Home > Joe Lieberman’s "MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR" of the NEW IRAQ
"You can’t handle the truth!".....Jack Nicholson, from ’A Few Good Men"
Last week, in a TV interview, Senator Joe Lieberman (Republicrat),told of the new Iraq, and that General Abbazabba related how he regularly ventured out into the heart of Baghdad in an "UNarmored" Humvee. What follows is an eyewitness account from a FOX TV "embedded journalist", who recently accompanied General Abbazabba.
As we leave the magnificent Green Zone and head South on Al Abib Ave, the first sight meeting our eyes is a small luxurious cafe, with sidewalk seating. All appears perfectly normal. Look! there are coalition forces seated in front, sipping tea with their Shia friends.
As we move down the street we can see that garbage has been neatly piled by skilled Iraqi workers, and I’m told it will soon be picked up (alternate Thursdays sounds good!). There has been a remarkable and dynamic change since the US liberation; most occupants of greater Baghdad now enjoy a full 3 hours of electricity every day, and the sewage is cleaned once a week from the clogged lines...whether it’s needed or not. Also, fresh potable water which had been in short supply is now for sale by Achmed Rhalabi in his water store for only a few drachmas..when he’s got it.
The Bush surge is in full swing now, and one can immediately sense the results by the expressions of the locals, as they breathe sighs of relief. Only a few of their sons and daughters have been tortured, raped or killed in the past week. A drop of 5% by any standards. This is the GOOD NEWS, friends!..the stories the MSM Liberal media is afraid to disseminate.
There are still hot spots in this city of 5 million, and some black marketers still try to eak out a living peddling their weapons an drugs, but the coalition forces have put a real dent (perhaps as high as 3%) in their wiley trade!
This week, the last of March, saw a paltry 150 attacks throughout the city, most of them costing but a handful of lives,as most citizens survive with only minor maiming from I.E.D. and "friendly fire" from US troops. Reports of bombings of civilians in other parts of Iraq are largely exaggerated, according to General Abbazabba.
John McCain visited Baghdad last week and returned to tell his colleagues in the Congress that we’ve "turned the corner" and that insurgents are "bound to lose sooner or later if we just stay the course"
Wise words from a man who ought to know.
George W. Bush, it turns out, was right all the time. He knows we’ll prevail in Iraq if we just hang in there.
It’s the American way.
