A row of Moroccan flags firmly embedded in a concrete wall too tall to scale, align a compound that has no political will and surround a United Nations mission that has no human rights bureau. Minurso, the UN Mission for the Referendum in the Western Sahara, is a sad spectacle where the single blue flag appears to reach tall into the warm sky.
But it hangs limp as the dozens of red draped green stars flutter in the slight breeze; defiant (…)

The Secessionist Option: Why Now?
Ian Baldwin
It is a strange coincidence that just as the ship of the United States is groaning on the shoals of bankruptcy, leaking dollars like massive jets of seawater, at this precise moment a charismatic black American has risen out of relative obscurity in the lower decks to captain the ship.
But look! Are those phantoms I see, or real men, those masked Neo-Cons, dual-flag-lapel armchair warmongers, weapons and security services execs, rollicking (…) -
When Self Loathing Becomes Law: The Clarence Thomas Story
30 March 2009 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentWhenever America commemorates past wars, or wages new ones, one persistent theme is how a particular war was essential to “the defense of freedom.” Although the United States has fought some wars where its liberty interests were at risk, in recent times this “defense of freedom” mantra has become little more than a subterfuge to conceal the fact that America’s military is increasingly being deployed so that multi-national corporations can plunder the human and natural resources of weaker (…)

A World Parliament is possible, if YOU join it!
We believe that another world is possible. But what does this new world look like? The World Parliament Experiment (WPE) is not just against the current world order, it is a positive vision of a fully democratic world, in which everybody will take part and have a say.
This is why the WPE is YOUR democracy. It is your forum to vote, (…) -

Video: Sister Prejean on the Death Penalty, Dubya and Gonzo
10 March 2009 par (Open-Publishing)
On March 9, 2009, Sister Helen Prejean spoke out for the repeal of the Death Penalty in Maryland. Her remarks were made at the Parish Hall of the historic St. Anne’s Church, in Annapolis, MD, near the State House where the General Assembly meets. Sister Prejean also ripped former President and ex-Texas Governor, George W. Bush, and his then legal counsel, Alberto “Gonzo” Gonzales, for the cursory manner in which they carried out hundreds of executions of condemned prisoners in Texas. Ms. (…)

1 commentWhat the hell did he do ??
Well, the man is being tried for selling the communist daily "L’Humanité-dimanche" in the street : his trial is to take place on February 18th.
Lounis merely sold the French daily at the Dejean Market, in the 18th ’arrondissement’ in Paris... where he had been selling it for 20 years.
And yet, in 2007 -about 8 weeks before the French presidential election- he was questioned by the police for "selling goods in a public place without any authorization".

No Victors in the War on Dissent
8 January 2009 par (Open-Publishing)
Among the wars currently being fought by the American government is one in which there can be no winners. Our prior law enforcement experiences warn us that the “war on terrorism” has spawned an internal “war on dissent” in which everyone loses.
Author William John Cox’s law enforcement career spanned 40 years, the early part of which was spent as a Los Angeles police officer and which included direct policing of both the riots and terrorist incidents in that city in the late 60’s to (…)
