the administration over her sons tragic death at the age of 24 as he courageously volunteeed to defend the USA while serving in Iraq. Americans supported and protested against our president, vice-president and others from the PNAC (Project For A New American Century) whenever they formed their policy to exert American military might as the age of Peak Oil comes into being. We citizens were all told exactly what was needed and shown by the horrific events of 9/11/01 to inflame us into fighting for our ’way of life’ as it became endangered by ’terrorists’ from cells showing up around the world. I fully support Cindy Sheehans ’change of heart’ as she has confronted the growing reality that this ’War on Terror’ is really about our declining global supplies of hydrocarbons over the next 50 to 100 years. Perhaps we would have all gone along with a plan to protect our way of life if we were told the truth about our reasons for attacking Iraq, simply that we need to control oil supplies if we are to maintain a future for capitalism to flourish in and expand.
There can be no doubt, if one reads, Crossing The Rubicon, written by Michael C. Ruppert, that we certainly do face rather significant issues with regards to energy supplies and hydrocarbons. These problems will most likely only worsen as China, India, and Indonesia increase their energy needs. I for one see no easy way out of this scenario where as we use our military might to protect and strengthen our access to oil for many years to come. We are not as ignorant and sheep-ish as some think-tank types would perhaps like to believe. It is just ashame they continue to tout the line of ’staying the course’ which I am so sick of hearing, all the while that course is constantly mired in deceptive language, never fully explaining the true nature of our problem. It is that lack of sincerity from our leaders that could very well have changed Cindy Sheehan from supporting her sons enlistment to one of disillusionment at the outright lies that have accompanied our present state of being. I am sure she loves her country as much if not more than the average American. She has the wounds of loss to show for her devotion. Let her protest as she sees fit in the name of her fallen, heroic son. Support her and lend her an ear. She is after all, one of us, a PATRIOTIC American who wants other mothers and fathers to not have to suffer as she has.

      Sincerely,

      Sean Richardson

    • You know, Bush supporters would much more persuasive if they understood a) Capitalization, b) spelling c) pluralization; and, d) evolution.

Vive la France! A bas l’Etas-Unis de Georges Bush! Il est un cretin!

    • Notice that many times those crying for freedom give clear and concise messages, supported by facts, being compassionate and gathering together in mutual support, yet those who support this power-mad regime simply spew derogotory hate and insults? I see this on many blogs and in the news (Hannity or O’really anyone?) and think it is disgusting. In the eyes of the current misleaders and all who support them, if you support the administration, you are a patriot, but if you oppose them, you are a traitor. This is how Hitler came to power in Germany. It is how Mussollini came to power in Italy. The growing Fascism in America is scary and disgusting. It has the support of millions of misguided citizens who listen to Fox news and are brainwashed to support the regime. This literally is a conspiracy, utilizing Corporate media, mafia intimidation tactics and subversion of civil rights to reduce the voice of the opposition.

It is when true heroes and patriots, like Cindy Sheehan, stand up and hold fast that shows the hypocrisy of these brownshirts and their un-American activities. I salute and honor you, Cindy, for being a light in the darkness. If I could get to Crawford, Texas to support you, I would be there with my tent and sleeping bag, but alas I cannot. I would encourage any who can, though, to do so. If this turned into the largest gathering of anti-war demonstrators, along with the A.N.S.W.E.R. march in September, it would begin the process that will bring down these liars. It was not until the public began demonstrating in large numbers that the Vietnam conflict was ended, and the same will happen here.

Keep up the great work Cindy and me and mine will be praying for you and watching to see what happens.

Oh, and if Cindy should happen to be arrested Thursday, it would seriously backfire on the bushies if there happened to be several thousand people around at that time. "National Security" my eye! More like intimidation and repression. Thats the message that needs to be broadcast if such happens.

    • Why don’t you send your own kid? better yet, why don’t you enlist? Keep doing what you do Cindy!

    • You know, you deserve just to let those ugly words of yours hang there in cyberspace. Hopefully, you’ll read and re-read them and perhaps develop (belatedly) a sense of empathy for this incredibly courageous and strong woman.

    • Mrs. Sheehan is fighting for MY cause and I have no son in this so-called war. This is not for defense of our homes. This is not for the Bill of Rights War for any other reason is a racket. I am proud of Mrs. Sheehan and very grateful to her.

    • The damage to the domestic job market done by this President, and his last three predecessors, guarantees that Cindy Sheehan’s son, and hundreds of thousands like him, have only one real option to come close to the same life style their parents brought them up with. Join the military.

