The alarming news flashed across America’s TV screens on Thursday evening: government agents had thwarted an al-Qa’ida plot, using home-grown American terrorists, to blow up the Sears Tower in Chicago in a ghastly repeat of 9/11.

When the dust had settled barely 24 hours later, a rather more modest version of events had emerged. The seven young black men arrested at a warehouse in Miami and Atlanta had never been in touch with al-Qa’ida, and had no explosives. Their "plan" to destroy America’s tallest building was little more than wishful thinking, expressed by one of them to an FBI informant purporting to be a member of Osama bin Laden’s terrorist organisation.

Even the FBI admitted as much. John Pistole, the bureau’s deputy director, described the plan on Friday as "aspirational rather than operational" and admitted that none of the seven (five US citizens and two Haitian immigrants) had ever featured on a terrorist watch list.

In essence, the entire case rests upon conversations between Narseal Baptiste, the apparent ringleader of the group, with the informant, who was posing as a member of al-Qa’ida but in fact belonged to the South Florida Terrorist Task Force.

At a meeting "on or about 16 December" according to the indictment made public as the men made their first court appearance in Miami, Mr Baptiste asked his contact to supply equipment including uniforms, machine guns, explosives, cars and $50,000 in cash for an "Islamic Army" that would carry out a mission "just as good or greater than 9/11".

In fact, the conspiracy seems to have extended little further than those words. By last month, it had all but fizzled out, amid squabbling among Mr Baptiste’s followers. Even their religious leanings are in dispute. Neighbours say they were part of a group, called Seas of David, that mixes Christian and Islamic elements.

That did not deter the US Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales, from summoning a press conference in which he denounced an attempt to "wage war against America". But the threat, even he admitted, was not immediate - and those who posed it were in fact merely a few semi-unemployed men, most of them petty criminals, from Liberty City, a poor black neighbourhood close to the centre of Miami.

If the case has any significance in America’s "war on terror", it is not as a present danger, but as a harbinger of possible future risks. Despite countless scare stories in the media, colour-coded alerts from the Department of Homeland Security and grim official warnings of al-Qa’ida sleeper cells in the country waiting to do their worst, the US has not suffered a single terrorist attack since 9/11.

Nor have the authorities unearthed much of a terror threat. The Justice Department claims that 401 people have been charged with "terrorism-related offences" since the 2001 attacks, and that 212 have been convicted. In fact only a tiny number of these were true terrorists.

The tendency - duly followed last week by Mr Gonzales - has been to hype. The precedent was famously set by his predecessor, John Ashcroft, who called a press conference during a visit to Moscow in 2002 to announce the arrest of Jose Padilla, the so-called "dirty bomber" said to be preparing an attack on Washington with a radioactive device.

Mr Padilla languished incommunicado in a navy brig without charge for over three years. He has been transferred to a civilian prison, and faces trial in Miami later this year on different, much vaguer, terrorist charges. An alleged sleeper cell was unearthed in Detroit, but those convictions were quashed in 2004 when it emerged that prosecutors had manipulated evidence. In December 2005, the trial of Sami al-Arian, accused of links with Islamic Jihad terrorists, ended in embarrassment for the government when the Florida university professor was acquitted.

The biggest successes have had little to do with US law enforcement. Richard Reid, who tried to blow up an American Airlines plane with a shoe bomb in December 2001, was stopped by alert flight attendants, while Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, the Virginia student serving a 30-year sentence for threatening to kill President George Bush, was caught by police in Saudi Arabia.

But US experts say last week’s dismantling of the Miami plot could be a pointer to things to come, when home-grown terrorists, not foreign-born Islamic radicals, pose the threat. The July 2005 attacks in London in particular are frequently cited as a model for what might happen here, when disgruntled young citizens turn against their own country. The arrest in Canada this month of 17 people allegedly planning major attacks against targets in Ontario also came as a shock south of the border.

