Governments USA

To the Editor:
We must impeach Bush/Cheney now in order to end the War for Oil in the Middle East, stop the torture and illegal detentions in Guantanamo Bay, Iraq and Afghanistan, end the illegal wire tapping of American citizens, and uphold the laws and Constitution of the United States.
There is overwhelming evidence of many impeachable offenses (see www.afterdowningstreet.org and www.impeachbush.org). The longer that Congress delays impeachment proceedings, the higher the chances are that the Bush/Cheney Administration will attack Iran, which will spread the War for Oil throughout the Middle East for decades to come. The War President is even considering the use of nuclear weapons on Iran, and the corporate masters who control the White House are power hungry enough and sick enough to do it, as empire building is more important to them than human life or the environment.

Unfortunately, the Democrats in Congress are more concerned with their November elections than they are with enforcing our laws and upholding the U.S. Constitution. A couple of weeks ago in Woods Hole, Rep. Delahunt held an Emergency Town Meeting where he told us that Bush/Cheney have committed torture, illegal wire tapping and other crimes, but he would not introduce Articles of Impeachment because that was risky to the Democratic Party. Delahunt’s oath of office to uphold the laws and Constitution is secondary to what is politically astute.
It only takes one member of Congress to file Articles of Impeachment, and then the American people can pressure their representatives across the country to sign on. Rep. Conyers has 34 co-sponsors for his impeachment inquiry, but that is not a strong enough action to inform and mobilize millions of voters. We need to make impeachment of Bush/Cheney an election issue this year, and that would help the Democrats regain control of Congress more than doing nothing.
Every day that Congress delays impeachment, our troops are being sacrificed for the oil companies and armaments corporations; innocent people in Iraq are being killed, more than 200,000 so far according to Iraqi sources; Halliburton (Cheney’s former company) is getting richer through no-bid contracts; thousands of people are being detained without lawyers or trials; use of chemical weapons (phosphorus and depleted uranium) are poisoning our troops and Iraqi children; and the world community becomes more horrified and fearful of the United States.

Our nation is becoming economically and morally bankrupted as oil companies reap record-high profits - a 400 percent increase since the invasion of Iraq. Our communities lack sufficient funding for education, wastewater management, affordable housing and renewable energy development. Almost 50 million Americans lack health care coverage as federal funds are being used to kill and maim people instead of healing them.
Impeaching Bush/Cheney is the first step to stopping the War for Oil from spreading, and bringing our troops home. Impeach Bush/Cheney now to change the course of history before those war criminals make things much, much worse for everyone. • I agree Peter, but they want, there isnt a decent human being in the whole lot of congress, or they would have already. Mat 18th take your tents and plan on staying on the capital lawn til they do. The capital lawn is there for this purpose

  • no, to impeach is no enough...to arrest them for treason is the right thing to do

  • I agree that those that started the war in Iraq should be held accountable for their actions.
But it’s the system that’s broke. The system allows global corporate interest to make polices that are always out to fatten the global elites wallets. These global elites don’t care about anything but money(GOD FORBID THESE LAZY BUMS HAD TO PHYSICALLY WORK, LIFTING UP THAT PHONE IS HARD WORK,lol) . So what if many die, starve or live in mud huts they don’t care. Then you have the nation lobbies that have their own agendas, need I say more. Really who is fit to rule that is already in DC?
Where my Texas girl when I need her?

  • Peter White is an Independent candidate for Congress in Massachusetts’ 10th District. Peter White wants the Republican-dominated House of Representatives to impeach Bush and Cheney now! What is wrong with this picture? Peter, can you wait until the day after the November elections when, hopefully, the Dems regain a majority in the House - perhaps with you as a new member - and then call for the impeachments of Bush and Cheney? Thanks. It helps to have a realistic approach to the political process.

    • Did you read the article?

We need to stop Bush from attacking Iran.

There is overwhelming evidence he has violated our constitution and must be impeached immediately if we are to uphold our constitution, or do you feel as Bush does that it is ’just a piece of paper’?

The democrats cannot even stand up to obvious election fraud...even when the whole nation(sans Fox viewers,John Kerry and the ’backwash’) know that the election was stolen!

Here are the stats by network listed as first choice by respondent and whether the respondent thought the election was stolen or legitimate.
      new zogby poll
      Network Stolen Legitimate
      ABC 56% 32%
      CBS 64% 31%
      CNN 70% 24%
      FOX .5% 99%
      MSNBC 65% 24%
      NBC 49% 43%
      Other 56% 28%

The only way the democrats are going to regain a majority is by standing up and speaking the truth about diebold and Bushco’s impeachable offenses, not backing down from them. The American people are way ahead of these fools in DC. These Congresspeople, Democrats and Republicans look like idiots living in their little bubble and the meme about backing down that you are trying to spread around the net is not going to work. The people DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY NOW!

      IMPEACHMENT NOW!

    • Have you ever read the U.S. Constitution? Section 2 provides that the House of Representatives has the power of impeachment, which is like an indictment. A simple majority is required to bring a bill of impeachment against the president. Since the Republicans have a majority of 231 members in the House and the Democrats only have 201 member ( there’s also one Independent and two vacancies) how will you get your bill of impeachment? Do you think that Republicans are going to help the Democrats impeach Bush? If you think so, I have some prime Florida swamp land you might want to buy - real cheap.

And, let’s suppose that this fantasy thinking actually becomes a reality. Then, according to Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution, the Senate is empowered to try the president. A Two-thirds vote is required to find the president guilty of the charges drawn up by the House. There are currently 55 Republicans and 45 Democrats in the Senate. Where are the Democrats going to get the two-thirds votes needed to find Bush guilty. Do you think the Republicans will suddenly turn on Bush and help the Democrats find him guilty? If you do, you have absolutely no grasp of how partisan politics works.

Further, the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court - Justice Roberts, Bush’s own boy - presides over the trial in the Senate. Now there’s a fair and objective jurist for you.

My advice to you is to take a reality pill and wait, and hope, that the Democrats take back the House in November. Taking back the Senate, on the other hand, is a long, long shot. But, at least with a Democrat majority in the House, you just might get your impeachment. There isn’t going to be any impeachment NOW, so stop whining and get a grip on how the U.S. Congress actually works.

    • It did not say that a congressperson had to vote party line. Each individual has the opportunity to vote their conscience and that is exactly what we need to see before the next ’election’.

Many Repbulicans and more Democrats would sign on if articles of impeachment were introduced over illegal wiretapping.

As it is Conyers is only asking for an investigation over Iraq. The wiretapping is illegal and Bush has admitted it. We do not need an investigation. WE need someone to introduce articles of impeachment and the American people can take it from there.

    • You guys are just bad LOSERS. I agree with you on one thing. Bush should SLAM SHUT the border with GUYS WITH GUNS. National Guard for shure.

    • And you are just a bag of shit......

    • At least I HAVE A BAG!!!

    • 100% RIGHT ON!!
Whoever is waiting for November Elections in hopes of changing anything obviously forgets the major factor behind ALL the present problems in this country...BOTH OF THE LAST 2 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS WERE ILLEGITIMATE, as is W.! There was more then enough evidence to prove the elections were "rigged" and whenever anyone calls W President that in itself is aggravating, as he was NEVER elected!
Until the voting machines are changed/monitored, all election results in this country will represent the Will of the Corporations...not the people!
