Last weekend, Karl Rove said that I was a clown and the anti-war movement was "non-existent." I wonder if the hundreds of thousands of people who showed up today to protest this war and George’s failed policies know that they don’t exist. It is also so incredible to me that Karl thinks that he can wish us away by saying we aren’t real. Well, Karl and Co., we are real, we do exist and we are not going away until this illegal and immoral occupation of Iraq is over and you (…)

Redeeming the Olympic Martyrs of 1968

1968. There was never a year when the worlds of sports and politics collided so breathlessly, without mercy or respite. It was the year Muhammad Ali, stripped of his heavyweight title for resisting the draft, spoke on 200 college campuses and asked the question, “Can they take my title without me being whupped?” It was the year Bill Russell’s Boston Celtics became champions once again, yet the player-coach saw his house vandalized by bigots. This led Russell to call the city (…) -

Thousands of protesters against the war in Iraq rallied today in Washington and other U.S. and European cities to demand the return of U.S. troops in what organizers hope will be the largest gathering since the war began more than two years ago.
Protest organizers estimated a crowd of about 200,000 rallied at the Ellipse, then marched around the White House and along Pennsylvania Avenue. Police downgraded the count to about 150,000. The crowd (…) -
I love the smell of Patriotic Dissent in the afternoon!

Ahhhh, I love the smell of Patriotic Dissent in the afternoon!
As we stand here on the grounds of a monument that is dedicated to the Father of our Country, George Washington, we are reminded that he was well known for the apocryphal stories of never being able to tell a lie. I find it so ironic that there is another man here named George who stays in this town between vacations and he seems to never be able to tell the truth. (…) -
Opponents of the war in Iraq are marching by the tens of thousands Saturday
24 September 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
WASHINGTON - Opponents of the war in Iraq are marching by the tens of thousands Saturday in a clamorous day of protest, song and remembrance of the dead, some showing surprisingly diverse political views even as they spoke with one loud voice in wanting U.S. troops home.
The surging crowd, shouting “Bush out now” and “Peace now,” marched in front of the White House and then toward the Washington Monument in an 11-hour marathon of dissent.
They were young people with green hair, nuns (…) -
A Movement Gathers Power on the Sorrow Plateau

Why We Must Resolve that a Better Faith is Possible
by Greg Moses
The movement for peace and justice in the USA has been transformed during the past two months. But what is the nature of the change, and how will it help to move us forward? The short answer, I think, is that we have been enriched by sorrow; we gather upon a sorrow plateau. Because of this place we have come to, we have new opportunities to broaden the scope of our power to sustain lasting change for freedom.
Sorrow is (…) -

Brothers and sisters for peace, I had thought my years of political and anti-war activism were over. I am quite old now and dying of cancer, but events of the recent past require I at least try to offer some useful advice on how to achieve the glorious goals of those opposed to war and militarism. The cruel grasping hand of capitalism has never before been so effectively poised to place (…) -
The Reason The Hurricanes Will Intensify The Anti-War Effort:

The Reason The Hurricanes Will Intensify The Anti-War Effort:
They say Katrina & Rita are going to detract attention from the effort to end the war. I say Bullshit. They are going to cost so damn much money that they are going to force the Bushwackers to BRING THEM HOME to deal with it financially and physically. There are too many links between the subjects. 1. The war in iraq is about oil. Even Bushwack himself (…) -
Cindy Sheehan Takes on the Democrats, Hillary Clinton

9 commentsCindy Sheehan Takes on the Democrats, Hillary Clinton The anti-war activist has plenty to say-and it’s not all about Bush
by Kristen Lombardi Cindy Sheehan, the rising star of the anti-war movement, remembers when people used to think of her as one of those crazy activists, speaking out for a cause, inconveniencing all who stumbled onto her path. She remembers, from her days camped outside President Bush’s ranch in Texas, how some drivers would shout out at her, “Get a job!”
Her (…) -
ANTIWAR MOVEMENT : A reawakening begins in Crawford
21 September 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
3 commentsCINDY SHEEHAN’S decision to camp outside Bush’s ranch until he agrees to meet with her has brought new energy and focus to what had been a fairly invisible antiwar movement. As the Washington Post reported, “Sheehan’s case has echoed as her grievances merged with what polls show is growing dissatisfaction with the war.”
The timing of her vigil couldn’t have been better chosen.
As the resistance continues unchecked in Iraq, and we approach another false turning point-this time, a new (…)
