Come November: A Republican Hat Trick..or Musical Chairs?
by Open-Publishing - Saturday 22 April 2006Given the expectations for this coming November Mid-Term election....Iraq worse, gas prices higher, Bush poll numbers still in sub strata range....can the Republicans, with a wealth of sneaky and even illegal tactics, hold onto their seats?
Here’s what they could...what they might very well do, in all or in part,to aid their numbers and hold their offices.
Just prior to the elections, bring back 10 or 15 thousand troops from Iraq, or at least move them down to Kuwait as Murtha has suggested.
Launch a mammoth, 10,000 man sweeping shock and awe attack on insurgents (risky).
Conduct another phony "roundup" of illegal immigrants and especially of those who hire them (to be released, of course, immediately following the elections).
Bomb Iran (nuke or conventional). No matter how "unpopular", this kind of action always raises presidential poll numbers, and by extention, those of the majority Congress.
Release leaks about Democrat felonous activity (never difficult to find if one digs deeply enough).
Resort to the old standard. Use voting machines to "aid" the results, virtually assuring fewer seats would be lost to Democrats. There is much talk about various states banning electronic machine voting, but there will be enough states supporting them to be effective. In 2004 all it took was ONE state (Ohio).
And as a last desperate move (all else failing), launch a fake attack by terrorists (Zarquawi is a good foil), on US soil. It needn’t be genuine, just scary enough for Bush to declare Marshall Law. As an alternative, Bush could declare a Mad Cow or Bird Flu epidemic with more or less the same expected results...hopefully causing the gullible and manipulable American public to "rally ’round the chief"
All the above tactics are unlikely, but one certainly can’t put them past the devious mind of Karl Rove...unless he’s behind bars by November, of course.
