Home > Rove scandal merits scrutiny
Governments Secret Services USA
I’d like to request that you as editor of the Rutland Herald and your staff keep your eye on the ball in the next weeks as the Karl Rove scandal continues to unfold. This is, in my opinion, the most important story in a decade.
This story comes at a time when news organizations will be challenged to keep telling the truth. There are those who will try to distract us and dismiss this story as "old news." Your readers don’t think so. We count on you to tell the truth and consider the following.
We know that Karl Rove revealed the identity of an undercover CIA agent to reporters Matt Cooper of Time and columnist Robert Novak.
Karl Rove either broke the law or was grossly negligent with national secrets, yet he still works in the White House.
Outing an undercover CIA agent hurts our national security.
President Bush should keep his promise and fire Karl Rove.
There needs to be a full accounting to the American people about what happened in this CIA leak case.
Karl Rove and other leakers in the White House outed a CIA agent in order to discredit a critic of the Bush Iraq policy.
These actions speak louder to me than any hollow words our current administration has spoken. The American people are being lied to and getting used to it, even comfortable with it. We see over and over in our leaders actions that are in conflict with our values as Vermonters.
We deserve the truth, and are counting on the Rutland Herald to keep its obligation to the community at this critical moment in our United States of America.