Now, the terror alerts that had once generated heart stopping fear and “shitting down both pants legs” panic reactions produce hardly any responses at all from the intended victims and this is probably scaring the crap out of the bush regime/zionist israelis/NWO elites.
    They orchestrated 9/11 and instigated the “war on terror” afterwards believing that the levels of psychological and emotional stress could be maintained and exploited endlessly. They were mistaken and now they are resorting to pathetic and obvious deceptions in an attempt to maintain momentum.
    There can be only three possible reactions that could come from the bush/zionist/NWO regimes and those would be: a) doing the same things at the current levels until they self-destruct and disappear or b)they could instigate a far worse staged terrorist attack scenario than the original 9/11 to reignite the fear and paranoia and kick it up to a higher level, or c)they could just decide to use a natural disaster or stage a man-made state of emergency as a justification for declaring martial law and round up all “enemies of the state” and imprison/torture/terminate them. The “safest bets” would be on the last two choices occurring, that is unless there is some unseen but powerful opposition group that is taking decisive steps to deter them from achieving further success.
    There is no turning back for bush and his regime. Ever since 9/11, they have been ratcheting up the lies and propaganda and power grabs and violations of domestic and international laws and war crimes without showing any signs of moderation or reversals.
    They are like predators that have tasted blood and the thrill of the kill and cannot or will not stop themselves from seeking more to satisfy their growing hunger.
    They are incapable of analyzing what is happening to them because their rational and logical faculties have been suppressed or destroyed completely(assuming they ever possessed those faculties in the first place) and they can only see one direction for themselves-full speed ahead no matter how high the costs are to themselves or the rest of the world.
    The 7 black men who were accused of plotting and executing(in the future that is) the scheme to blow up the Sears Tower were dupes /scapegoats who had been lured by government provocateurs into adopting a state of mind receptive to committing acts of terrorism in the future or considered likely to produce acts of terrorism in the future so that the authorities could stage a raid and capture the “would-be terrorists” and strut and preen and crow in front of the public like arrogant roosters and augment their dubious credibility. It is considered of little consequence that they did not possess any bomb making materials or any connections to al qaeda because the continuity of the fear of terrorism had to be sustained.
    It is the same insidious scenario that was depicted in “The Minority Report” or George Orwell’s “1984” concerning the allege intentions and abilities of government agencies to predict and intercept terrorists and preventing acts of terrorism from happening in the future based on studying existing behavioral patterns presumed to be typical of “terrorists”. But the programs turned out to be nothing more than scams designed to foster a false belief in the minds of citizens that governments could predict and deter future terrorism in order to win their trust and support for their programs and subtly and stealthily apply social engineering to steer them towards the mindset necessary for accepting eventual total loss of freedoms and liberties.
    In most if not all cases where government law enforcement agencies arrested and beat or killed so-called “terrorists” in full view of the public, the authorities issued justifications for their extreme responses and their fatal consequences to the victims by stating to the effect that they had saved innocent lives by using lethal force. And in most cases, the public’s reaction was to applaud and support the use of violent “security measures” because the the “suspects” were “asking for it”. Human beings can be made to believe anything if they are told often enough and long enough that it is true by people who have power and authority. If the police or the FBI or the air marshals tell the american people that the person they killed was a serious threat to society that had to be blown away because there was no other choice, they tend to accept that explanation right away because uniforms and badges and guns symbolize integrity and honesty and above all else power.
    The whole point of the “war on/of terror” and the Sears Tower terror operations is to subject the american people to a constant diet of psychological torture that produces fear that leads to the mutilation and destruction of their humanity and dignity and sense of self-worth. It also conditions them to accept the governments proposition that everyone is a potential terrorist regardless of whether they are or not and must be treated accordingly.
    The most insidious prison is the kind that people can be persuaded into walking into and convinced that it is not a prison at all and stay in it because they believe it is where they want to be. It has no barred walls or barred doors to speak of and cannot be seen but it detains americans no less completely than a physical prison cell does because it imprisons their minds.
    In the diseased and warped points of view of bush and cheney and he neocons, we the people are the “terrorists” that need to be captured and imprisoned and tortured and killed. We are the enemies that they fear because we are the only possible threat to their power.
    The mythical and fabled “al qaeda” and Usama Bin Laden and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and the newest arrival Abu Ayyub Al-Masri are CIA paid operatives playing roles in a game or they are imaginary concoctions hatched in the limited imaginations of people who wish to perpetuate a “new cold war” in the absence of the old one.
    If a convenient pre-existing threat is unavailable, then one is manufactured by the bush regime to provide pretexts for starting wars and destroying nations and peoples and seizing ultimate power and control and becoming wealthy beyond their wildest dreams.
    There will be no final victory and no ending to this war because there is no real war against terrorism and no real terrorists out there to capture/kill except in the fear soaked imaginations of the people and it will go on forever if that is what bush and the neocon mafia want.
