Impeaching George W. Bush

Friday, September 01, 2006
Question: How can President George W. Bush be impeached?
Answer: By a simple majority vote in the U.S. House of Representatives?
Question: How soon can that vote occur?
Answer: Any time officially; but realistically right after the 2006 election as soon as the newly elected representatives are sworn in on January 3, 2007.
Question: What needs to happen for impeachment to occur?
Answer: The Democrats need to win a majority of the seats in the House of Representatives who will then vote for impeachment. Alternatively, an impeachment vote is also possible with any combination of representatives that constitute a majority, including Libertarians, who are willing to take action and are willing to vote for impeachment.
Question: Can other federal officials be impeached?
Answer: Yes.
Question: How are those who are impeached put on trial?
Answer: They are tried in the U.S. Senate. However, since Republications may still control the Senate after the 2006 election, no trial may actually occur. In that case, impeachment would have to suffice. However, criminal charges can still be filed by a special prosecutor after indictment by a federal grand jury.
Impeachment happened to President Bill Clinton and now it should happen to President Bush. Perhaps impeaching presidents should become an American pastime - a tradition at least for those who commit high crimes and misdemeanors. It is a statement and a warning by both the Congress and the American People that if a U.S. President commits high crimes and misdemeanors, then he will be punished for those actions.
Nothing precludes filing criminal charges for those involved in the murder and conspiracy of Americans and foreign nationals on 9/11 by the U.S. government. And willful impeding of an investigation into 9/11 events by the U.S. government is yet another charge. But I suppose that if conviction for murder and conspiracy are at stake, why worry about another charge like impeding an investigation.
The American People must demand the appointment of a Special Prosecutor to investigate and bring charges to those Americans both in government and without who were involved in planning and carrying out the crimes that occurred on 9/11!
That way the legacy of George W. Bush will be complete.
