Of extreme interest are these statements:

"The recently released documents, however, indicate that the FBI was investigating a broader conspiracy months after insisting that McVeigh and Nichols were the only suspects . . .[but later] The FBI continues to deny that there was a larger plot..."

Why would the FBI want to deny what they had been investigating?

One explanation which immediately occurs to me is that it was another bungled sting operation and the FBI wanted to conceal its failure from the public. JD Cash, a reporter for the McCurtain County Gazette, had an article last year in which he claimed that confidential informants at the Department of Justice told him it was a bungled sting.

Who was Timothy McVeigh? Here is my suspicion.

He was a double agent. He had tricked the FBI into thinking that he was infiltrating the neo-Nazis for them. He was in reality working with the neo-Nazis and giving false information to the FBI.

The FBI fools let the plot go forward, thinking they would arrest the conspirators at the last minute, when the bombers had the truck, bomb-making materials, and so forth. Then they would take their bows and say "look what great heroes we are."

McVeigh misled them about the timing and surprised them — just like I suspect the 9/11 hijackers surprised David Boren and protege George Tenet, also attempting a sting operation, with suicide crashes. As demonstrated by the CIA’s daily briefing of August 6, 2001, Tenet expected that any hijacked aircraft would be landed for negotiation over hostages and demands. This document was released to the 9/11 Commission in April 2004.
