In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Mr. Barack Obama President-elect of the United States of America.
I congratulate you on having gained the majority of the votes of those who took part in the election. As you know, the chances that God gives to his subjects pass swiftly. They can be used for the perfection of humanity and to the benefit of nations or, God forbid, to the detriment of nations. (…)

The same old with Powell, Rice, and Obama, or real change with Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich?

I’m not sure when exactly I became color blind, it was years ago. I believe it occurred during my time at the University of Waterloo where I had the good fortunes of interacting with people from around the world, many of whom were from Africa. The only major difference that I noted between blacks and every other race was that when we played soccer, almost everyone that was from Africa wore gloves and extra clothing so that they could stay warm.
I mention this because there seems to be a (…) -

Over twenty-five years ago, in January of 1983 to be precise, I wrote my first newspaper article, arguing for the creation of a federal holiday honoring America’s late civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Later that same year a reluctant Ronald Reagan—over the vociferous objections of North Carolina’s rabidly racist Senator Jesse Helms, and the “nay” vote of Arizona Congressman (later to become Arizona Senator) John McCain—signed a bill into law designating (…) -

In ancient Greece, some of its celebrated playwrights, such as Aeschylus, used a device called the “Deus ex Machina,” in order to resolved a badly tangled plot. Usually, it represented some kind of divinity, whose intervention into the lives of the characters portrayed generally proved fortuitous. In the 2008 presidential election, the winner, Democratic Sen. Bararck Obama, (…) -

WE HAVE HOPE, BUT REAL CHANGE IN AMERICA REPRESENTS AN IMMENSE TASK
John Chuckman

ISLAMABAD, Nov 5: Militants and tribesmen on Wednesday urged US president-elect Barack Obama on Wednesday to break with his country’s divisive anti-terror strategy, but many feared there would be little change.
Some tribal leaders said they would give Mr Obama the benefit of the doubt for now. The Jamaatud Dawa, considered a “terrorist organisation” by the United States, said a change in direction could help heal rifts with the Muslim world.
