George Bush stood before the nation tonight and in an attempt to repair his tarnished image, unveiled the most massive reconstruction program since - maybe the reconstruction. At the same time, the US Army Corps of Engineers in conjunction with FEMA announced 4 contracts worth $500 million each, with the option of an additional $500 million. While Bush touted local jobs and local small business incentives, the debris removal contracts have been awarded to 2 corporations in Florida, 1 in (…)

Locals, Officials Suggest Levees were Intentionally Blown
15 September 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
8 commentsCould the levees in New Orleans have been INTENTIONALLY blown out in order to provide the justification for total FEMA federal takeover?
The locals certainly seem to think so, yet, as usual, the mainstream media is barely picking up on this wave of opinion, so it is left to us once again to bring the issue into the open.
This website distances itself from claims that the levees were blown to target the lower class areas and save the richer areas. The (…) -

NEW ORLEANS, LA — (OfficialWire) — 09/15/05 — On September 2-five days after Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast - Congressman William Jefferson (shown here), who represents New Orleans and is a senior member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, asked the National Guard that night to take him on a tour of the flooded portions of his congressional district. WASHINGTON - The federal official with the power to mobilize a massive federal response to Hurricane Katrina was Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, not the former FEMA chief who was relieved of his duties and resigned earlier this week, federal documents reviewed by Knight Ridder show.
Even before the storm struck the Gulf Coast, Chertoff could (…) -
Is St. Rita’s Subject to the Rules of the Free Market?
15 September 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentIn the midst of the rising numbers of tragedies in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, there is likely to be none more gruesome than the drowning of 34 patients at St. Rita’s Nursing Home.
St. Rita’s was run by Salvador and Mable Mangano. A quick check of the Medicare “Nursing Home Compare” web site indicates that the Mangano’s ran a home with mixed reviews, a higher than average rate of restraining patients, for example, but a lower than average rate of depressed patients. The 2004 (…) -
Disaster Capitalism in New Orleans

3 commentsThe cost (or here) of cleaning up the results of Bush’s negligence in failing to deal with global warming and spending money needed for New Orleans levees on his war in Iraq may be as much as the $300 billion spent in four years to fight the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Of course, what most people would regard as a cost, the entrepreneurial politicians in the Bush White House see as yet another opportunity to transfer money from taxpayers to their personal friends. The scheme is blatantly (…)

Today I watched a bog entitled: “Who Blew It?” It was in reference to the Katrina hurricane, trying to impartially assess blame for incompetence and inattention to various persons and governmental organizations. It jogged a memory of about 10 years ago to the “big blow” of the time.
There was a dalliance between Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinski which caused arteries to pop in Republican (…) -

11 commentsDear America,
As a friend of the family I can’t sit back and watch you do this to yourself without saying something. Consider this a long distance intervention.
Your man is no good. He treats you like crap, lies to you, abuses you, bullies you, exploits you, takes your money. As a friend I want to tell you that you deserve better. You deserve a person that treats you with respect, cares about your welfare, and your children’s welfare, but that’s not George and it never will be.
Do you (…) -
