In the Northwest, most people I know have (at least) a healthy dose of scepticism towards Federal Government solutions to our problems. Even outside the more liberal population centers of Portland and Seattle, many Northwesterners have rejected the new paradigm and started working towards a better future.
All around, farmers’ markets are spreading like wildfire, though these blazes only really threaten WalMart, Albertsons, and petro-chemical dependence. Or, take "conservative" Idaho. The State legislature (thanks to pressure from the grassroots) has issued a memorandum against Bush’s USA Patriot act, and last June a jury told federal prosecutors that they would not accept bogus charges against a University of Idaho Student charged with supporting terror by making websites. In short, folks around these parts are into actively shaping their future, rather than following the leader.
I suspect that here again, now, normal people from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Montana, and Wyoming (and beyond) will want to start fixing what ails D.C. (not the other way around). Congress has "copped-out" (as Ralph Nader calls it) and failed to stand up to this Administration and their lies. Congress has allowed more than 1,700 Americans (and at least 22,000 Iraqis) to be killed in a war nobody’s really sure why we’re fighting or how we’d even win.
The beautiful part is that, with frustation nearing the boiling point, it shouldn’t be that hard to take the government back from the rich and powerful who demand the voiceless poor fight and die. Here’s how to do it.
First visit the People’s Email Network ( http://www.usalone.com/downingstreet_np.htm ) and send a note to your Senators and representative demanding they investigate the Downing Street Minutes. While you’re there put ALL your friends’ email addresses in the "invite" box and they’ll get a letter asking them to do the same. The (Portland) readership won’t be enough—they need thousands upon thousands of requests. The first step is letting these idiots in Washington feel the groundswell of anger about Bush leading more than 1700 of our kids to a senseless death.
Secondly, assuming your "representatives" politely tell you to get bent, turn the heat up just a little. Do something like what Ralph Nader suggested. Get a few dozen folks to sign a letter demanding they meet with you (their constituents) and some local media to answer a few questions. Such as, 1) Have you read the Downing Street Memos? (There are more than one of these bad boys.) 2) If Bush lied to Congress (that’s you, buddy) are you willing to vote for his impeachment? 3) When will you demand our soldiers come home? I’m sure you can think of some more. (Or check out this link: http://democracyrising.us/content/view/151/151/ ) If they don’t agree to meet with you, tell them you will get double the signatures. If they still refuse, picket in front of their offices. Let the rest of their voters see how Mr./Ms. Beltway won’t even talk with the people they represent.
Finally, (and assuming you’re old enough), run for Congress in 2006. No need to have a bunch of mumbo-jumbo, just run on a handful of issues. 1) Impeach Bush for negligent manslaughter of thousands of Americans. If he’s already been impeached by then, then run to impeach whatever fool is currently trying to pass themselves off as representing you. These spineless wimps are everybit as much of the problem as Dubya. Judging by where we are now, anyone in charge deserves to be fired. 2) Bring the troops home in an orderly fashion, yesterday. 3) No more CAFTA, FTAA, NAFTA, WTO alphabet soup non-sense.
Throwing out ALL the bums is our the best hope at stopping America’s Imperial suicide. Future leaders need to recognize that though the American people will always defend themselves against all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC — we will no longer tolerate wars of choice or leaders who choose them. If we don’t stand up soon, we’ll be no better than Congress.

You are an idiot. First you say to "dump" the congress and allude to the "dumping" of the president. Then you call on the same people who you want to "dump"
You [the collective all of you] cannot, no matter how hard you try. The government of the U.S. is a great and powerful insttution, with many, many resources. Many more than the citizenry. The inertia favors them and the collective all powerful "Corporate America" [as is the term in vogue].
And I might add, the "corp America" is you — You are part of it. There is no distinction between the two of you.