McDonalds and Wal-Mart are always hiring, at pay rates that no one in the 1980’s would take, given any other option. It is a travesty that five of the richest people in this country are named Walton and that fortune was built the way it was.

Here in this country, once your six months of unemployment expires, you disappear from the unemployment statistics. The only reason the unemployment rate is so low is that the long term unemployed have been bureaucraticly erased. The poor domestic job market makes the "back door draft" possible. The back door draft is how the puppet government of Iraq is managing to recruit so many people (70% unemployment). At the same time, in this country, the majority of people are working longer work weeks, not saving anything or even borrowing against the equity in their homes, in order to continue what they believe is a normal life style. You have to wonder about the kids that would volunteer to defend this kind of an economic system. By the way, what kind of a jerk would sneer in the face of a mother whose son had been killed unnecessarily in the service of his country. You must be a Republican!

    • Hey moron, how about some Geopolitics 101: Saddam was required to disarm after Iraq War I. He attacked is neighbors to the north (IRAN) and to the south (KUWAIT) and ever the enemy, Israel is perched to the west.. Even though he complied with the UN resolutions, do you think he wanted his neighbors to know? Of course he was being coy and deceptive. How about Geopolitics 102: The neocons in the US are the servants of wealthy mineral extraction corporations. There was a power vacuum in Iraq. With the world’s fourth largest oil reserves, any excuse to occupy give the US a foothold in the Middle East where they’ve been unable to do so for the past 40 years. Saddam was never a threat. How do I know? Not from reading classified documents. From the stinking Philadelphia Inquirer, which reported consistently about the no-fly zones in the North and South of Iraq. Saddam was hemmed in. Bush’s intel told him there were no WMD’s, and that there was no 9-11 connection. So he LIED to the American people to start was war for geopolitical reasons, 1800 American’s, including Cindy’s son.

I suggest that if you believe the lies, then sign up and go over there. I suspect though, that Cindy Sheehan has a lot more courage to confront the President, than you have confronting the dishonor of all the Republican lies and treason.

      God Bless Cindy Sheehan.

    • Nice diatribe, tool! How much did ’W’s gang pay you clowns for these lame retorts? A normal, compasionate person wouldn’t waste their time. And I shouldn’t waste mine on scum like you...

    • You should follow this simple rule. "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."

    • That was a very "un-american" and small posting. I support you Cindy and I know so very many people who feel the same. Know that you are not alone and that many, many americans know that our president is a liar. My thoughts are with you.

    • I’ll answer your questions to Cindy for her:

if you did not call his actions assinine , you probably would have been able to meet with him again-
      was your son drafted?

As an American born into a free-speech society where "dissent" was urged by the likes of Jefferson, Hamilton & Franklin (for starters), Cindy Sheehan has "every right" to say what she may. Check Google for * and his use of the middle-finger, more then several times, highly documented on film, long before becoming Cindy’s son Casey’s Commander-in-Chief.

And while your at it, check for Dick telling a fellow Congressional member to do that 2 letter word, right on the floor of the Senate. Oh, the "Culture of Corruption!"

Was her son drafted? No. But he was one of the very first troops to deploy meaning her son and Cindy certainly thought the war was based on truth. Later, like many Congressional members and American citizens, self included learned way too late that the war was based on "lies!"

Go to http://www.downingstreetmemo.com/ will ya. To even say anything negative of a mother whom sacrificed her son for folks like you is past disgusting, and by the way, how come you’re not over there in Iraq?

did you stop him from joining? Check above for your answer. Then, meet her deceased son, whom died in Iraq: http://www.angelfire.com/sk3/spkhntrca/Casey.html

you are here now fighting for your cause, but where were you when he signed up?

Her cause is your cause, get - it! Her son died for you.

and i guess it is presidents bush fault your unemployed.

You’ve no compassion. What does her unemployment have to do with this? And since you brought it up, if it were my son I’d quit my job in a heartbeat and fight for his honor.

mcdonalds and wal-mart are always hiring.

She won’t need to look for a job at McDonald’s or Wal-Mart when this if over. With the bravery, courage and patriotic stand she’s taking (the world is watching by the way), she’ll have no problem making it in life with just her dignity, honor and display of true American bravery.

Any other questions can be forwarded to your GOP! Because when you put a fallin’ hero of any war, especially the Iraq war because it’s right here and now and they’re over there dying for the gas you put in your car (Can you say Osama Bin-Forgotten and why?), you’re putting down all American’s that have either fought, died or returned home in all of our wars, and especially their loved-ones.

