HITLER, STALIN, BUSH .. MEN OF OUR TIME
by Brian Reade
BEFORE you lash the big bird in the bin and stick your head in the oven instead, let’s put Time magazine’s declaration of George Bush as the Man of the Year in perspective.
In 1938 the same august organ gave the accolade to Adolf Hitler. A year later this most prestigious award went to another deranged mass-murderer, called Joseph Stalin. So maybe we should applaud Time’s consistency in lowering Bush on to the same pedestal. (…)

American Mutation
When the thunderous clouds of fascists past and corporatists present finally dissipate over the vast lands of the United States, leaving in its wake a nation recovering from the violent downpours of mass lunacy, fear and collective schizophrenia that have caused a dustbowl-style drought of humanity in the nation of gluttonous undertakings, it will finally be seen, beyond the enveloping haze of post 9/11 hypnosis hindering American (…) -

6 commentsIn 1963, when asked for his thoughts about the death of President John F. Kennedy, civil rights activist Malcolm X replied that Kennedy’s assassination was simply an example of "the chickens coming home to roost."
by David R. Hoffman
Naturally, in a nation infected with terminal myopia, Malcolm X’s words generated both controversy and outrage. But more than a decade later, after hearings in the United States Congress revealed that governmental agencies, on both the local and national (…) -

’Move-On - Nothing To See Here’
How convincing is this statement:
Coroner Robert Lyons said his office had been swamped with calls. "It’s unusual in a suicide case to have two shots," he said, "but it has been done in the past, and it is in fact a distinct possibility."
This milquetoast declaration sounds like the pathetic utterance of someone who’s trying to cover his career ass, all the while crossing his fingers behind his back. Maybe - just maybe, it’s also (…) -

We will send a $500 cashier’s check to the first Diebold or Tri Ad elections systems information technology employee who provides proof they:

African-American voters deserve respect, not disenfranchisement

Since the election all the discussions which have raised the issue of Black disenfranchisement — whether in the context of Ohio this year, Florida in 2000, or generally — as a form of electoral fraud have ended up devolving into ignorance.
Waking up at my usual 4:30 AM Cali time to read DailyKos today in preparation for a long day in court made me glad that I’m a hard core Peets drinker, I’ll say that. Who knows what I’d be writing right now if I hadn’t had a cup first. (…) -
Time names Adolph Hitler, Man of the Year 1938
20 December 2004 par (Open-Publishing)
4 commentsGreatest single news event of 1938 took place on September 29, when four statesmen met at the Fuhrerhaus, in Munich, to redraw the map of Europe. The three visiting statesmen at that historic conference were Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain of Great Britain, Premier Edouard Daladier of France, and Dictator Benito Mussolini of Italy. But by all odds the dominating figure at Munich was the German host, Adolf Hitler.
Fuhrer of the German people, Commander-in-Chief of the German Army, Navy (…) -
Time names President Bush Person of the Year
20 December 2004 par (Open-Publishing)
19 commentsU.S. President George W. Bush’s bold, uncompromising leadership and his clear-cut election victory made him Time magazine’s Person of the Year for 2004, its managing editor said Sunday.
Time chose Bush "for sticking to his guns (literally and figuratively), for reshaping the rules of politics to fit his 10-gallon-hat leadership style and for persuading a majority of voters this time around that he deserved to be in the White House for another four years," Jim Kelly wrote in the magazine. HAVANA - Cuba retaliated for the U.S. diplomatic mission’s Christmas display supporting Cuban dissidents by putting up a billboard Friday emblazoned with photographs of American soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners and a huge swastika overlaid with a "Made in the U.S.A" stamp.
The billboard, erected overnight facing the U.S. Interest Section’s offices, stands on the Malecon, Havana’s famed coastal highway.
A diplomat at the mission noted the abuse of prisoners at (…) -
John Kerry trying to undermine, delegitimize and minimize the Ohio recount
18 December 2004 par (Open-Publishing)
17 commentsIn an exclusive interview with RAW STORY Friday, the Green Party’s presidential candidate David Cobb lashed out at Sen. John Kerry, saying he Democratic nominee has tried to “undermine,” “delegitimize” and “minimize” the Ohio recount.
Cobb, who ran an unsuccessful bid for president, is at the vanguard of the Ohio recount. The Green and Libertarian Parties raised tens of thousands of dollars to pay for the recount and put county observers on the ground.
Meanwhile, Cobb observed, Kerry has (…)