What is again missing from your thinking [the collective as weel as individual thinking] is that there is a hatred of anything Arab/Muslim in the White American citizenry. And you will never, ever be able to dislodge this. As a result of this deeply ingrained, viseral hatred the White American citizenry easily believes and justifies all of the grab-bag of lies that have been presented over the years of this war and previous wars against Iraq.
It’s as though, the WHite American citizen knows what the truth is but chooses the lies to cleanse the individual [and collective] thought. That by not talking about the truth and believing in the ies, they think that they are leading a good and moral life and will thus not be punished in the afterlife.
If you could have heard my priest in church last Sunday — how good he made feel those in the pews by calling on killing Muslims!!!

I agree whole heartedly with the nice work Sasha. You are not an "idiot" but I believe the correct word would be a loving person that is up to your eyeballs in lies and deception and would like to move on beyond that. I think the term Dump Bush and the Congress he rode in on alludes to the "institution of ignorance that has grown up around things like this regime", the same way it did with my parents in Italy with Facisim and Germany with Nazism. This old oligarchy trick is nothing new. It always comes wrapped in great orations of "bringing good to this group and that" and it always brings with it "the fear of other human beings" to drive people into taking up arms against each other for the sake of the leaches that are now the Residents of our government.
They do not represent us. They represent their paycheck masters the elitist mind controled banking class and their agendas of abstract inhumane profit that only lead to creating situations of human and earthly devaluation (like Iraq and others) to create
the needed economic conditions "to buy low" and after indebting the people throught illegal taxes, selling high to other mind controled capatilist brain washed investors who very often do not even know what they are really investing in. I know I held a securties licences and used to "sell the wretched stuff" to anybody and everybody that I could mind control into believing my lies. After a few customers got burned and I had personal dealings with that I decided that perhaps while I still had any sense of the truth and human reality I should perhaps reconsider another line of work. And I also came to a wonderful realization that perhaps human happiness and peace was more important than the number of digits in my accounts to the left of the decimal point.
DId you evern consider where you got your thinking pattern about money from and how it has affected your beliefs and your behaviors and especaiily the behaviors of those that control a large amount of investment capital and thus have a lot of personal influence in this world. What have they become and WHERE ARE THEY GOING? I can see that and so can you. Do you like it?
Some important things to know about the corporation propaganda speak words:
1. Insurgents - In reality this is the code word for the Iraqi people fighting for their own lives and to push out the occupiers
2. Democracy - In reality this is the code word for the Investment class of death dealers agenda to kill any opposions politically to
the total coropration domination of the region for the profitable use of the investors backing the war for profit schemes.
3. Support our Troops - This is a mind control campaign to turn the American mind on end to create a "guilt" response and use psychologcial manipulation techniques to make anyone questioning the war and thus using their brain seem like they are Anti-American. This is a military Psy Ops technique of black, grey and white propaganda. Check carefully in the corporate media in the context it is used. Ask yourself what feelings are they trying to make me feel using these words. Ask yourself if you believe them then what is your position on the war. This is the purpose of these manipulative phrases.
4. Al-QUeda- BInLaden-Hussein- These are the created boogie men "of the enemy" the psychologcial excuse you need to feed the masses so they will not revolt against the war. It is totally false, just as Hitlers use of the Jews was totally false as a pretext of Germany and its both American corporate and European corporate backers had german troops running around europe destoying the economic and peace time jobs to create the debt so that the corporations could indebt the countries peoples once again through taxes and reparations so that the people onces again would be financial slaves to the banking / coporation / investment class that just loves these wars becauses of the insane power and profit they derive from them.
Remember we can overcome this but first you must deprogram their brain vomit out of your psyche and take control of your own mind and listen to your own truth and intuitions again. This is the true source of freedom. The TRUTH. That is why all these regimes operate in "secret" according to strict guidlines of "national security". When you here those words think "they are lying to me so they can control my feelings and thoughts and make me do their dirty work" DO NOT BUY IT. If they won’t prove it to you in an open manner. They ARE LYING to make themselves rich and to enslave your body and your mind.