Show some compassion and courage by restraining your dis-respect for those that have suffered for you during this time. Try supporting her and her son Casey as they did when they believed the war was for something else.

Who knew our Guard would be deployed... who knew.

    • Aw. Poor Bush. It must have really hurt his feelings to be called "assinine." He’s a very sensitive fellow, you know.

    • This should answer your various questions, which, in truth, do not deserve to be dignified by a response. Below is a quote from Cindy. She’s a regular middle American, not a lefty hippie radical or "Hollywood elite," and like thousands and thousands of middle Americans, learned the truth too late, because she was lied to. That’s the point. That’s what this is all about:

"I shamefully and regretfully admit that before Casey was killed in Iraq I didn’t publicly speak out against the war. I didn’t shout out and say, ’Stop. Stop this insane rush to an invasion that has no basis in reality. Don’t invade a country based on cherry-picked intelligence and despicable scare tactics. You don’t use our country’s precious lifeblood unless its absolutely necessary to defend America.’ If I had broken the bonds of my slavery to silence sooner, would Casey still be alive? I don’t know."

  • Cindy, How can we help you? You’re doing a wonderful job - it’s time someone stood up for the truth. People all over the world are with you and thinking of you, day and night.

    • Cindy, my wife and daughter and I up here in Chicago are behind you 100%. I hope hundreds of people of conscience join you in Crawford to make sure Bush can’t forget the human cost of his illegal war during his 5-week "vacation".
      Once again, he’s AWOL!

      Go, Cindy!

  • CINDY, WE LOVE AND RESPECT YOU FOR HAVING THE GUTS TO STAND UP TO A LYING TYRANT. YOU HAVE MORE COURAGE THAN OUR WIMPY CONGRESS (DEMS & REPUGS) WHO IS AFRAID TO IMPEACH THE TREASONOUS LIAR.

  • To believe we are in a quagmire is an understatement. The Bush administration wanted to get into this war against Iraq and used 9/11 as the catalyst to attack their chosen target IRAQ..
Cindy is the finest of the middle American class of people who are hard working law abiding citizens and has taken enough. With the death of her son that broke the web of trust and integrity and a slight sense of truth from the Bush administration.
Unfortunately the media is contricting the access of this story to reach too many Americans. THe control of the media did not exist years ago especially during the Vietnam War. The least number of people who know the better off the Bush administration is to keep secret anything they need to hide...
Hopefully this story can make the honest- to- goodness middle class think twice and realize the
dire situation our soldiers are in .... My gut feeling is that these people do see the light but are unwilling to speak out...

  • I applaud your courage and perserverance Cindy. God be with you. Hang in there!

  • More power to you, Cindy Sheehan, and all the other members of Gold Star Families. I thought it was wrong to go into Iraq and I think it is now (like Viet Nam) hard for the politicos to save face and get out. George Bush is the worst president we have ever had. History will put him way down there below all the others. He is killing our young people for no reason. Fighting in Iraq has nothing to do with stopping terrorism---put the energy (money) that is going into this futile war, into anti-terrorist efforts at home---why did we cut the number of people at the airport looking for bombs? We can’t afford them---no, because we spend too much money in Iraq.

KEEP IT UP, CINDY, AND ALL THE REST OF YOU.

  • Dear Cindy, My thoughts and prayers are with you. There are so many of us, your fellow Americans, who share your grief, and are disgusted by the actions and inactions of this man who dares to call himself a leader. I wish that I could be there with you! Stay strong. I know that your son is proud of you. I was appalled by the comment from someone who said that your son signed on for this. I know he didn’t. He signed on to defend our country, and in return to receive an education. My son did the same thing. No one would knowingly sign up for the Bush agenda of killing and pillaging in the name of democracy. Those of us who work for a living are of no concern to Bush. The good news is that there are more of us than there are of the privileged elite that he represents.

    Much love and continued prayers,

    Cindy Wilson

    • The tipping point is near for Bush.I served during Vietnam and as much as they like to say there is no comparison—there is. When Iraq fails, and drifts into a true civil war, as it is now, then the American people will finally wake up! Cindy Sheehan is truly a brave person. She is showing the American public what true discourse is about in a democracy. And as we all know, if the draft was reinstated tomorrow the war would be over in a month---those with the biggest mouths would never let their kids put on the uniform.
