    Tony Blair today came under fierce attack from a close friend of Robin Cook for not planning to attend the funeral of the former Foreign Secretary.
    Channel 4 racing pundit John McCririck accused the Prime Minister of snubbing the family and the memory of Mr Cook.
    Mr McCririck, a friend of Mr Cook for 20 years, will be among those speaking at the funeral service, which is expected to take place on Friday at Edinburgh’s St Giles Cathedral.

    Back in the 60s you could say two things about Navy and Air Force veteran Dick Underhill: he liked to do the work that nobody else wanted to do, and he was a Goldwater Republican. Today as Underhill shuttles in and out of Crawford, Texas, running supplies and tending to lists of things to do in support of Cindy Sheehan, you could still say he likes to do the work that nobody else wants to do, but you couldn’t call him a Goldwater Republican anymore.

    "That lying bastard, George Bush, is taking a five-week vacation in time of war," Cindy Sheehan told 200 cheering members of Veterans For Peace at their annual convention in Dallas last Friday evening. She then announced she would go to Bush’s vacation home in nearby Crawford, Texas and camp out until he "tells me why my son died in Iraq. I’ve got the whole month of August off, and so does he."
