Demos-Actions International Governments USA

Back in the late 70’s when the Ayatollah Khomeni was the "Evil Arab tyrant" of the day, burning the American flag was like the national pastime for Iran. I say this facetiously of course, but still I do recall many images from my childhood of crowds burning American flags.

There are two major differences today.

1. It’s not just Iran that’s seething with anger, it’s the whole world.
2. Clearly they don’t hate America- they just Hate Bush

They hate Bush’s illegal war.

They hate the Lies.

They hate the Torture

They hate Guantanamo.

These protests are not in Iran, but India, a key US ally.

Around the world Everyone knows - the Emperor has No Clothes.

Arundhati Roy on Bush’s Visit

Oh, and on March 2 Bush will be taken to visit Gandhi’s memorial in Rajghat. He’s by no means the only war criminal who has been invited by the Indian government to lay flowers at Rajghat. (Only recently we had the Burmese dictator General Than Shwe, no shrinking violet himself.) But when George Bush places flowers on that famous slab of highly polished stone, millions of Indians will wince. It will be as though he has poured a pint of blood on the memory of Gandhi.
We really would prefer that he didn’t.
It is not in our power stop Bush’s visit. It is in our power to protest it, and we will. The government, the police and the corporate press will do everything they can to minimise the extent of our outrage. Nothing the Happy-news Papers say can change the fact that all over India, from the biggest cities to the smallest villages, in public places and private homes, George W Bush, incumbent president of the United States of America, world nightmare incarnate, is just not welcome.

One thing is clear- it’s not America the world hates, but Bush and his band of Merry Looters. And it’s not merely hate, but a desire to see justice served.

  • Unfortunately, too much of America loves Bush, for whatever (psychotic) reasons. That is why he is still in power.

    • The latest polls, such as the new CBS poll, show that this President is the most unpopular president of the last 50 years. His latest approval rating is the lowest in poll taking history, a dismal 34%, which represent his die-hard core of rabid moron/racists. He is most certainly not loved by the majority of Americans.

    • THE ONLY REASON BUSH IS STILL IN OFFICE IS $$$$$$$$$$$. BIG PAY-OFFS & MANIPULATION OF THE MAINSTREAM PRESS KEEP A MAJORITY IN THE DARK ABOUT WHAT THIS ADMINISTRATION IS ACTUALLY UP TO. THE ELECTION PROCESS CANNOT BE TRUSTED. THERE IS NO WAY THAT THIS MAN WAS RIGHTFULLY ELECTED! IT APPEARS THAT LIES, LIES & MORE LIES JUST CONTINUE TO SPEW FORTH FROM THIS ADMINISTRATION & OTHERS ARE FINALLY PROVING IT LEFT & RIGHT. THE SCUM HAS TO RISE TO THE SURFACE BEFORE IT CAN BE NOTICED & CLEANED UP. THANKS TO THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION WE CAN NOW SEE EVEN MORE CLEARLY JUST HOW CORRUPT & GREEDY THINGS CAN GET & BE ABLE TO LEARN WHAT NOT TO DO IN FUTURE GENERATIONS! THAT IS ABOUT THE ONLY GOOD COMING OUT OF THIS PRESIDENCY.

    • i’d still worry that 34% of 300,000,000+ people in America support him. Thats a lot of troubled people.

  • How insane...... what supreme hipocracy from the US Administration... GWB is visiting India to grease palms with India’s officials , a country that has nuclear weapons but did not sign the NPT (nuclear non-proliferation treaty) India had a secret nuclear arms programme and now Bush Admin’ want to talk deals with India... new nuclear technology sold to India by America... maybe a war alliance with American against India’s neighbors and middle east region, Iran is a member of the NPT... they have a transparent nuclear programme and volunteered extra inspections over and above of what the NPT requires by the IAEA 2 years ago... and Bush Admin’ call Iran a threat to international peace and to America ???? What a joke... more lies and deception from USA.

    • american & ppl that support the war r racist and criminal!!!
60% off usa public don´t give a heck! that y he is still in power!
it´s the rest of the world that sould wake the fuck up and start taking some actions against "bush" and against the goverment of US!
Bush and the goverment of US is as guilty as Saddam is...y is Bush not in cout??
does he have more humanrights then anyother human?? does he piss in gold?
Historei will repeat it self! and then who will stop the muslims nations from demonise the west!!

  • Actually, Pam, and others who think that the world doesn’t hate America are sadly mistaken.

Most of the peoples of the world hate Americans. It is only a reflection of American’s view of the world. Americas hates them, they hate Americans.

It seems to be some kind of cliche to endlessly repeat the mantra that the peoples of the world doesn’t hate Americans, but hate the government; be it Bush or Carter or someone else. It seems to placate the hearts and minds of those who say such falsehoods.

In my travels, I met peoples of other nations that realize government represents the American peoples and their attidutes and desires. (Now, many will argue that this is not the case for this administration, but this is just another baseless argument used topically.) You can check any American administration in history and find that they have always treated other nations and peoples with contempt. Even, such open and "kind" administrations like, Kennedy or Carter.

But if you look at it truthfully, you find Kennedy had the S. Vietnamese president (our "friend") assassinated. Carter played his games in Central America. Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Truman, Eisenhower, Wilson — all of them created strife all over the world.

It is worthwhile to keep in mind that America does not really have friends but has "interests" and it feeds those desires. If humankind of other nations is killed in the process of feeding those interets, well that is just too bad. In the past, as is the case now, Americans are ignorant of the world. Ignorant of other cultures or values.

And, as it has been the case in the past, a select few see the horrific actions of America and its outcomes. As an example, the struggles of the peoples of Iraq (war, sanctions, etc) has been artifically created more than 50 years ago, when the U.S. meddled in their lives and leaderships — with similar and morbid tensions. Check the overall history and not just what is in the sanitized books of high school.

And finally, there seems to be no end in sight... Iran appears to be the next victim. Again,

  • It’s a good sign that they don’t burn the Flag. The people of the world see that the American people aren’t the bad ones. Keep the bush burning going.

  • WOW, India IS the worlds largest democracy.

Anyone daring to chant"Death to Bush" in America, like 70,000 Muslims did in India, would be arrested and looking at five years in prison!

Indians don’t like Bush? Well guess what, neither do sane Americans...good article.
