Caracas metropolitan police officers say they were ordered to fire at Chavista demonstrators on the day of the coup against President Chavez, on April 11, 2002 at Puente Llaguno. The four officers who testified before the Fourth Court of Aragua coincided in their accusations against the ex-directors of the metropolitan police, Henry Vivas and Lázaro Forero.

Police and community leaders were holding talks following a riot by residents angered over a death in custody on Palm Island, off the north Queensland coast.

4 commentsA riot has broken out in the Indigenous community on North Queensland’s Palm Island, after the release of an autopsy conducted on a man who died in police custody.
Authorities are trying to restore law and order on the island, and armed police are being sent from Townsville.
Up to 300 islanders have stormed the police station, setting fire to it with a petrol bomb. They also destroyed the police residence.

SANTIAGO, Chile (CNN) — Plans for a state dinner for President Bush at Chile’s presidential palace were scratched Sunday after the United States insisted on security measures that Chile called unacceptable.
The change came a day after Chilean security guards temporarily blocked one of Bush’s Secret Service agents from entering an official dinner.

5 commentsAround 120 protesters were arrested here Wednesday after they crashed with police in a rally against globalization and US President George W. Bush, who will arrive here for Saturday’s economic leaders meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
